The complete disorganization of guilds didn't spur me on to stay once I'd hit the level cap of Cataclysm. I didn't like cataclysm at all, I found it too punishing, for too little reward. It just made me crave the time where I'd get off WoW and go outside. A really sad thing...

I don't intend to go back to WoW, I have many level 80's and a single 85. That's all the motivation I have with it tbh...

I was thinking of playing EVE, but I don't know... I might look at some lets plays first.

Stopped playing properly 2 years ago, but I have tried to start again twice since then but it's never re-ignited for me.
I used to enjoy it but I have realised it was just because of a friend.
Grinding was only 'fun' when I was playing with my friend. Dungeons - it didn't matter if we got curbstomped, or if we walked away with so much loot we ran out of bag spaces - because I was having a laugh with my mate. Zul Fa'rak (or whatever, haven't done it for 2 years) was my favourite to go through,
But mate left - suddenly grinding is a real pain. Dungeons - the teams were filled with greedy "I need that warlock only stuff you need, even though I'm a warrior!" twats, or morons trying to become the next Leroy Jenkins.

Why did I leave? I lost the social aspect. And it's ridiculously time-consuming. And the money.

I played from Day 1 on WoW up until Cata. Bought it and played it for a month and dropped that game like it never mattered to me. And I was pretty hardcore obsessed with that game, I'd freak out if I missed a day of playing.

My reason for leaving was that I had pretty much memorized that game, I could tell you npc names and how to do a quest and where anything was on the map instantly from memory. Then Cata came and blew everything up and I just didn't want to learn it all again. I felt like all my hard work had been ripped away from me. This may sound stupid but, before Cata, I felt like that was my world. Now I didn't know where I was or who I wanted my character to be.

So I quit, uninstalled it, Blizz has offered lots of free game time, but I just scoff and delete the emails.

I played WoW just long enough to get my weak-ass Undead Warrior (Oh Yes) to the main settlement for the Undead. I got to level 20 or so, then quit and never returned. I hadn't had any fun anywhere between level 1 and level 20, I found the controls to be both boring and counter-intuitive, and I'll be damned before I pay 15 dollars a month for the entire duration of my playtime in that game.

That said, Star Wars: The Old Republic is coming out soon and it's about to make me look like a massive hypocrite.

I haven't left WOW because I've never started WOW. One of my better decisions in life.

But I have started Magic the Gathering last year...the jury is still out on that one.

Crack is crack....whether it's made of paper or of 0s and 1s.

I've tried several character builds but haven't been able to focus long enough for any of them to hit level 30. I tried the extended trail but once I actually shelled out for the battle chest I only really managed to go forward a few more levels before I got bored and went back to my console gaming.

Played, found it boring and the community is over moderated. Seriously, bans for guild bank theft/trade scams that use nothing more than the games own mechanics? Jeez, eve online and some other mmo's would make the blizzard community mods weep upon hearing a trade scam described as "Market pvp".

The community as a whole seems to have a massive entitlement complex and player skill seems to take a back seat to almighty "EPIC GEAR SCORE" when groups are being sought.

Also I like pvp, and it felt secondary their.

Oh and finally, the races dont have any real differences (apart from cosmetic and "Lol I iz a cow) and the class balance seems to be.....well a little off.

i found that while i was playin id see a whole lot of content & gameplay that i wasnt interacting with because no one else was using it. you spent half your playtime lvling and not enough time /w your friends, so id always be wishing i was doing something else. also class balance really got to me, dunno why :s

i played for a little while but left because it didn't seem to have a story arc, grinding sucked, and going to any other place took forever. i know that last one isn't a big deal, but after playing GW for a few years with fast travel, it kinda weighed on me.

I probably came back and left again after every expansion. I never had anybody to do any of the big dungeons with. I dont really like partying up with people I dont know and all my friends never gave the game as much dedication as I did. Thats why I'm always a supporter of having some kind of way to play a MMO solo, like Guild Wars.

I've never been afraid to go on breaks whenever I felt like the game wasn't satisfying. So despite buying it all the way back in 2005, I think I "only" have about 2 years worth of active subscriptions. My breaks are getting increasingly longer though, and I think I've reached the point where I'm not sure if I'll ever go back.

