From ascending to a higher plane of existence?

You know who I think is holding gaming back?
1) Console fanboys
2) People who cry because they get DLC a few days late, and don't seem to understand why. See Skyrim PS3 DLC here*
3) People who are casual gamers BUT SAY THEY ARE NOT. I have no problem with casual gamers.
4) People who cannot distinguish casual and hardcore games but think they can.
How is any of that holding anything back from anything?

I only really buy indie games during the humble indie bundle packages, which means small devs doing great work don't get the money they deserve.
Apart from that, none og my practices are "holding back the industry", and i tihnk the term is somewhat absurd. Holding back the image of the industry perhaps.

Many think the obsession with graphics is holding the medium back due to how much it costs but I like games being "pretty" and have on occasion bought a game mostly because of that. No it?s not the most important thing, graphical fidelity is less important than good design (though still somewhat important) and I will play a game that looks like ass if I like the game play but looking good does add a considerable amount to my enjoyment of a game. I?m the sort of person will stop to marvel at the scenery.

I also like ?gritty realism? though yes I think we?re getting a bit over saturated with attempts at that.

I don?t have any particular issue with DLC, even day one DLC. So long as their is no false advertising, it?s not something that unbalances multiplayer and it?s not something critical to the main game I?m fine with it (though even the last 2 are ok so long as you know before you buy the game that it has that. I just won't buy it). I think it?s their right to sell their product the way they want and you are not entitled to all content made pre release.

I like genre mixing which some seem too despise and see it as a sign of trying to appeal to the masses.

That all I can think of really.

Yes but how does that translate to "holding gaming back"?

I really like the New Super Mario Bros. series. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" is how I see it, and Mario platformers sure as hell aren't broken.

Uh... I really enjoyed Bulletstorm?

I hugely prefer voiced dialogue to old school RPG list-o-options dialogue systems.

I prefer gameplay that relies on player input rather than character stats.

I don't have any particular objection to DLC, even on-disc day-one DLC.

Oh, and I'm not currently boycotting any publishers.
Dude, Im positive everyone enjoyed Bulletstorm... it had liberal use of the term Dick Tits, whats not to love?

Anyways, I like FPS games, Like COD (and feel that Blops 2 is the best thing to happen to the franchise since COD4). I havent a problem with most DLC. I think Mortal Kombat 9 (the newest) is better than most other fighting games Ive tried. Unless its called Minecraft or FTL, I dont really give a shit about Indie games.

And I still think the Wii's motion controls suck ass, and I wont be touching the WiiU unless the second coming of Jesus a game of that equivalent comes to it exclusively...

Like I said in my previous post I don't really care what others do at the end of the day, others can be pirates and just play a used copy of COD all day. I just think think it removes any right for the person to moan about the state of gaming or pretend to be some kind of hardcore gamer. That would be the same as pretending to be a foody to your peers and watching cookery programs while never making anything more complex than beans on toast.

I liked Doom 3, what can I say? It's not a rock and roll shoot-em-up like the first two, but is that necessarily bad?
Same here I also liked Quake 4. Maybe I deserve stoning.

As some people would like to make you believe yes.

Actually it's more the problem that comes from gaming culture being viewed as a single collective entity by the general public and that every "negative" thing to come out of it applies to everyone associated.

By "holding the medium back" I'm just referring to anything you like which you feel is often lambasted as standing in the way "true progress"(whatever that is?) or is contributing to the negative stereotype of gamers as a whole. Because you know that thing YOU like is totally making the rest of us look bad... and apparently that's a pressing concern.

I honestly believe women will never be integrated in this culture unless gaming culture becomes "cool".
I don't know what that says about my opinion of gaming culture, or my opinion of women, but that's my personal experience.
you dont know any women who play games regulary do you? you will find lots on the escapists, all types of gamers. maybe we arent as many, but the numbers grow and dominate at some types of games. Statistics show that overall women make like a third of the total number of people you could call gamer.

OT: I guess I cant express my likes as I cant afford games usually. my next one will most likely be bioshock infinite. Luckily I sometimes have a friend buy me a cheap game (bastion, left4dead)

I shop at Gamestop and get my games used. For what its worth though, steam is really competing for my attention.
This. I will buy new if I like the developer/publisher/whatever and wish for them to have my monetary support. For instance, if there's ever a Psychonauts 2, I will buy new. I buy all Activision games used. I can still enjoy it, and they don't get my money.

I loooooooovvvvve COD black ops.

I think more games should have co-op.

