Oh it doesn't look like much, but the further you go the more the game does to mess with your head and creep you out. There wasn't any particular part that was disturbing, but the cumulative effect left my nerves so frayed by the end that I couldn't stop laughing (in that nervous way)
And THAT is a lesson on how horror really works. I hope your taking notes.

DAMN YOU. IT'S DARK ALL THE WAY UP TO MY ROOM.
Was that game really that bad? I played like the first 3 levels of it and it was a little creepy but nothing too scary or disturbing. Should I keep going?
Yes, you should. Wait until the "wave of blood" level.

Resident evil freaked me out when I was in my pre-teens (yes, I know, I shouldn't have been playing it in my pre-teens.)

The hannibal lecture in Metal Gear Solid 2 got to me a bit as well. I think they're meant to make the player feel a little uncomfortable at times, but still...

Fable 2 was the last to really strike a chord, only because of the ending for my character. I chose the sacrifice, and my family had divorced me. My character had no one left at the end of his quest. No family, no loved ones, not even a pet, and to add salt, his mentor effectively abandoned him, with his friends scattering to different corners of the world. Leaving him to live alone in the castle his sister died in, surrounded with wealth and distant admirers and yet completely alone. In defeating Lucien he suffered his arch-enemies fate. This had a rather disquieting effect on me.

Not disturbed.

I've been scared by games. Being disturbed for me though is when something you've seen/experienced lingers with you for a while and makes you feel uncomfortable (mentally)

I find it hard to be disturbed by a game because you just think for 1 second and realise it's nothing but a bunch of 1's and 0's translating into something on the screen.

If you know what this means, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

THIS.

The first time I played that game and saw that, my mouth fell open and I gave myself a little shake going, "What the hell?!"

They're being translated into the thing into which they were meant to be translated, because they were very carefully set up that way by a group of individuals of the same species as you. Is that any more disturbing? Deep down, you're really just like them.

nothing has ever truely disturbed me....

but one kind of eerie thing that sticks out in my mind is that scene in fable 2.... you open one of the demon doors and you walk into this wonderland, snow is everywhere and you see a beautiful little home from the doorway you see how warm and friendly the house is inside...

once you step through the door, however, you hear an ear piercing scream and the warmth and hospitality dissappears leaving nothing but the dark, crisp remains of a home that has been burnt down, with the posed corpses of the previous owners scattered around...

i didn't see it coming... lol

The last time I was disturbed by a game was Mother 3, specifically on TaneTane Island.

That whole sequence was messed up: Mailboxes containing 6,000 rat corpses, Wess suggesting that Duster drag Kumatora off into the woods to...do stuff, Flint threatening to beat Lucas, and every enemy disguised as an eerie smile had me freaked out the entire time.

Without a doubt the beginning of Silent Hill 3.
It had been a few weeks since I'd wimped my way through Silent Hill 2, and I genuinly thought it was going to be the same cup of tea. (I.E. something not too horrible, but not too dull either.)
Little did I know they had Bunny men in store for me... Bunny men with a thirst for blood. O.O
Seeing those along with the weird monster dogs and... Uh, ass-monsters, just disturbed me so badly.

I've never really been scared by a game, although I am a little unnerved by enemies you can't kill. Regenerators in RE4 in particular made me a little reluctant to move on.

We-e-e-ll, I have to say the Milla's nightmares room from Psychonauts.

Also, when I knocked on the last door in the bathroom labyrinth in Mother 3 I must admit I jumped a little. Really didn't expect that to happen. (Wonder how many have played Mother 3 here).

"Tea party" scene in American McGee's Alice dsiturbed me a lot when I played the game for the first time.

Also, Shalebridge cradle level in Thief 3. I didn't have patience to play even past half of the game so I watched it on Youtube. That's a level I would never EVER try to play when alone or in a dark room.
I did, and I had nightmares for a week.

The whole 'NANO-MACHINES ARE BEHIND EVERYTHING' crap in MGS4. Christ, way to screw up a franchise mythos. HONESTLY, Seeing Maria all rotten and decayed in the jailcell in Silent Hill 2.

Someone Else who's played Eversion? I was gonna mention it as well, but i could not for the life of me remember the name.

It certainly does have that grating effect on the mind, dosn't it?

I've never played the first Silent Hill, however I did see a trailer for it once when I was 8. Every moment of that trailer sent me into a frenzy of fearful gasps, cringes and an unflinchable gaze, mezmerised by the terror on screen. It was horrifying. Years later I get the nerve to pick up Silent Hill 2 and... well, what a game lol

The worst part was the washing machine, do you remember the washing machine?
Dude, I friggin' dreaded to look inside the washing machine, I actually felt real, palpable dread at that point! Having just read the newspaper clipping, and watching the washing machine porthole open, I actually groaned out loud, and it wasn't because I was expecting it or because I felt it was cheesy. I was friggin' horrified! :p Imagine how I felt when I eventually went ahead and looked inside :p

Some of the stuff I've seen in the God of War 3 trailers has bothered me. I'll go to the wall to defend free speech, but man...
i know what you mean, when Kratos is ripping pelos's head off and you can see the skin ripping, God of War 3 is approaching a sickening level of gore, that zipper tech stuff they are doing so you can disembowel your enemies is really approaching a level of gore beyond what even movies show
