I think you mean 'straight people haven't been shamed regarding their sexuality or identity until certain groups and people decided identity politics were the be-all and end-all of cultural discussion'. And since that advent of that, yeah, quite a lot of hetero people have been made to feel ashamed - not only of who 'they' are, but what they've supposedly done to folks that have a different perspective and sexuality.

You kind of lost me there a bit, I'm afraid. I'm not interested in making anything about myself or heteros in general, because we don't need things made about us 99% of the damn time.

I'm well aware not all straight people feel the same, or I wouldn't be embarrassed as fuck by the people trying to make het-pride a thing.

As I said before, gay pride is a response to years of suffering, it feels a bit petty and ridiculous to demand one of our own. We don't need it. Straight allies are welcome at gay pride, if you want to show your support then about how you're one of the good straights, that's when to do it.

A certain subset of that 'group' tend to not just hate, but loathe a different section of society you could call 'Traditionals'. I think it would be nice to have a day/event that told people in that Traditional group that no, not everybody hates them and yes, they have a place at the cultural table just as much as anyone else.

And what does that have to do with straight pride? Unless you're saying that we need a day for straight people to be reassured that the scary gays don't hate them, in which case- still no.

As a person in a heterosexual relationship, fuck me this is embarrassing. We are completely and utterly accepted. We don't have to worry about being kicked out of our houses or sent to camps for being straight. We don't have to worry about being shot for it.

I'm sorry, there isn't a liberal, or progressive pride day... That's neither here nor there. The whole point is society as a whole, all over the world, is saying that a set of variant sexualities and gender identities is sinful, morally wrong, against nature, and needs to be erased, destroyed, or shamed back into the closet... Those variant sexual and gender identities are most certianly not cisgender heterosexual folk. A few political hacks trying to shame cis hetero folk isn't the same as the massive global social ostracism, erasure, and violence GSM folk face.

How about, just, try not to be hateful, whoever you are.

Yes, the people who boost this are almost certainly going passive-aggressive about recent Pride events, and yes, it's pretty damn rare for someone to be beaten or killed for being straight, and yes, there are still entire countries where being gay puts your liberty and life at risk.

But I've spent a week watching straight friends preparing for their parts in local Gay Pride events, and it's quite wonderful.

Whereas the reaction to this (not among my friends, thankfully), isn't. This is the kind of crap that puts people in opposite corners, us and them. This is the thinking that you can't win unless someone loses, and it's less important that people stand together than that the groups you hate feel terrible.

People are going to be stupid for a while. Stupid on the Internet. Ignore them, and they'll stop, probably within a month. Be as outraged and hateful as you imagine them to be, and this will drag on, and a lot of people who might be apathetic or sympathetic are going to get the impression the cause of gay rights is full of people who hate heterosexuals.
