You are simplifying it.

It stops recording if you just shake it.

You have to get it into a particular motion that replicates walking.

The fastest way you could ACTUALLY cheat is by taping it to the center of a fan. But I still like that it gives me a record of my steps in a day :). No necessity to cheat. Kind of like cheating on wii fit.
Dude, I just got this thing. Took me 3 minutes to figure out how to shake it so that it records it. It says I've taken 4000 steps today. Actually, I've only taken around 1200.

Certain kinds of paint-mixing machines make a rapid up-down motion. If you got like a hundred of these devices in there you could make thousands of dollars selling 100,000 watt walkers like that.

In fact, I will!

We're nerds here, right? Surely we just strap it to our wrists and we'll be done in a couple of days.

I'm insinuating we masturbate a lot... XP

But seriously, there's obviously some way to cheat it.
Who needs a way to cheat, I think we're all ok with that.

So since reading this article, I have started wearing my Pokewalker to work... one 8 hour shift at work I rack up 14-20,000 steps. So according to this article that 7-10 miles. A day. I think that in addition to putting on my pet's collar when I'm at home, getting the routs will come pretty quickly.

Just found this, think someone here might get a laugh or two out of it:

At the very least, its getting people to get active. But what happens when one unlocks everything by walking a thousand miles? Throw the pokewalker away and bask in the glory of being able to shit all over everyone in the game?

I am under the impression that they have designed it to allow new routes to be added at a later date via WiFi mystery gifts to your cartridge and then downloading onto the device.

As it stands I've walked many more miles since getting it :). I've always wanted a pedometer and now I have one themed to my favorite video game franchise.

As for people basking in the glow of figuring out how to trick a pedometer congratulations. I can think of no more complicated a device to overcome :p.

You know what cheaty people do with pedometers?

*Picks it up*

*Shakes it for an hour*

You'll have a beefy arm at least.

I believe I saw a strategy here for cheating.
1) Wrap Walker in protective barrier. (Sock, bubblewrap, cat anything protective.)
2) Put it in the dryer for half an hour.
3) ???
4) Profit!

So I'm to take it I'm pretty much the only person in the world who's actually intending to walk with the thing?

Put it in the cargo department of an international boeing 747.

Wait a few weeks.

More watts than you'll ever need.

Y'know, I think I'll just pin it to the inside of my work shirt and work an eight-hour shift running drive-thru. Albeit, I won't get mine until the end of the week, but I have a weekend full of nothing but work coming up so that should be that taken care of.

Aside from that, has anyone thought about dancing? Surely that would rack up the watts with the movement? :)

No. Just basically everyone with enough of a life to actually walk is not busy bragging about how they tricked a pedometer on the Escapist :p.

I walk a few miles a day and I enjoy the record keeping (as well as the benefits to a game I'd be playing anyways).

Sad that on a normal day, in my own house, I walk 10x further than you do :p.

I'm not sure which of us that should alarm. If either.
