Namaka is for fantasy games and such.
Basher is for shooters and RPGs like fallout3
sometimes I name a character "I say" so that NPC's sound like the rooster from looney tunes when they talk too me example:

"Basher would you retrieve that item for me"
"I say, would you retrieve that item for me

All depends on the game. Here, lemme give you a rundown.

In all Fallout games, I name my characters Jack. Jack the Vault Dweller, Jack the Chosen One, and Jack the Lone Wanderer. It became a funny running gag, though lately I've been using Bob, because the nickname of FalloutBob sounds like a guy with a Beowulf complex.

For reasons I cannot explain, I always refer to Bartz in FF5 as Joe. (It might have to do something with a different character of mine.) And I abused the Namingway like hell in FF4.

In Shadow Madness, I renamed the worker robot HARV-5 as REAPER-X. Sounded cooler.

Persona games! In the original Persona, main character was Drake, after one of my coolest hero-characters. Protagonist for P3 was Haruko Kuroda, after a zombie-hunting psychic I made. P4's guy: Evan Ramsey, because the glasses made him look much like him. (SMT: Nocturne, speaking of Atlus games, received the character naming of Kazu "Ricochet" Harada, also because he resembled the guy.)

I think the point of this is that this is very influenced by characters I make up or write about.

I usually use "Zhandax", "Jason" or something mroe creative if I'm on Oblivion, like "E'fan" or "Deragon".

Oh, and on Buzz, "Arse".

I usually just come up with something on the spot. Like with my Escapist username.

I usually name my characters after combinations of names from literary and/or movie characters that I like. I once named a character "Morro Kushana" while I was on a Miyazaki kick.

I have and handfull of names I name my chars (mainly MMO's) and alts which are normally the same in every game unless someone has already taken it which annoys me as I thought I was the only person with the name, lol.

If there's a per-set name, I'll use that.
If not, I'll use Chizz.
If I can't use that, I get bored and go do something else.

I think of some fantasy sounding name usually with a Z,X, or V some where in it. My favorite one that I ever came up with was Chaboo. I had been playing FFX and just changed the P in wakka's brother's name chapoo to a B.

I usually use the name "density", because one day me and a friend were walking in the park, and I had to use the nasty public restrooms (it was horrible...) after that was over, on the door while exiting the bathroom, someone had spraypainted "density" on the door in the coolest letters I've ever seen.

From that day on my Steam name and every other name is density.

Usually my own name, unless there's an online element, in which case I use the uber name of awesomeness that you see before you and slightly to your left.
