Because Hawkeye doesn't bring much to the table when there are Gods and radioactive monsters running around.
The thing I don't get, is it's not like the Avengers are saying "Thor you sit this out Hawkeye will handle it", they bring Thor AND Hawkeye. Sometimes you need artillery, sometimes a sniper. If Thor can kill 500 aliens and Hawkeye 25, at the end of the day 525 aliens dead is better than 500 or 25.
People had the same criticism about Cap, presumably why his super-human-ness get more emphasised in Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron.

I don't know much about superheroes, but isn't there like... hundreds of superheroes? Surely they could have cast someone more "powerful" to be part of the whole avengers thing? Like spiderman or one of the x-men, I don't know. I've seen the movie and the dude... shoots arrows. That's about it. In a team where you have a god, a super soldier guy, a robot guy, a huge muscular guy, etc.
In the comics yes. Not in the films. There is a handful of genuine super-powered or equivalent individuals. Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ironman (and Warmachine), that's about it by that point in the Avengers excluding baddies. As the films and tv-shows progress this is changing, but Hawkeye has already bowed out.
Spider-man, until recently was locked out of the MCU due to movie rights and it's the same thing with the X-men. Different film universe.
As I say above. It's not like they're picking him over someone, they're grabbing everyone they have to fight an Alien invasion.
I won't talk about comic Hawkeye, but essentially he's got years of Avengers experience and his abilities are so good they cross into superhuman feats (there's a complex background reason involving celestials).

I read the title and thought this would be a discussion of the main character from M*A*S*H. Maybe something about how radically different the character was in in the book compared to the show, or whether the movie version was better than the show version.
But no, it's those dang 'Revengers' those kids are talking about these days.
Those kids have been talking dang 'Revengers' for years, in particular Hawkeye considering the comic character Hawkeye pre-dates the book that inspired the film and tv show by 4years.
