Staying under the radar...

But if I do get flamed, I try not to let it bother me, and take it as practice for my future writing career...
If you go under the assumption that trolls are moranic losers who live in their parent's basements, or are 10 yr olds with no babysitters, it lessens the blow of their words.

That and not taking yourself too seriosly. XDD

First step in not being flamed - be right and prove it.
Second step in not being flamed - know your topic, have examples and evidence backed up to prove your point.

That's about it really just make sure you know your stuff, and simply walk away if the argument/discussion enters a loop, or the person you are having a discussion with starts taking things out of context and/or begins using circular reasoning.

Full Metal Jacket reference?
Would it be anything else?
Good quote. Although it goes "there are many like it, but this one is my own".

This is my rifle this is my gun, this is for killing, this is for fun. Take that.

Lurking. Does wonders, my friend.
This and don't say anything hugely opinionated(without a backing argument), aggressive, or uninformed.

All you can do, really. You can't avoid being flamed every once and a while.

I haven't been flamed in a while thankfully. I'm just curious.

A good deterrent for me is to include an emoticon or sarcastic statement after the actual message to de-escalate things. I actually was just called a troll on this classic music thread. I wasn't being serious, but, eh.

I have a way with words, there were a few times where some one tried to flame me out for something, and it resulted in them apologizing to me. Which is a good thing though, not many are willing to apologize to some one on the internet, I respect that a lot...

I love debates on the other hand... I just wish more people knew how to do it, or even consider doing it instead of flaming. It's a lot more effective, and a good debate can be enjoyed by both sides.

Hasn't happened to me yet. At least from what I can remember.

I must be immune to it........................or people just ignore me.

Don't post when you have nothing to contribute. Telling a person they're wrong because you disagree doesn't help. Telling a person you disagree because of fact 1 and 2 generally leads to a discussion, not a flame war.

Secondly, shut up. If the other person isn't going to budge and makes that pretty clear, stop trying. You can't win 'em all, no matter how right you are. Let idiots be idiots.

I just explain my position and why I think the way I do. Or thats what I would do, but I haven't really been flamed yet. But I wonder what it takes to push people over the edge...

I didn't find Legend of Zelda Ocerina of Time to be all that great.

Lets see if that does anything.

You bastard! Oh well, Majora's Mask was better anyways.

OT: Don't be a douche when you present your opinions. I find that most who get flamed aren't getting flamed because of their dissenting opinions, but because they were acting like a dick when posting their dissenting opinions.

Oh you said how not to get flamed? I have no idea.
If you want to prove a point, perhaps you should post something that the forum actually disagrees with...

By being respectful at all times and if I do flame something, I have something to support it.

Everyday I see someone here get pounded into the dust for typing his/her opinion. It becomes very annoying very quickly when you are flamed upon. Is there any specific technique you use that is actually successful and allows you to retain your opinion while still throwing it out there?
Usually, when someone unjustly flames me, I break out my time-tested counter-argument:
START
Chill the fuck out. (Explain why they should chill the fuck out).
END
Seriously. Say that, and you win.
Version 1)
START:
"Cool story, bro".
END

Version 2)
START:
"You mad."
END

These have proven themselves time and again for me. Or I just post a polite and intelligent response, if the argument is valid.

I actually liked LttP, and the Oracle games for GameBoy better than OoT and MM. But that's just me... And I dont know WHAT the hell they were thinking with WW/PH (yes, I consider them the same cellshaded BS). But again, that's just me.

OT: Take advice from Steve Martin's "Grandmother's Song:"
Be pompous, obese, and eat cactus,
Be dull, and boring, and omnipresent,
Criticize things you don't know about,
Be oblong and have your knees removed.

Be tasteless, rude, and offensive,
Live in a swamp and be three dimensional,
Put a live chicken in your underwear,
Get all excited and go to a yawning festival.

...

Wait, wha?

Posts like that by me generally get hated upon. People just need to understand that I know more about things than them! *Breathes a sigh of contempt for his fellow man*

Yes, I do argue it out, but it never goes anywhere, it always ends up a continuous volley of opinions and facts to back them up. <-----annoying part is that-a-way.

GTFO the Internet.

Yes Im serious. This is the Internet. Someone somewhere will not like what you say and flame you. Or a troll decides to have a little... "fun" and flame you for the hell of it.
