How do you imagine the world by 2050?

The plans to have a fully functional, large scale fusion power plant are already underway and its hoped to be finished in the next 30 years. After that it'll just get easier and easier.McNinja said:

I think the future is quite exciting, and that the world is going to change A LOT in the next 30-40 years. Genetic and organic engineering will change the way we look not only at the world we live in but also ourselves. Couple that with the exponential advancement of communication as well as material sciences and the possibilities seem endless.
Google Video "Visions of The Future" if interested about emerging technologies and the huge effects they are going to have on society in the next decades.
In my view, we'll have a world where genetic/biochemical engineering will open up possibilities such as enhanced brain functions, health, and natural capabilities(strength, endurance, vision, etc); in addition, we are likely going to be inherently linked to the web and objects around us as computing and network technologies expand from being exclusive to computers to being integrated into all products.
Don't forget people, we've all got to get through 2012 alive first before we even consider what will happen in 2050 lol.
I've read through everything that is said, and to be honest I'm surprised that no-one has thought that we still have a chance to turn things around.
Someone mentioned this earlier, but for some strange reason we've always been obsessed with our own destruction, either by our own hand or by something else. And in some ways, I don't see it as a bad thing entirely because of the simple fact that it guides us (well, the few of us with some common sense) away from harming ourselves or others.
My personal opinion of what things will be like in 2050? I think it'll be better in many or all respects, hopefully we'll have put an end to most disease as we'll understand that mind rules over matter. We'll be living in a positive utopian world, as we'll also know that not only are we made of the same thing physically, we are all 'one' in a spiritual sense.
The next 5 - 10 years are going to be the most crucial ones, and even if we don't pass them unharmed, I highly doubt it'll be the end of humanity and 'all' life on this planet. I reckon there will be pockets of people in remote places around the world, who'd have learned not to make the same mistakes we and our ancestors made.
But still though, the future isn't set in stone, it's constantly changing and it'll be written by our species as a whole, not solely by the Powers That Be (a.k.a. the oil barons, political parties, or religious leaders). The little man who goes about his daily life will have more say than the politicians over what happens.
'We' the people will have the final say.

In the small chance that we don't all blow each other to hell with nuclear bombs, i imagine it...would most likely be very similiar to the world we live in now, except maybe with a few more technological enhancements and cures. Other then that, i doubt little would change.
we get to have moon colonies and before that China and the US duke it out over oil until we either run out or we get a new power supply.
First there will be oil wars...and then there will be rare-earth metal wars, most likely between the U.S. (And allies) and China...
Mix that in with Population control, faltering capitalist governments, and agriculture issues and you have the makings of a very interesting half century.
Not too worried about the climate. The changes the scientists are discussing will take place over a period of a hundred years...giving humanity ample time to adapt.
I'll just cry like a baby when I can no longer take my Miata out for a spin in anger.

what? why would those be problems? everyone knows energy-efficient robots will take over the earth and presumably either kill the human population, or convert them into energy-efficient robots as well.
