As much as the piece was nicely done in a dramatic performance way, I couldn't help but think of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Measure of a Man" and indeed, after reading through the comments here, Westworld.

HO-LY SHIT...the narrative potential. It's off the charts. Fuck ME3, I want Kara.

And a good engine demo. Another example of the 'we don't need to improve graphics / engines' argument being shown up. That's good progress even on current hardware.
I hope something like this makes those people realize that graphical improvement is about a lot more than just upping the polygon count. Animations and lighting are way more important to create believable characters and immersive ingame environments.

It pleases me that, as of late, more game developers seem to understand the importance of those things. Just look at Battlefield 3, Max Payne 3 and RAGE (despite that game's flaws).

This trailer is a nice addition to that list, even though it's not even a game. Though I would like to see a broader range of motions in the facial areas. Us humans can really make some crazy faces.

What about ME3 with this engine? Or any RPG with this engine.

Graphics have never really QD's weakness though.

Gameplay, storytelling, and voice acting has.

I don't really see that changing with this tech demo.

Hmm... nice engine representation, and short is good by itself.
Though, only disturbing thing I have heard is sexual function. Sex androids are not what I really want to see in the future.
Disturbing? No, realistic. If someone said to me that the driving force behind android development was the human (mostly male) sex drive, I would believe it without a second's hesitation.
That would be laziness, actually. The driving force of scientifical progress.
Perhaps I employed a little bit of hyperbole there.

Still, let's keep it real, there would be a huge market for fembots on that aspect alone.
To answer simply: that is quite correct.

It's my terminology then as lighting, animation etc were to me what came under the term graphics, as in what you see on screen

That was beautiful.
I must be having an emotionally unstable day, because when she said she was scared, I burst into tears.

Got to admit all this fancy tech made me go
for a minute though it showed just one character in a blurry room.

However, I'm curious, if this idea got scrapped, what the hell did they went with?

The flow of the events and the capability of mimicking human emotions using the core engine is definitely impressive--but so far I only think "Wow, this would be an awesome an emotional film!" then "Wow, I can't wait to play this game!"

I'm not sure what avatar I'm meant to play as in the trailer, what the core mechanics of the game would be, or even a freaking *goal* I'm supposed to reach for in the game. It works great at tugging our heart strings and feeling connected with the android character, but I don't know if we're playing as the android (and trying to be human? Live? Be accepted as something living?) or the male voice off-camera (Work at his 9 to 5 job with no issues with the products? Solve any flaws or bugs found in products? Make sure he doesn't get fired for letting this Android go?). It's definitely a good teaser trailer, but for me I don't know if would appeal as a story for a game.

Sorry, I found the android's performance to be lacking. I couldn't tell what emotions she was having, her face didn't seem to move enough. She was saved by the voice actor, but still. I'd like some more emotion for this kind of short.
And this might sound strange coming from a straight guy, but I'd like to see them do a demo with a guy. Women are pretty and all, but men are the ones with the muscles. Just once, I'd like to see a game engine that does the muscles right.

Okay what the fuck are these guys doing making games when their true, and I mean this in an amazed and honest way, calling is making animated films. They could make amazing, impacting films that would change the west's opinion on adult (not porn) themed animated films. Seriously I would watch any film made by these people.

I do hope that they fix the teeth eventually though, they look kind of derpy.
Yes, but games aren't exactly considered mature or emotional by the mainstream media either.

Thats amazing. If this doesn't make it as a game or film someone needs to be shot for screwing up so badly.

Also, it BETTER be coming out on PC!

Two things about this bug me, even if I can sort of rationalize one.

First, a modest android? I guess if she accidentally achieved sentience, I could see that, but really, a brand new intelligence with no experience of shame, modesty or any other emotions surrounding nudity shouldn't really cover it's breasts and genitals, which aren't "real" anyway. I can let that one go.

The other is... why would the android have tear ducts? Was it designed to cry? If so, then why is the designer so shocked that it shows emotions like fear? If you expect something to cry, then you'd have those emotions preprogrammed, right?

It's a nice little vignette, but storywise it's manipulative.
In order.

The android can speak and comprehend speech, meaning she comes preloaded with information. Adding social mores such as "don't walk around with your tits out" seems like a reasonable step.

The human eye is naturally and visually wet, animators and artists often go out of their way to simulate the wetness of the eye with highlights. Without tear ducts she'd have glossy, doll-like eyes.
