I hate to be a downer but I started a thread much like this, for the exact same reason, it didn't work out so well [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.72054#745831]. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a good conversation about America, and the worlds view of us, however people here tend to hate America.

Well, not to sound offensive, but whenever someone from the US asks me where I'm from, I'll say "Buenos Aires, way south of South America", because I assume they don't know where Buenos Aires is.
Americans are always nice, sometimes TOO nice, but they always sound condescending when talking to foreigners. Some of their customs I'm alright with (Air Conditioning practically everywhere, SIGN ME UP) but others I think are rather thick-headed (the way you guys do long division, MY GOD that's unnecessarily complicated, and I think that the differences between Republican and Democrat are rather petty compared to other multi-party countries elsewhere)
I actually love Americans (except for their accents, which can sometimes border on infuriating), even if the average citizen isn't quite as educated as most of the people I know here. But I prefer uneducated to the snobbish, full-of-themselves porteños (average Buenos Aires citizen).
Just to make it clear, if I had the money, I'd drop everything and move to the US.

The US is the same as Canada except for the level of patriotism, the gun laws, and the whole invading other countries thing.

despite the fact that it is an American magazine.
the internet has no race nor nation.
but this site is still hosted in America by Americans and most of the articles are done by Americans. there for it is a bit silly to say that most of the site (most users here are Americans) hates Americans.
Hmmm, not necessarily. You have a decent point here and I agree with you in principle, but I'm from the UK and yet I hate the UK quite a lot (although that's mainly because Gordon Brown is a bit of a twat, no offence, but it's definitely true with regards to his politics...).

sure, you guys are nice enough I suppose. I don't spend much time there myself but occasionally I will go shopping there, and it's pretty much exactly the same as here...

I'd put a guess forward that the reason the US finds itself led by fools is because the voters treat them like hollywood celebrities (see videos of almost any rally, and watch the people screaming inanely at polititians for doing their jobs).

There are many smart people in the US but I really don't think they would fit in with the A-list crowd in the white house, a bunch of cowboys keen on holding up an image of great superiority over the rest of the world. Where I come from people aren't screaming and running about the streets over middle aged men, especially when they more likely than not have no idea what is best for their country.

They vote for their favorite celebrity candidate. This definately happened with Obama, but in their defense he was also the face I wished to see in the white house, so I can't complain. In fact the pull of coolness and conformity seems to cloud judgement over there like crazy.

Anyhow, that's my thoughts on US politics.

actually, it's not entirely obvious which group has the most members, technically it's the US but nobody but the employee's know whether or not the US makes up half the forum members. not only that you have to take into account how many active members are from each area, and I know most active members are not Americans. On top of all that, aren't Americans allowed to hate America? Just because Americans make the content doesn't mean that Americans are the only ones to read them, let alone half of the readers, I'll repeat myself, the internet has no race nor nation, people can think whatever they want about whatever without thought for national pride on the internet.

I have a lot of friends in the US that I interact with in the form of online gaming, chat, email RPGs and even over the phone. I wouldn't be mates with them if they weren't decent human beings with a good sense of humour. I've even been to America three times and enjoyed interacting with the people. The people, for the most part, are likable. For every ten decent Americans there's two cocky idiots that I secretly want to punch in the face. When I told one American New Yorker that after two weeks in Manhattan, I needed head back home and see my family again. They frowned at me and probed and hounded me for not having a good time and complaining. I wasn't complaining, I loved Manhattan, I just had a two week trip.

One thing that scared me when I was in the US was seeing the American flag hanging off the side of every building. Being an Australian, where it's an effort just to get us standing for our national anthem (and half of us don't even know the words), the level of patriotism is frightening, as it resembles the blind flag-worshipping of Nazi Germany.

I don't despise America for the whole invading of other countries and stamping its authority on third-world nations. It's not really welcomed through the world as a whole, but Britain got away with it... and that was when natives only had spears and were mowed down in their thousands. Where's their negative media attention and street protests around the world? This time the battle's more even as both sides have guns and tanks. Thanks to Britain, native Australians have suffered long term affects of nuclear tests held in outback Australia. Britain's no worse than the US.

I actually think that anti-Americanism is the last socially acceptable form of racism. I'll admit that I can't think of an average white American as anything flattering, and TBH, I haven't had a lot of experiences to dissuade me. That being said, I'm married to an American, so it can't be all that bad.

I don't think that Americans themselves are exactly hated, but I think there's a fairly widespread disapproval of the culture. My favourite trick to play is convincing Americans that I own a kangaroo, which, I hate to say, has been believed whole-heartedly by everyone I've told it to, even when I say things like "It's really hard to find saddles for him." And really, how can I convince myself out of believing that Americans are uneducated hicks when they think that a modern Australian lives in a tin shed and rides her kangaroo to work?

I'm gonna say what Ken from In Bruges said to the American midget:
"Just try not to say or do anything crass."
