How come no one's allowed to hate stuff anymore?

And yes I've been looked at as some crazed lunatic for actually hating the Beatles by many of my friends and straight yelled at that I'm wrong by people who are not my friends.
YES! The Beatles are bloody awful in my opinion and people need to stop saying that they invented rock. What they did in rock was farther from what rockers have done in the forty years since them then even Elvis. Come now people, see the truth.
Not even that people try to argue that they are better musicians than any of the members in The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin when that is just straight up WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!

I just greatly dislike that people misuse the word hate. For example, I loathe and despise almost everything, but I don't hate anything. Same with love, I like lots of stuff, but only love one thing. Stop misusing these words! I've already reverted to mega-loathe, but what will replace love??
OT: You can like and dislike whatever you want, who cares what everybody else thinks? I don't like bacon either. But don't say you hate it.
You see, it started out the same way for me. But saying dislike gained me just as much stigma as saying hate, and I began to dislike having conversations with people about bacon/coffee so much that it grew into what is definitely hate.

It's not that Hating stuff is banned...it's just that most people don't have the energy to anymore. Why invest emotional energy in hating when there's so much else to be invested in?
Hate requires far too much commitment for modern men to put in. How do you think we were able to start integrating the schools? Hate is becoming far too slow and clunky to be emotionally efficient, unlike it's more modern successor: Disdain!
Disdain is a higher yield emotional investment with little real commitment when compared to hate. Hating takes lifetimes to pay off, if at all. Look at Captain Ahab.
He hated that Stupid Whale, for good reason albeit, and it was the end of the poor old fool.
If he had merely show disdain or disapproval for the whale, he would had a solid emotional nest egg to retire on.
I recommend trimming down the hate in your portfolio to a few standards and basics like:
General Ignorance, or Racism. Those are good, consistent things to invest hate in. They make you look like a savvy investor.
Personally, I think that Snobbery is good up and comer what with all these hipsters running around. Trust me, when the First PBR Shortage War begins, a sizable hate investment in Snobbery will really pay off.
Where was I? Oh yeah...
But I've invested a lot in introspection...too much really...
Introspection and General Curiosity are my heart bets!

Precisely my point!!
The only innovative thing they did at all was be the first to put random noises in the background of their music. And that went out of style after the eighties!

"It's cool to hate
Liking somethin's just a waste of time
It's cool to hate
Don't like nothin and I like that fine
Don't like nothin and I like that fine
Yeah I hate everything I even hate you too so **** you!"

Guess who I just quoted :p

Anyway OT I generally only associate with rational people so it's not really an issue and we don't force our opinions on each other. However I did meet a classic rock fan who got pretty defensive when I said I didn't like Pink Floyd. Nothing really happened except I was forced to listen to The Wall album on the off chance I would suddenly "get it". I like plenty of Rock, but Floyd just doesn't do it for me.

i wouldnt say i have attacked people for liking/not liking something, i am surprised sometimes thou, (such as if someone says they dont like coffee, i dont rage at them but it does shock me)
also i dont appreciate your last comment, youre sounding critical of people who do like it which is exactly what your complaining about,

Sir I think I found someone I can actually talk too! Though bacon and coffee would not be in any of our conversations because I love them so much even though I know they're killing me.

P.S.Fuck John Lennon.

Your opinion is not a valid reason to hate something.
Just say you dislike something, and the reason why, if they ask. Saying you actively despise something asks for trouble. Our society tends to consider someone declaring their opinion as an open invitation to heckle and annoy. Having an unpopular opinion is even more dangerous.
I apologize for this miscommunication, the reasons I referred to were the ones about the health benefits of the items, not my taste of them.

I'm with you on coffee, I like the smell but not the taste. Bacon however, well saying something like that is just asking to get flamed, bacon is awesome. As far as the risks I think they're largely for people who consume too much of these things. I very rarely eat bacon so I'm not worried about the negative health effects and really this can be said of anything (consuming too much is bad for you).

I've had discussions like this with friends but I wouldn't call them arguments, more like joking around making fun of the odd man out. Anyone who would take this too seriously is just a douche.

I'm going to go ahead and put this on your own head for trying to point out why you dislike these things, rather than just shrugging and saying "I just don't like them." I don't think they're ostracizing you because you don't like something they like, I think they're doing it because in trying to convince them that what they like is bad for them, you probably came off like a dick.
This would make sense, only that isn't how the conversations usually happen.

They go like this:

Person A: Well its not as good as bacon.

Me: I don't like bacon.

Person A: What? How can you not like bacon!

Me: Its bad for you and I don't like the taste

Person A: You mind is deviant and must be purged!

The use of the word 'hate' is the reason you're getting such a strong reaction. Do you dislike bacon and coffee to such an extent that you would actually exclaim to hate them - a word usually reserved for only the most tasteless things?. Why do you care enough to hate bacon? If you dislike coffee, wouldn't it be easier to simply not care? In this instance, people would understand your indifference towards the subject, and don't feel offended by your hatred of something they enjoy.

Oh, lordy. If I had a shiny new quarter for every time some weeaboo's shouted at me for not worshipping every little turd Hayao Miyazaki stamps his name on[sup]*[/sup], I'd be a very happy ferret[sup]^[/sup].

I'm also not a terribly big fan of organised religion, organised atheism, censorship, the straight-edge subculture, trance/rave/gabber/hardstyle/any other tripe those day-glo druggies listen to, most aspects of the furry fandom, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, remixing, "realistic" first-person shooters[sup]-[/sup], Kingdom Hearts, gay pride parades[sup]+[/sup], or giving people asspats instead of solutions when they're having trouble. And yes, I have been yelled at for all of the above at some point or another.

[sub]* They literally do use stamps to sign things in Japan, btw.
^ Ferrets like shiny things. It's a fact.
- Attn. CoD/MoH fanboys: Eat a box of dicks.
+ Funny thing is, I'm gay. You'd think they'd stop calling me a homophobe after I mention this, but...

This. "Hate" is so melodramatic, anyway--it's far better to understate one's disdain than exaggerate it.

Although I will agree with other responses here in regards to the use of the word "hate", I get where you're coming from. Using the word "hate" loosely and strictly in a casual, conversational way, I hate all forms of melon. An opinion which gets me a lot strange looks. Watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe etc... Hate it, Hate it, Hate it. I wish I could enjoy it, it looks tasty and I love the bright colours. But the moment it hits my taste buds, my throat tightens and I can't bring myself to swallow. It get spit out in seconds. My tastes refuses it outright.
I agree entirely on the subject of melons. Mostly the texture is what turns me off from them.

This specific dislike though has gained me the epithet in my family as 'the one who doesn't like desert.'

Though that's half from my dislike of most pies as well.

Right, so my suggestion is instead of saying "It's bad for you and I don't like the taste" just say "Eh, it's not for me" and move on.

Bacon is fucking amazing though, I mean, it's bacon. D:

Coffee is ick though, but I live off energy drinks instead.

It's just natural though, people tend to defend stuff they feel loyal about and bacon is that damn popular, I get alot of slack for disliking mayonnaise but I just prefer my sandwiches not to be covered in tasteless white slimey ghoop.

I can agree with you guys here. Some of the later stuff they did was ok but nothing great. I've always thought The Beatles were one of the most overrated bands.
