Hollywood Interested in Mass Effect Movie

While I don't immediately doubt that it could be good, it kind of defeats the point of the games. Mass Effect is already essentially a movie, with deep, high-quality levels of interaction. If if wasn't about Shepard, to take away the role-playing elements would not work in its favor.

But still, we'll see what comes of this.

Turning video games into movies has always had disatrous results. This is a horrible idea and a waste of time.

But why do I even waste my time doing this, it's still probably going to happen.

Only if Bioware is involved heavily involved in the movie, like so involved that they make the movie in-house.

I think the reason videogame movies fail is because the filmakers don't ask the game makers how to do their work justice.

But then again, Mass Effect, I think, would lend itself much better to something like a 20 episode miniseries on HBO, or something. You can't squeeze Mass Effect down to a two and a half hour film and make it work. But if you have 20, one hour episodes, then you might make it work.

I doubt a Mass Effect movie could stand on it's own.
Also, I keep hearing this. What the h*ll? Where did this idea come from? Star Trek and Star Wars are very different takes on sci-fi, and they're the biggest. Not only is Mass Effects world very unique, but if I DID consider it "based" in those worlds, then I would have to do the same for damn near every sci-fi in the last 20 years that wasn't written by Philip K. Drug-Addict.

Yeah... this is going to go the way of the Halo movie.

The movie companies are seeing a cheap to mid budget sci fi actioner with a cheap cast, one star and an off the peg script with the names changed to fit. They want to buy the rights from whoever at a nominal fee and then tell them to piss off, they'll get their chueque in the post.
Bioware and Microsoft are seeing a full beans blockbuster with an at least passable script and due care and attention paid to to the source material. They want a high degree of creative input and some decent actors, writer and director put in on it.

The movie idiots won't be willing to put that kind of money into a film about a videogame. Bioware isn't interested in selling it's soul for twenty pieces of silver. Cue stalemate just like Halo.

Meh. The story wouldn't translate that well. Shephard is a huge Mary Sue and it only works out when he/she is your Mary Sue. Would at least need a lot of work with character dynamics, seeing how there's any only between the PC and the rest of the cast and it's honestly speaking not that believable thanks to the choice-play system.

There's Star Trekian ships, sexy blue aliens with tentacles on their head, droid armies and Force powers.

I'm not saying that because it's a lot like Star Wars/Trek that the game is bad. I'm just saying it wouldn't work as a movie. Just as Uncharted and MGS are great games that wouldn't work as movies.

The game is already enough like a movie to make an actual movie of it irrelevant. All you need to do is put all the cutscenes and more important dialogues together, throw in some bland action scenes, maybe one scene of bare ass if you're shooting for an R rating, and you've got the mass effect movie. I wouldn't pay eight bucks to see it. I already paid sixty bucks to see it three years ago!

Everybody should just know, I called this a while back. NO THIS CANNOT BE! Mass Effect was the one thing I was sure of WAS NOT a sell out (kinda) and only tried to please the fans and not everyone else, but now THIS?!?!? Oh well I predict it won't happen anyway.