Activating flame shield!!!
1. I buy used games unless I really like the game or publisher. Buying used games doesn't hurt anyone. THE COMPANY HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID FOR THE PRODUCT YOU PURCHASE! Plus whatever money the retailer spent to aqcuire the game in the first place! It's NOT the customer's responsibility to support every developer/publisher. The fact that game companies are trying to imply otherwise makes me sick!

2.Black Ops 2 is, (cringe)... pretty good... There, I said it. I have to eat my words. I played through the campaign and am playing a lot of multiplayer on the pc at the moment. While I still think that game doesn't get half of the attention and care from the developers that it deserves, I feel like I got my money's worth.

3. ALL GAMES SHOULD HAVE CO-OP! I really didn't know this was some kind of issue gamers have. How does Co-op hold the industry back? It doesn't take anything away from the game, and it let's you share a game you like with a friend. If Halo didn't have co-op, I wouldn't be a gamer today! Gamers and publishers really underestimate this option in games. Sure, multiplayer is fun, but co-op is fun to play with ANY level of gamer. I've introduced many of my friends to gaming through this wonderful game mode!

Oh, man, this one.
I had a discussion with a friend about this, co-op in ANY game can make it more fun. Even if it's a really deep and engaging game like Bioshock or Shadow Of The Colossus, they'd probably get less engaging, but way more fun!
Even if it doesn't make sense story-wise, throw it in! Halo co-op had another Spartan for no reason whatsoever but you know what? Halo has some pretty darn good co-op!
Anyway.
I'm still sending EA money, and I'm going to keep sending them money as long as they keep making games that I want to play, including Dead Space 3, which I think might still be pretty good. Won't be scary anymore, but still pretty good. To be fair, EA makes some pretty good games, they just handle everything else SO POORLY.

If I asked them to just use a pre-existing game engine & to put all the money they would have put into the graphics into the story & gameplay, is that forwards or backwards moving?

I honestly think people are thinking a little too much about it.

You like COD? Thats fine by me. You arent doing anything bad and much less killing the industry somehow (a big L O L). Same goes for other stuff like Gears and Halo that I dont actually like, but I respect those that play it.

All In All, I honestly belive the whole "killing the industry of videogames" is just simply an excuse to blame on why games you hate dont deserve to be played. Its really lame.
I find it so ironic that the people who argue games like CoD is holding gaming back is often the same people who wants to have their old nostalgic favorite back in the limelight.

They don't want gaming forward. They just want their particular brand to dominate.
I also would like to add Zelda and Pokemon fans to that list seeing how Pokemon has not changed that much sense the Silver and gold sires and when Zelda has tried new things people hatted them (I liked Zelda 2 and windwaker) but I'm also one in this list because I'm not a huge fan of a game sires but I do like my old point and click games and I'm a huge fan for sprite based game. That being said I do enjoy new games and there innovation Black ops 2 just going for silly fun but also having a dynamic story line that can change and Indie games that bring new and interesting ideas to the table.

I'm holding gaming back by not complaining enough. I go with the flow and hope for a bright future and plan on how to make things better. I look for the good in games and don't see negative so much as deficiency of positive. The real people whoa re improving games are those who complain unceasingly to let companies know what they did wrong and how inferior they are at making games since they missed X, Y or Z.

So basically people who obnoxiously think they are right without weighing up both sides of any argument.

*Yes I know it was nearly a year late but if you don't understand why I only feel pity for you
What about people who completely understand why the Skyrim DLC was late but are still pissed off about it? simple fact is, this stuff shouldn't happen, end of story. Why it did was never relavent in my opinion. Although honestly I was only ever slightly miffed since I no longer had my copy of Skyrim by the time DLC came out anyway, I'll buy it again when it does

OT:

I don't own a 360 and therefore am a Sony fanboy who hates microsoft, and apparently the fact that both the 360s I have owned have died on me, and the only reason I ever needed a new PS3 was for more storage space due to all the free games I've been getting is not even close to relavent.

By not wanting multiplayer in any game that isnt a shooter or fighter.
By believing that females will never be as good at video games as men.
By looking down on "casual gamers" or anybody that doesnt like the games that I like.
By refusing to acknowledge motion controls whatsoever.

Hard to join in on the lack of innovation. I'm pretty stingy with my purchases especially cause I don't like being pushed around by companies, I'm generally accepting that everyone should and can play and enjoy our medium, and I respect others opinions on things they don't like that I do, providing evidence that justifies my opinion to top it off if the other person acts like an adult. Damn it I'm too pure. I'm gonna have to go with:

I bought and enjoyed COD Black Ops 2, my only sin in a while.

I tip my hat to your good taste my good sir/madam.
