My last name is Lai, pronounced like 'Lie'. Every single person, without fail has pronounced it 'Lay'. I've given up correcting them and just accepted everyone pronouncing my last name as 'Lay'.

I snap on the inside but i manage to stay calm on the outside because its happened my entire life it seems no one can understand (BR-e-MEN) they always say something like Brandon or Broman and if they spell it they get really crazy, Breemman is the craziest I've seen but people usually just miss spell it Breman but i think its somewhat my fault and how i say it.
Simular to my name that (Brennan) most of the time people think its Brown =/ But yeah I've had the Brandon, Browman, Breeman (my cheese super power ater ego), Breadnan...and so on.
Wow and i thought my name was bad at least people make an attempt. Who the F names their kid Brown?

Yes. I don't know what is more annoying, people spelling my name "Stephen" instead of "Stefan" or people pronouncing it "Stefaun". Just sound it out, "ste" then "fan", it is not that difficult. These days I am surprised when someone who I met recently gets my name right the second time I see them.

Stoltzfus

Try to say it and you will probably get it wrong. I don't know the number of times that people have pronounced it wrong. Understandably, unless you know German, it isn't pronounced the way it's spelled. I have a hunch that the spelling was changed to be easier to right here in America. I think the last "s" should be the double-s letter that the German language has (sorry don't know how to type it on my keyboard).

But it isn't pronounced Stoltz-fuss, its pronounced Stoltz-foos as in Fusball (damn this keyboard!).

I've come to just accept that people misprounce it. I only ever correct them when its important. It doesn't help that there was another Stoltzfus in my school who pronounced it the other way...

People always misspell mine. It's Lileth with an e, but everyone spells it the usual way with an i. I don't really get mad or anything though, because my last name is way worse for pronunciation and spelling, and no one ever gets those right.

Both my first and last name are annoyingly difficult to spell properly so I got used to it pretty quickly.

I don't think I've ever attended a school or had a job where my name was spelled properly on any official documents.

No one's spelt "Chris" wrong since I was in primary school, and I was too busy jamming stuff up my nose to get angry at them for spelling it wrong.

Kinda bugs me when people call me "Christopher", but that is technically my name so I don't say anything about it. It's usually only teachers and old people, anyway.

Everyone knows Lewis and Clark, my last name is Clarke.

People never put the e on the end unless I tell them.

If it's a stranger, say someone taking my order that has to call me back up, I just make sure it phonetically sounds like my name, which is Darron. So I'll accept dare-on, dare-in, some people say dar-on, something to that extent. It's also a semi-unusual spelling so I'm quite forgiving. I do get irked when I'm misheard as Dillon or Derek or Damon but I try to be cool and gently correct them.

My own family disagrees on it's pronunciation, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I correct people when they misspell it though.

Typical.

What I don't understand is why people think its such a reach to call me Billy or Bill from my real name, William? Those are my nicknames...I don't get why people don't believe me sometimes when I say they can call me Bill.
You get that? Seriously?
Common sense isn't very common, is it?
Yup...I really do. And I get it a lot more than I'd like to admit. I don't understand...

In this world, common sense is very hard to come by.

I just politely say in a raised voice "No, JADE J-A-D-E" it gets mistaken for Jane a lot and it actually really does piss me off.

When I have to tell people how to spell 'Erin' I do get a little annoyed.
Especially when something like 'Eirin' comes along.

i get it all the time. my first name is Graham and over the course of my life its been spelled in really awkward ways such as Greyham

also my surname is Lindsay so ive had Lindsey alot but what frustrates me is linzi (ive almost hit someone for giving me an Xmas card)

not to mention the amount of people who think my surname is Leslie that pisses me off to, then when i correct them they say "oh yeah i remember it was a girls name". they better prepare for a faceful of fist

I pretend it didn't happen (unless they ask if they did it right). It happens all the time with my family name.

My last name descends from French, but it often is mispronounced as a Spanish term. The correct way to say it is "Voy-ulz," but I've heard it said "Voy-lez."

Either way, if somebody mispronounces my name, it's an honest mistake on their part, which I correct for them in a friendly manner.

However, if you manage to mispronounce my first name, "Zach" there is something wrong with you.
