Here is an interesting question: to those from outside the United States:

A lot of people I know don't like the US for whatever reason they might have, shallow or actual. Myself? I've been to the US on holiday and think it's a great country. I have no problems with it or it's citizens. That's my view though, it certainly helps to have actually visited the place.

Well...let me just post the sentiment I feel in the form of a question:

Why should anyone regard the U.S as America, or you as an American just as you seem to do?(take this not as an actual answer meant to be offensive or mean spirited)

That's it. And if someone even cares to answer that, they'll se why someone would probably dislike U.S citizens in a certain personal level that they may not even be aware of, even if they are wrong for doing it.

Keep in mind that many European and most emerging or industrializing nations see America as a competitor in the world market, and vie with us for- well, sometimes no more than international influence (France). Anti-Americanism is a powerful propaganda tool and you'll see the evidence of this when you talk to people abroad.

As an aside, nothing would make me happier than more cooperation between the UK, US, and Canada. Our three nations have a shared heritage and unique world view. I do wish the US government would pay more attention to our allies. I'd like to think I can always count on you, but I know our government has been dropping the ball.

Trivun, I disagree that we owe you anything, though. And I'm surprised you say we forget about that connection, because I haven't experienced that. Many Americans celebrate Jamestown, VA as the first city in America, even though that honor indisputably belongs to Saint Augustine, a Spanish settlement. Also, I disagree about the world wars. To me, WWII is the one that's debatable. We had a clear shared interest in that conflict, but in WWI that wasn't as clearly present. And you guys begged us to come. I can't imagine any basis for claiming that you saved us- that wasn't even our continent. But I still think Britain is, and should be, our best friend in the world.

What pride? People are just saying what they think about the US & citizens. Nobody's toting their flag(s).

however people here tend to hate America.
despite the fact that it is an American magazine.
the internet has no race nor nation.
but this site is still hosted in America by Americans and most of the articles are done by Americans. there for it is a bit silly to say that most of the site (most users here are Americans) hates Americans.
actually, it's not entirely obvious which group has the most members, technically it's the US but nobody but the employee's know whether or not the US makes up half the forum members. not only that you have to take into account how many active members are from each area, and I know most active members are not Americans. On top of all that, aren't Americans allowed to hate America? Just because Americans make the content doesn't mean that Americans are the only ones to read them, let alone half of the readers, I'll repeat myself, the internet has no race nor nation, people can think whatever they want about whatever without thought for national pride on the internet.

I'm talking specifically about Americans commenting on their own country not the thread as a whole, sorry if you didn't pick up on that.

What??

Disneyworld is shit "dawg!"
I agree.
Naw, I'm kidding. But I never go, obviously.
On the grounds that I did, I'm going to have to state that I laughed out loud when I re-read my comment...

I mean't to say disneyworld is the shit.

I actually got to see a lot of Florida when I drove from N Carolina down to Miami. Florida is pretty crap outside Orlando, Daytona and Miami... Just swamps and gators...and reapers.

Im from Chicago and I think that this post kind of goes both ways because when I go to places like England there are some people who automatically think that I'm an idiot because I'm an American. Not everyone thinks I'm dumb though. The majority of people are very nice and will help you with almost anything. Now thats the same for here in America. There are some people who think this and that about English people but the people who think that are dumb. Some people will gladly help tourist with what they need. I just hope that people from other countries don't judge us by the actions of our leaders because not everyone in America agrees with the decisions that they've made.

none the less i still haven heard that many Americans talk badly about their country in the same way that other people would about theirs. America is quite a patriotic country. Ba-Dum-tish
There fixed that for ya. We're more patriotic than most countries but the Americans on this site fall under the portion of the US that aren't all that patriotic, well most of them.

pride like "are you proud to be American or ashamed?" thats what the generally question was, do you like Americans and what not?
Fair enough. I also find it funny though that the majority of us (American posters) are like, "Meh. I just live here."
