Do you report people a lot? How many times? What were your reasons for it?

I've been here a while now, and I've seen some people get reported for things that seemed innocuous, or for personal disputes. I've also seen alot of people get reported who deserved it, but sometimes it boils down to just a difference of opinions. Now, usually the mods just put them on probation, and I know the mods are the reason why the Escapist isn't a festering bog of retardation like the rest of the net. I just think some people are too happy with the report button, sometimes because they want to beat the other guy to it in an argument turned personal. So share your reasons and stories about reporting people.

Personally I only report the spambots.

Also, reporting me for making the thread isn't being ironic, it's being a dick.

I only press the magical red button when it is definitely called upon; I have once just given up on the report button and PMed a mod to ban an obvious troll though.

I only hit Report when its necessary.

The only time I ever reported was during the Halo Troll saga.

Quite a few times. Spam bots, abusive replies, low content answers, adverts, looked at me the wrong way (I kid). It's a powerful function, and the mods don't pick up on everything.

I wonder if I've ever been reported?

I've reported one person, who had 1 post, quoted the entire opening post, added "I agree", and then posted an utterly unrelated link to an illegal download of a current movie/ virus hub.

I've never reported a real poster, although I've been tempted.

Um...not too often. I never report people who call me names etc. I find that rather amusing and just part of how things go. I have reported blatant racism on here. Other than that...i live by the code of "im a big boy and i can take it...reporting is for sissys". Thats me though.

User was put on probation for: The (un)official Flash Escapist Flash Awards! (presented by Calumon) PLANNING PHASE!. (3 days)
The irony and hypocrisy. It burns.

OT: Sure, mostly on those X Vs. X Escapist Challenge things though, ones that are just "Valve/Bioware Sucks" or something.

I've never on any forum felt the neccessity to report anyone. The obvious trolls tend to be ... obvious ... and the less offenisve stuff I will just ignore for the most part. I do wish these forums had a function to ignore users, though.

I've done it twice once on a troll, once on accident I was clicked off the screen of my solitaire game and reported someone.

*barely restrained laughter* sorry I can't say that with a straight face...

Anyway, I've been known to use the Report button if I've felt it was necessary; although I've begun to wonder if it actually does anything.

Trolls, racists, homophobes and advertisers (especially ones from Ansblog) are what I report.

I ignore personal insults, because they aren't directed at me, and if they were I'd still ignore them, unless they were trollish, racist, homophobic or advertising something of course.

Often. Not like I'm Report-happy, but if I see a post that needs reporting, I report it. That's what the report feature is FOR.

I report when it seems fit, so yes.

The rules do state to Report anything that we believe Violates the Rules And is worthy of Moderator Action/Intervention/Other.

But I ask you all to Remember that pressing Report is pretty much just like adding the Post to a list of sorts that contains possible Violations and is also basically sending a Request for a Mod to observe the Post, it does not initiate Punishment when pressed a certain amount of times, and a person will not get punished for a Post that isn't Mod worthy no matter how many times it's Pressed.

... I think.

Yeah, but only when they're breaking the rules. Luckily people don't do that too often around here... probably because they always get reported and banned.

Never here (personally, I think reporting is the bane of any proper message board when used improperly), but I did report a couple of times back when I posted on IMDb. Even then, it was because someone posted a long, elaborate story about dismembering children. I am loath to do so, generally, and think ignore ought to be used first.

I'll press the Report button if I think someone's being offensive or trolling, or flaming. Also, I PM mods for anything serious. To be honest though, I also PM mods every time anyone starts a Twilight, Halo or Versus thread, simply because those are the three types of thread that almost always end in flamewars and people generally being complete and utter retards. So I PM mods to try and get such threads locked early, or at least watched carefully, so as to nip any flaming in the bud.

But yeah, I use the Report button quite often if I feel I have to...