The main problem I have with WoW in its current state is the lore. This might sound strange to most but I actually got into WoW originally because I really liked the setting in the RTS games. In Cataclysm, I think it shows that the remaining plot lines from Warcraft III have dried out and so far they have failed to keep me interested in the story they are trying to tell. I'm also sick to death of Old Gods, it has become too convenient to blame everything that goes wrong on them. I also find Deathwing to be a boring villain so far, even as a long-time lore fan he strikes me as being just "that dragon boss" with no characterisation beyond the fact that he's crazy. As for the areas, some of them are more concerned about making pop culture references every other minute than actually trying to fit in the setting (see Uldum).

And thanks to the new unlimited trial, if I ever get nostalgic I should be able to get my fit by leveling a character to 20. So at this point in time, I think it would take something quite significant to get me to subscribe again. It does make me sad somewhat because I honestly have a lot of great memories from this game and I often wish I could erase all of it from my memory and start from scratch again.

Tired of the obligations inherent in regular raiding, and too many friends had quit for alts or 5 mans to be much fun.

I started half a year before TBC came out, had a good time in TBC, maybe a bit too good time. WoW became sort of obsession (grades didn't suffer, but everything else did).
First time I quit because I was moving back to Finland from Germany and I thought I'd be busy with a lot of other stuff (January 2010). And also breaking my keyboard kind of woke me up from the wow-trance.

After almost a year, I bought Cataclysm and 2 months of game time. I only played one month. Then I bought 3 months game time to make it through the boring summer, and now I'm quitting again because of school.

(also everywhere I went in game was basically empty( even infront of the bank and AH in Ironforge which is normally packed)).
Well if you're talking about recently, the new "hangout" is Stormwind for the Alliance and Orgrimmar for the Horde. The cities were purposefully redesigned to be the new hubs, so Ironforge will be a bit emptier now. I remember in the olden days when you couldn't set foot in there without horrendous lag because it was the only auction house for the Alliance. That hasn't been the case for some time, though.

As for myself, I left WoW for financial reasons. It might seem silly to some, but I need that $15 a month to go elsewhere until things pick up. Besides, there are other free altneratives to WoW that I can use to get my gaming fix.

I still love the game, though, and when I heard they extended the free trial, I thought long and hard about using it to experience the game again. But in all truth, I'd rather not get hooked on WoW while I'm still in need of steady income.

Too many kids with too little skill, resulting in the game getting shifted onto be more about the numbers than the skill.

I curse the creators of GearScore... May your butt itch and your arms be too short.

Don't get me wrong i find World of Warcraft a great and interesting game with lots of things to do...

But id say the beggining is just to slow... too many 'fetch' quests... i found myself going to the same places over and over again doing these annoying fetch quests.

I found the smithing, socket, gem system a little unfriendly to new-begginers, and even if i tried to ask others how to do certain things, i would be surrounded with rage from deuchebags saying "Ugh i hate newbies, they need to learn how to play the game by themselfs", wich i find arrogant considering i bet these people had difficulties in the beggining and asked for help has well...

Another thing is that i love to explore... but you need to walk a lot... like there is no end and that you can never reach you're destination... mounts balanced things out, wich i LOVED.... till flying mounts came... i love flying mounts, but they shouldn't be usable on azeroth... just sayin...

People are really arrogant and assholish with you, if you're not a women... ive seen real deuchebags turning pussycats within the presence of a girl (man playing has a women character basicly, but let's keep that a secret).

Spammers, screamers/ragers and gold farmers.... basicly this: "GIMME ME GOLD PLZ! GIMME GOLD PLZ!!!!"... i belive you understand the rest.

And the last reason i stopped playing WoW is even though i loved teh diversity of races (Loved trolls, taurens, a little of draenei and loved dwarfs.... with the new game i loved goblins and the werewolfs), i find that it costs too much money, in accordance of time i spent playing.... for each month i would play like a week... like 1 or 2 hours each day of 1 week or 1 week and a half... so i stopped playing...

So i started playing Guild wars... can play when i want, withouth worrying with payment, and im so stoked with gw2 :3 !!!!

I really liked it, but I was starting to get really addicted to it and I didn't have enough time to play it and keep up with my college work. If I had enough free time, I'd probably get back into it again.

But when I left, I wanted to do it in style. So I hosted my own gameshow, and gave away all my money as prizes! It got fairly popular too!

I played until 70/80/85 stopped each time as is now. I enjoy the leveling but I get to end game content and I just can't put in the time/be confident enough to start raiding so in the end I just stop due to inactivity.
