That sounds like a dismissal more than anything else, especially with you trying to change the subject, because this wasn't about pride about political alignments, but sexual orientations. The one thing your post implied is that "traditionalists" need special recognition, a pat on the back, because reasons... The group most notable for attempting to enforce the status quo and deny equal rights to other groups, like women, racial minorities, LGB folk, trans folk, people with disabilities and so on. Standing in the way of progress and equality as a corner stone of ones political objectives, being unable to coexist equally with other groups... That's not something to be proud of...THM said:Yeah...I'm opting out of the rest of this discussion myself, since I have a feeling we're talking at each other rather than to. That's your viewpoint, and you're welcome to it, I just don't agree with it.KyuubiNoKitsune-Hime said:A few political hacks trying to shame cis hetero folk isn't the same as the massive global social ostracism, erasure, and violence GSM folk face.
I think single people celebrate that on Valentine's Day already.Happyninja42 said:Sounds like National Masturbation Pride Day to me.JUMBO PALACE said:This seems to be the part that humans get wrong all the time. I'm white, straight and male, and I kinda believe that's exactly what it is as well. It may possibly be started with honest intentions, but we've all seen this song and dance before. It's probably not.THM said:It's only that if you see it as that.undeadsuitor said:Straight pride is "I'm catered to 24/7 but the small amount of attention gay people get upsets me"
You do know that the term "regressive left" was coined by a Muslim, right?Musou Sadie said:The regressive left got played like a fiddle, lots of fun on Twitter talking to racist and sexists heterophobic hypocrites who don't really want equality but keep their special snowflake status, who of course defend a certain religion that throws gay people from rooftops, BUT EVIL WESTERN WORLD WHERE GAYS ARE PROSECUTED WHOOOOOO.
Where exactly do we draw the line though? As far as I can see your argument boils down to "Straight people are the ones mistreating LGBT (and whatever other letters of the alphabet), so they shouldn't get a day". As such the entire argument boils down to which group marginalizes another. Should the Lesbian and Gay be denied day because some of them discrimination against the Bi- and transsexual? I'm guessing no, but in truth that discrimination might be even worse.KyuubiNoKitsune-Hime said:That sounds like a dismissal more than anything else, especially with you trying to change the subject, because this wasn't about pride about political alignments, but sexual orientations. You can say we're talking at each other instead of to each other, but it remains you're the one who had to switch it to a political culture wars subject. Considering that it's the "traditional" side that is doing the vast majority of the shaming and being exclusionary... You can disagree all you like, it doesn't change the basic facts in this case: Marginalized groups in society are actively oppressed and shamed, pride events held by those groups are a rejection of the shaming and oppression. That shaming and oppression comes from groups that identify themselves as 'conservative' and 'traditional. Then things like; "Why don't we have heterosexual/Caucasian pride day?", is at best being totally tone deaf and ignorant of the unique issues marginalized groups face.
I'm married and I celebrate it every day. xDJUMBO PALACE said:I think single people celebrate that on Valentine's Day already.Happyninja42 said:Sounds like National Masturbation Pride Day to me.JUMBO PALACE said:This seems to be the part that humans get wrong all the time. Simply being gay is not the issue of pride. Being yourself in a world where you can lose your job, have your lease canceled, be denied visitation rights to your spouse, be denied adoption, or murdered in a nightclub because of being gay is what they're proud of. That is why "Heterosexual Pride" is such an obnoxious fucking idea: Its premise only makes sense if you pretend gay people are just proud of liking to put dicks inside butts so we totes need a day to be proud of putting dicks in vajs yo.Rastrelly said:Being gay is not a choice, right? Then, it is an inborn quality. Thus, there's as much to be proud of being gay, as it is of being straight. So I don't see anything funny in this.
That question was answered in this thread before I even wrote my response. Come on, now. If you're not willing to read the thread, then let's not couch these things as if they're questions. Just present them as the arguments they are: "Gay people shouldn't have pride days."Musou Sadie said:On an even more serious note though, how can one be proud of gender or sexuality?
Even the lefthanded have a day? Well, I guess they're an oppressed minority.Ten Foot Bunny said:I celebrate August 13 - International Left-Handers' Day. It's a cause I'm passionate about.Everything else is window dressing.
Try using right-handed scissors. Or needing to borrow a glove for softball/baseball. Or sitting next to someone right-handed at dinner. Or watching someone blindly pick up your glass and drink from it. Or play Skate 3. Or use a pen chained to a desk.shinyelf said:Even the lefthanded have a day? With fear of sounding like a stereotype, some of my family is lefthanded.Ten Foot Bunny said:Try using right-handed scissors. Or needing to borrow a glove for softball/baseball. Of course I'm blowing things way out of proportion, so don't take me seriously... lol But those things ARE still annoying.
Why, they can commit all of them! Do not fear, my friend, we shall all burn in the inferno!Silentpony said:Wait, what sins can gay people NOT commit?CaptainMarvelous said:Can we have Heterosexual Envy Day instead? Really need some Deadly Sins diversification in our events.
