We will have met up with an alien race and figured out how to dispose o all our pollution periodically, and thus be able to live many more millennia.

All the resources will be used up and a giant GAME OVER will appear in the sky.

All we'll have to do is insert a coin and press continue.

Much better than it is now, just like it always has been every 40 years in the future.

edit - Sadly, you're all very, very wrong. People have been predicting very real, very near future doom since the dawn of history. And lots of uneducated and quick-to-scare folks (like all of you) have been all too ready to believe it. Guess what. It never, ever happened. Things just kept getting better.

A lot like it is now in some ways, radically different in others.

For example, people never change. There will be war, there will be poverty, there will be fear, there will be xenophobia and homophobia.

But perhaps we'll also have electric cars who drive themselves. Who knows?

From what I understand about mini Ice Age cycles, it should be very cold...

It really depends. If nothing is done in the near future then by 2050 we will have seen massive environmental changes due to the fact that climate change is accelerating exponentially. This will certainly have catastrophic effects on the world economy and resource availability. So yeah, your description may not be too far off the truth.

Don't know. But I will probably live long enough to see so I'll get back to you on that.

Besides more advanced technology and higher standards of living, it's impossible to tell.

Although I can safely say that we'll be safe from any over-population because of standards of living in both the Third World(which probably won't exist by that time) and the First World.

More education and prosperity=less babies being born.

Exactly. Would you honestly rather live in the early 20th century where racism was the norm and a shortage of food on the farm could kill you?

EDIT: Why do I get the idea that we'll all be looking at this thread in 2050 and laughing at ourselves?
Because none of our pessimistic the-world-will-end predictions will have come true? Yeah. i get that idea, too...

Or aliens invade
or we find cures for all diseases, causing overcrowdedness and 1 or 2 happens
or we all live happily togheter, in a peacefull society.... and then war breaks out..
i don't have much faith in humanity anymore

No over population because people would have moved to Mars or the Moon(hmm...that doesn't happen often). We also have fusion generators and maybe eternal life for the rich. Diabetes is cured thanks to stem cells/cloning.

World? What world? We would have eithr bombed each other to death, or the big corporations bought out the government. Okay maybe not the last option, but I want 2050 to be cyberpunk-ish.

It'll be mostly the same. The only way anything will change is if some lunatic fires off a nuke.
