I thought too human was going to be amazing ... wrong

I thought cod4 was going to be rubbish when my friend bought it, because I don't really like army games, but I absolutely lvoed the campain. probably because it wasn't yet another WWII game.

Thought the new prince of persia was going to be good, because i loved the other 3 ps2 ones. But they for some reason decided to dumb down the acrobatics and decided to take away the whole fun of the combat instead made it slow and dull dunno what the hell they were thinking with that.

Gears of war - I wasn't really that much into fps's at the time apart from the halo series, this one opened my eyes and ever since I;ve been sure to get hold of fps's with a good, fun multiplayer campain.

Lord of the Rings Conquest ... I was looking forward to this game so much. Huge disappointment.

FFX-2 - the proof that just because your predecessors are amazing, doesn't mean you're gonna be. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the constant cheesy charlies angels thing they had going on the entire time.

Escape from monkey island - somehow just didn't live up to its predecessors.

That should do for now :p

Sigh... everyone ready your javelins to throw at my face....

I was convinced that God of War would be the best game ever because every video game review website and TV show wouldn't stop raving about how good it was. I bought it and found it to be just alright. Maybe the hype built up my expectations too much....

A lot of people have expressed disappointment at Far Cry 2, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. Of course it has some serious flaws. I had fun though.

Fallout 3 was a disappointment. It was a fine RPG, but a bad shooter.

I played Oblivion (360). Then I was walking through a local Gamestop and saw Morrowind (PC). I thought that I would like it, because the internet had regarded it as practically the best computer game evah. I bought it just after Christmas, installed it, played it for 2 days. I have yet to even open the folder again.

Before playing Metal Gear Solid (any of them) I thought I'd hate the games at first for being so cutscene-heavy, But I played MGS2 and loved it. Since then I've played 1, 3, and 4, and loved all of them as well. Almost all my postings on this site so far have mentioned the series, which makes me feel like a fanboy. and I don't like feeling like a fanboy.
By the way, Raiden is NOT THAT BAD! He's not as cool as snake, granted, but I still felt he became more likable later in the game..

I thought the concept of Kingdom Hearts sounded really bad.

I love those games so much. I was really wrong.

System Shock 2. I thought the game was boring as hell with all these dull corridors and same enemies but then I bought and it turned out to be one of the best games ever

I thought Gothic would be mediocre, and to my surprise I loved it. I thought Jade Empire looked boring and liked it a lot.

I'm biased against games that aren't traditional fantasy RPG's of the "make up your character and customize them for 45 minutes before you even step out the door" type, although in recent years I've learned to branch out and become better at predicting the decent-ness level of a game.

I was EXTREMELY hyped for Far Cry 2. The game is fun, but it just didn't live up to my expectations.

Most games I hype about I actually still like:
Halo 3
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Gears of War 2
The Orange Box
Saint's Row 2
etc.

But one game I really, really couldn't wait to try out was Turok. See I remembered the desperate survival based fun I'd had in the King Kong game so I was expecting something truly amazing with Turok. However I was dissapointed.
Instead of some kind of desperate attempt to fight off dinosaurs I got given the instant kill knife and after that there was no reason to use anything else and let me tell you it DOES stop being fun. Admittedly I liked that there were small dinosaurs and herbivore dinosaurs that are harmless and just wandering around, it helped make the scene. Though I didn't like that you were able to kill them, for fun. These harmless creatures being killed for the sake of perverse glee.
The dinosaurs looked great though I admit, as gametrailers put it: The shine on their reptilian skin shows of every muscle moving and the animation is so convincing that you'll wonder if the developers didn't invent a time machine to study these creatures' or something like that.
But then came my first gun fight and you know what it is disasterous, there isn't enough cover and it's too far spaced over the battlefield. The enemy can shoot you from nine hundred feet away perfectly accuratley with a SMG, every shot hits. They figure out where you are in seconds and although the gunfights with dinosaurs mixed in were a nice feature it still feels screwy at points.
The guns were generic and you die way too quickly, the control layout is confusing and despite every map being self contained you can get lost incredibally easily.
It stopped being fun after a while and started getting REALLY annoying REALLY fast. The story is so simple and is given in such unsatisfying does's so it was hard to understand what was going on. Some of those button pressing sequences where a dinosaur attacks you are plain broken.
I was hitting the button over and over again and nothing bloody happened so the dinosaur still killed me.
This game actually hurt my feelings, I decided from then on if I wanted a true dinosaur survival game and not just an endorsement for animal cruelty I would play King Kong.

Have you ever had a preset opinion, and been totally wrong about a game? Have you ever thought something would be awful, and then loved it, or vice versa?
I try to not be prejudiced and dismiss things before I play them.

I though Spiderman 3 would be awesome because Spiderman 2 was awesome. I got a wii version and... well, it sucked pretty hard.

After 2 years of chasing up info on Brawl hype I thought the game would be the greatest thing in the world but I rather not talk about it. :(

I bought Civilization Revolution.... i have no idea why, it looked cool.

It sucked. Hard.
I know how you feel. The demo was so good, I couldn't stop myself! And now look, I'm stuck with a stupid game I hate.
Wtf was with the turn limit! After i nuked Ghandi to hell, i couldnt make another nuke, and then eventually the game ended. What the hell, i dont know if there was a way to fix this, but i didnt care, and i threw the game to the far corner of the shelf and havent opened it since.
And that fucking tech tree, what was up with that? You can get literacy before writing, and advanced flight before flight! Also did you ever attack a city, only to be told it was being defended by Roman settlers with 666 attack?

I expected Dawn of War 2 to have an awesome single-player campaign...

I thought Halo:CE would be crap...

I thought Crysis would be at least half as good as the reviews said...

I thought Dead Space would be scary...

I thought Monkey Island 4, Battle for Middleearth 2, Heroes of Might and magic 4&5 and Empire: Total War would improve on their predacessors and not turn out to be bad knockoffs...

Just some of the times I turned out to be wrong ;)
