How do you name your character?

I usually use a corruption of my own name, either using a shortened version or a different countries version. (EX: Raymundo)
Either that or something from a name generator or something resulted from button mashing until I come up with something that sounds nice.

I have a few stock names, most are RP characters I've made or a friend's made.
Benjamin Cromwell (Known normally as just Cromwell)
Benjamin Crawford
Johny Voorhees
Adrian Crown
Josh Shepard
Or I just use fairly generic names.

When I got Pokemon Blue I named my character William (my full name)
When I got gold I named him Will (my name shortened)
When I got Ruby I named him Bert (what my dad's always called me... hell, even I don't know why)
When I got Pearl I named him Crash (nickname my best made gave me in our old band)
So that's the progression of my game names. Now, in any RPG etc I name my character Crash. Unless it's a game with a reccomended name, like Link in Zelda or Tidus in FFX
After I'm done with the 'Crash' playthrough, I then make fat male characters and call 'em 'Fat Tits'

I can never think of a good one... I always name them after a celebrity because I'm crap at coming up with original names. Like my Fallout 3 character is Keanu, my morbidly obese hamster in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box is named Norm, and my Maple Story character is named JonLovitz. Cookies if you can guess who I named the hamster after.
I generally just think of something on the spot. A couple of times I've actually sat down and brainstormed character names, but that was for characters I knew I'd be creating but couldn't actually do so yet (new Guild Wars expansion), and those instances were technically during an accounting class (sometimes I would write entire short stories during class because it was so boring).

The first time I play through pretty much everything but Final Fantasy, I'll give the main character my actual name. Whether or not I use another name on another playthrough is entirely up to chance.
I usually use my own name or a different variation of it.

OT: I tend to just go with the preset/canon names for people. If none are available (which usually doesn't happen for me), I'd either go with some name that sounds like it would fit my character, or just Daze. If it's just to name a game file, then I'd use Daze or my actual name.
