Good video. I always liked watching Bungie's ViDocs. It's interesting the hear them discuss design ideas and commentary.

So, wait... the developers admit that the game was originally a 2-3 hour minigame but they made it to a full game instead?
Isn't that the whole consensus on ODST - that it is more of a glorified Halo expansion pack rather than a full Halo game?

I don't get it... did Bungie just shoot themelves in the foot with that quote?

WRONG anime is an art style get it right
Actually, "anime" is a Japanese cartoon, not an art style. I've taken care of an exchange student from there, and we talk about anime plenty. She explained that anime is basically the word for "cartoon" in Japan. So anime is, by definition, Japanese. I imagine you watch the English dubs?

Anyway, yes, ODST looks quite good: besides, I expect no less from Bungie.

Only if you're already looking for a reason to shoot down the game.

In a year, with a small team, they had enough time to build a full game given the time savings possible from using an existing and stable engine. (Like how Valve originally planned to do the Half-Life 2 episodic content, before they changed their minds for reasons I don't know.) I've spoken with people who've played the game and they all agree that it holds up on its own, getting 8-10 hours of play through the single player on the first run-through and all opining that there's ample replay value just exploring the city alone; that's without "Firefight" or co-operative play.

It doesn't matter what it started out as; Halo itself started out as an RTS and Psychonauts started out as a zen meditation game. It's what it ends up as that's important.

After burning through the single player of H-3 over a single weekend I was fed up with the Halo games (won't even touch Halo wars). However the ODST video shows that the game is promising enough for me to try it, rent rather than buying. The voice acting, what we heard of it, sounds good, I like the fact that you're not playing as Master Chief.
The lack of dual-wielding and the Halo flavor of regenerating health (seems a lot quicker than the last two COD games) gives the game a more realistic, for a fps at least, and militaristic feel. I ,however, don't like that they made the silenced weapons sound louder to increase the feeling of power. In Rainbow Six Vegas the silencers (sound suppressors really) mad the gunshots barely audible but the guns still had a feeling of power, though that could be from the blood splatter or the impact animations.
The anime(mated) series looks like it has the potential to be really good, as long as they don't go the American edits to anime. I.e. removing all of the blood, foul language, on-screen death, turning liquor into milk or water, turning cigarettes into loli-pops etc.
It would kinda kill a scene if a hardened military man to shout "Gosh arnd you, you jerks! I'll destroy you!" (Like the American t.v. version of Vegeta from DBZ)

Interesting. Doesn't implies you have knowledge of this. Considering this is (to my own knowledge) the first Halo anime to be created, I wonder how you would know beyond a shadow of a doubt (for your words do not seem to leave any) that a Halo anime=automatic fail.
Because an anime about people in power armor couldn't possibly work...

Is that a joke? Anime hasn't been good for a long time.

Anyway, I'm vaguely interested in ODST. Firefight sounds like a laugh, and the campaign seems solid. Halo 3's remaining 3 multiplayer maps is a minor bonus.

Roll on Reach, I say.

I know because there is nothing to base it off unless you want a Mecha Halo...
Or a romance halo...
Halos only strong point would be its action
Which is much more effective in games + It has been done to excellent standards many times before

as someone who got to the Anime not anime if outside japan mistake before me should know

We don't need a repeat standard anime for a standard anime is fail
Ouch. Oof. My brain...ouch. I think my skull is bleeding.

So let me see if I can get this straight, as your writing doesn't seem to have surpassed basic middle school.

Halo Legends can only be good in the anime style if it is based on mecha or romance? But anime clearly cannot do action, which is what Halo's strong suit is?

ignore The romance bit but
I was saying that since so many Action and Mecha animes have been made it would mean nothing

Has nobody heard of Ninja Scroll these days? Or Hell, DragonBall Z. Wait, no, you kids have Naruto these days, but even then it's all fighting fighting fighting with sluggish plot movement. Plus, considering I got into anime because of its varying sci-fi settings (Ghost in the Shell, Trigun,(love these two :p) Evangelion, Legend of Galactic Heroes, Macross, Akira and so on) I'd say doing a space-war anime is right up their alley. So...what's the problem?

How old are you, anyway?
It was 11 o'clock at night I was tired
Actually i'm 14 and your not meant to ask that

On topic: Halo 1 brought my brother and I back together for the first time since Contra and Ninja Turtle games on the NES and SNES. The setting was intriguing with a rather straight forward plot, but a lot of the combat scenarios were pretty cool in that War Is Hell sense (especially on Legendary). Halo 2 I liked the story, I can understand why Bungie chose to end it as they did, and while it was very linear with few open environments the combat was still fun.

Halo 3 fucked up hardcore. Straight forward story that was disappointing and sucked, trying to imitate Halo 1 all over the place but failing to grab what made it so excellent, completely linear battles and any large battlefield was pretty much nothing but a vehicle-vs.-vehicle brawl. Not a bad game, but it's just...so not that great.

ODST has me psyched. While I'm honestly sick of Bungie making Halo games (thank God Reach is allegedly the final one), I really love the concept of this. Even if the single-player isn't as different as I would hope, Firefight is gonna be another major time sucker. It's a shame people didn't start imitating the game mode when Epic did it in UT2K4, but at least they revived it in Gears 2 for Bungie to copy. Now it should start becoming a standard sort of game mode.
any other very bad insults just pm me because i'm bored of pressing the quote button

I don't think you understand. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime

And I have no idea what you mean when you bring up cartoons. Cartoons are a much more broad spectrum than Anime. This has nothing to do with that.

There is no single Anime "art style". It makes no sense from an artist point of view or that of a logical thinking person.
there is no single Cartoon style either

Anime has a moderate spectrum to and some animes are thought of as cartoons...
some good ones to

Plus, there's more Nathan Fillion, and I believe the records show that Nathan Fillion is an extremely sexy man.
Now I see why you're suddenly interested in ODST.
In this thread I learned Nathan is a prominent voice actor. In this thread, I simultaneously learned I'm interested in a Halo game. :O I wonder how much the two have in common!

Oh so like those child armies in Africa? Wow, that would be pretty brutal seeing kids under 10 rip apart aliens. Although kids killing demons, aliens, etc isn't exactly breaking new ground either.

Cutting the sarcasm for a second, anime is not some holy grail of media. Japan is fully capable of producing crap on their own too, if you haven't already seen your fair share of horrible anime then you must not have been watching it very long. If you dislike the Halo universe or the premise of putting that into animated form, then more power to you - it's our opinion to have. And I'm not even going to argue that this will likely be anything more then a simple marketing grab, but anime is no more special or superior to any other visual medium. They all have their intelligent thought out pieces, their action fluff eye candy and shows or films that are flat out horrible in all regards.

"Exosquad is an American animated television series created Universal Cartoon Studios as a response to Japanese anime. The show is set in the beginning of the 22nd century and covers the interplanetary war between humanity and Neosapiens, a fictional race artificially created as workers/slaves for the Terrans. The narration generally follows Able Squad, an elite Terran unit of mecha pilots, on their missions all over the Solar System, although other story lines are also abundant. The series ran for two complete seasons on USA Network and FOX, from September 1993 to November 1994, and was cancelled after one third-season episode had been produced."

Excerpt taken from wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exosquad]
this cartoon had mecha and super soliders and a war between two militaries. From that I can see that people can really do a good anime if they put their effort in it. So for all you people who hate Halo Legends before it has come out, please give it go before you cry foul.
