Quick question. Did you even read the whole post, or just go of the title? While your first part about the alternate opinion is correct, he says nothing about being proved wrong and that if not we're wrong. He stated that he didn't really like it but wanted other opinions so he could understand why other people liked it.
He never called it crap and in his second post (3rd overall) stated that he didn't want to judge it because he hasn't even finished it. I understand when a thread has 14 pages why people don't go reading through to see if what they've said has already been discussed. But seriously, there wasn't even 2 pages when you posted. I would think somebody who's been here as long as you would know basic stuff like this.
Lastly, I don't mean to be rude, but it's late here and I'm tired, so I'm probably ranting a bit more than necessary. Sorry for any offence.
It's more unwritten than clear speak. The part that got me was this: "which sounded to me like "We don't know how to build atmosphere, so would you just be scared? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?". ". This part less thinks "oh, maybe I don't think like the people who enjoy the game and my perceptions are therefore different" and more "god damn it they're desperate".
In his second post he said "So before I simply call the game "shitty", "awfull", "crap", I'd like to hear people who actually played it through.", as in that he'd like to hear the opinions of others before calling it simply "shitty" and "crap", which most people who do that expect to be somewhat proven wrong as to avoid giving it what they consider a poor review (and others would agree it's a poor review, but in a different sense). I will admit though a lot of it goes on unspoken territory, so I'm sorry for any mistakes in my view.
Admittedly though, I've fallen into the trap of really trying to work out what people enjoy about the game. Which on face value isn't so much a trap but rather something of interest in the games industry. However, I ended up buying The Witcher 1 and 2 despite getting a decent feel that I'd dislike it, mainly due to reports of it not just being good but very good. I played the first one and didn't not just find it dull but a generally poor game. I felt like I was playing a different edition to everyone else. I seemed to gotten the one with a half-effort story, poor character development and a gameplay system that lacked any form of flow. Not to mention the controls were overly complicated for what seemed to be a rock, paper & scissors gameplay approach. I really did try to work out what people enjoy about The Witcher since I do have an interest in working out the appeal of popular games even I don't personally enjoy, but it's one series I've never worked it out.
