As much as the piece was nicely done in a dramatic performance way, I couldn't help but think of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Measure of a Man" and indeed, after reading through the comments here, Westworld.
I hope something like this makes those people realize that graphical improvement is about a lot more than just upping the polygon count. Animations and lighting are way more important to create believable characters and immersive ingame environments.ph0b0s123 said:And a good engine demo. Another example of the 'we don't need to improve graphics / engines' argument being shown up. That's good progress even on current hardware.
What about ME3 with this engine? Or any RPG with this engine.Manji187 said:HO-LY SHIT...the narrative potential. It's off the charts. Fuck ME3, I want Kara.
To answer simply: that is quite correct.Hammeroj said:Perhaps I employed a little bit of hyperbole there.VMK said:That would be laziness, actually. The driving force of scientifical progress.Hammeroj said:Disturbing? No, realistic. If someone said to me that the driving force behind android development was the human (mostly male) sex drive, I would believe it without a second's hesitation.VMK said:Hmm... nice engine representation, and short is good by itself.
Though, only disturbing thing I have heard is sexual function. Sex androids are not what I really want to see in the future.
Still, let's keep it real, there would be a huge market for fembots on that aspect alone.
It's my terminology then as lighting, animation etc were to me what came under the term graphics, as in what you see on screenCowabungaa said:I hope something like this makes those people realize that graphical improvement is about a lot more than just upping the polygon count. It pleases me that, as of late, more game developers seem to understand the importance of those things. Just look at Battlefield 3, Max Payne 3 and RAGE (despite that game's flaws).
This trailer is a nice addition to that list, even though it's not even a game. Though I would like to see a broader range of motions in the facial areas. Us humans can really make some crazy faces.

Yes, but games aren't exactly considered mature or emotional by the mainstream media either.silent-treatment said:Okay what the fuck are these guys doing making games when their true, and I mean this in an amazed and honest way, calling is making animated films. They could make amazing, impacting films that would change the west's opinion on adult (not porn) themed animated films. Seriously I would watch any film made by these people.
I do hope that they fix the teeth eventually though, they look kind of derpy.
In order.Zom-B said:Two things about this bug me, even if I can sort of rationalize one.
First, a modest android? I guess if she accidentally achieved sentience, I could see that, but really, a brand new intelligence with no experience of shame, modesty or any other emotions surrounding nudity shouldn't really cover it's breasts and genitals, which aren't "real" anyway. I can let that one go.
The other is... why would the android have tear ducts? Was it designed to cry? If so, then why is the designer so shocked that it shows emotions like fear? If you expect something to cry, then you'd have those emotions preprogrammed, right?
It's a nice little vignette, but storywise it's manipulative.
