Most shounen protagonists and about 90% of the characters in Prometheus. For those who have seen this anime, however this guy deserves a life-time achievement award:

P.S. The anime is Gankutsuou

Final Fantasy Tactics

At one point, Ramza gives away his two Zodiac stones to his sister, "just in case". Cue him slicing his way through the subsequent battles by virtue of being the hero, and his sister is then kidnapped.

He pretty much traded the Mcguffins for the Idiot Ball that time.

Hisao in Katawa Shoujo.

He's a complete dumbass throughout the entire VN.
Really? I only found him that way during Hanako's and Rin's stories...and the only time I yelled "you idiot" was during the latter. Otherwise, he's a pretty friendly guy trying to get used to his new life situation, who's biggest problem with social interaction is oversensitivity in trying not to overstep any bounds or cause offense.

Granted, I never got any of the bad endings, so I know he has the potential to be a complete dumbass, but I kept him from making any game-ending mistakes.

...'cept during the manly picnic, of course.

Frodo. He should not have been the ring bearer.
FUCKIN' A. What a goddamn wuss. And then Sam was there for the entire trilogy saying, "here Frodo, take my food, take my water, let me carry you..."

Yeah, I wonder who REALLY should've carried the fucking thing.

When the villain is holding a hostage with a gun pointed to his head and tells the hero to drop his gun. And the hero doesn't SHOOT HIM IN THE FUCKING HEAD! Bonus dumb points when the villain is holding only a knife.

I wouldn't call him a hero but Walt from Breaking Bad, there have been many times I think he is just a moronic asshole.
But that's the point of the show. He's the main villain of the series, and has been since the beginning.
I disagree, I don't feel that Walt, or anyone else for that matter (except Tuco and Gus at the last part of season 4) has been a villain. Every character in breaking bad is neither bad, nor good, kind of floating in moral limbo. And I love it :D

When I was watching Smallville, I must have called every main good character an idiot at least ten different times. Seriously, I don't know how the series lasted so long when everyone in it except Lionel Luther and maybe Lois Lane was a complete and utter moron. Especially Lana Lang, my god was she a dumb, annoying chore of a woman.

Commander Shepard. I shouted you idiot at him because he kept telling me his favourite store in the citadel.

On a non-gaming subject: Team Rocket.

To be fair, the only reason Sam could do all that is because he wasn't bearing the ring.
But yeah Sam is way better than Frodo.

OT: That bit in Season 1 Episode 2 of the BBC Sherlock show. If you've seen it, you know the bit.

Relevant. I can't think of any specific examples right now, but I trust in tv tropes to deliver some.

As awesome as that show is most of the time, I just can't get behind it because of how much I hate Walt's Family, who are basically his only motivation in the show... Well mainly his wife. If I was him, I'd just tell her to fuck off while I go cook and sell meth, then give the money to his son. She would get nothing for being such a hateful *****.

OT: I can't really think of any non-gaming related Heroes I actually yelled at. Or any that I actually played as. But Zeke from inFamous certainly got me to shout.
What he did in inFamous 1 made me pretty angry
When he was standing there shooting me I kept shouting "I'm sorry Zeke, don't make me shoot you"

That's the most recent one I can think of.

A lot of TV characters make bad choices, but none that I really liked enough to make me actually shout at them.

Rick from The Walking Dead, for not pimp-slapping all the hysterical women into shutting up (I don't mean to sound sexist, but in the show, it's only the women that go "AAAH MY BABY/SISTER/FATHER!" and in general can't make a rational thought to save their life).

After the end of Season 1, I wanted all the men in the group to say "Fuck it, we don't need you. You can stay here and die" to all the other survivors and just leave them (including Ricks stupid-ass son).
Oh dear god, I hated Carl and Andrea. They just had so many annoying attitude problems. I really wish someone would drop kick them a few times.

Myst IV: Myself.

Me: "Oh look, there's a hunting tent! Maybe there's something in it!"

Me: "WAITwaitwaitwaitwait, let's not go there... probably one of those hunter animals in it..."

Me: "Crap... CRAP..."

Me: "STOP. STOOOOOP! YOU IDIOT!"

<animal launches out from beside tent, camera wheels around to see where it ran off to>

Me: "THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS."

<Tent continues flying (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) for about ten seconds, then crashes through the jungle canopy>

Myst IV was the prettiest (it still looks really good eight years later), but it had some of the dumbest moments.

Hello escapees, I'm here to vent about various characters in film we're supposed to side with and ultimately end up hating, it can be one thing, it can be the entire way they do things, or it can just be them.

First, it's the dumb love interest from X-men Origins:Wolverine. (I know, shitty film), for the one last thing she does. She has the bad guy, someone who has shown himself to be willing to kill, hire others to kill, control others with various means to kill, to turn a cheery man into an expriment that required the kidnapping of children and adults, and the forced extraction of their powers, and then ruining someone's life forver. She has this bastard under her control, gets him to stick his gun to his throat...... and makes him walk off.

What
The
Fuck.

Apparantly this would make her "just as bad as him."

No.
No it wouldn't.

You would be killing him, a man who is responsible for the deaths of many, the trauma of more, is going to cause many more problems and deaths for everyone years later, is a borderline genocidal maniac for whom the end justifies the means, and the end is pretty fucking bleak, and you think making him blowing his brains out will make you just as bad as him?

Clearly her brain was damaged.
That's what you took from that?

Didn't you hear what she said? 'Walk until your feet bleed. And then keep walking.' She didn't blow his brains out because she wanted him to suffer.

John Carter in warlord of mars. he sees the villain planing to kidnap the princess, doesn't do anything about it. finds the princess, notices the guy who was going to kidnap her was there, thinks nothing of it. then he gets in a fight with literally everyone in the room except the princess and the guy who was going to kidnap her, and when he's done and surprisingly the princess is missing, he's just looking around like "where the fuck did the princess go?" took him like half a chapter to realize she's been kidnapped by the guy who was going to kidnap her.
