I am one of those people who have a lot of trouble sleeping. What are some ways that help someone get to sleep faster, or more comfortably?

I have trouble sleeping too, but that's usually cus I find a way to always say "im not gonna go to sleep just yet", Ile watch tv, play games, daydream about other games, read shit on the web, watch anime, whatever it takes to have an agenda.

So for me, I have to actively cut off all distractions, I shut off my TV, hide the remote somewhere high up, power off my laptop and put the charger away, so on so fourth, just anything I can to make getting up and doin shit way too much work.

...Should probly get on that right now.

I wish I could help but I have the same problem... Apparently laying with your hands above your head, then slowly moving down to your sides and eventually rolling over works.

Well first, you have to get this piece of furniture called a bed. Then, a pillow. And it's that easy. No but seriously though I also sometimes have trouble sleeping. Advice would be appreciated. I'm suggesting you do some kind of meditating. Or you could just take deep breaths, that seems to help.

I think you will find these steps quite helpful:

Step 1: Close your eyes
Step 2: Go to sleep
Step 3: ????
Step 4: PROFIT!

You forgot Step 1.5: Fail to sleep for ages, resulting in searching for answers on the internet.

If only this were true, we'd all be allot richer.

Or in the op's case, allot poorer.

Well, try eating and getting full. Preferably something warm.

Or, you could go the Jackass route and go with some good 'ol Blunt force trauma.

DISCLAMER: Obviously, I'm not seriously suggesting you do this. That would be stupid.

I'm a terrible sleeper myself, on average it takes me more than 4 hours to actually fall asleep. Which really can be frustrating, for instance when I know that I've got something big coming up the next day. I get annoyed and ultimately agressive, and as you can guess this doesn't quite make it easier to sleep.
Tried over a dozen types of medication, from herbal hippie stuff to hormone pills to really nasty side effect stuff, but none of it really helped.

Drink warm milk with a little bit of honey in it. Makes me sleepy right away. Also works great when you have a cold/bad cough/sore throat.

For me i have bad sleeping habits, like extremly. But lately i have been getting better, i think its all about routine. What i did was stay awake the entire night then the next night get a good time to sleep and start a routine. Eg. Do some weights or something, take a shower, drink warm milk put a single song that you dub your "sleep song" mine is (My Delirium by LadyHawke) and then casually sleep maybe make up a story in your head. Well thats my idea.

I generally have to stick in a movie or show that I love, but already know all of. Entertaining enough to keep me from thinking but repetitive enough for me to not stay focussed.

Plus it gives my son something to watch if he wakes up during the night, keeping him from entertaining himself by throwing things at me while I sleep. Still get the occasional empty bottle to the side of the head though.

Use the forks. It usually works. Unless there are Ninja-Pirates around.
You rang?

OT: I lie in the dark with the lights off, curtains closed and every electrical item turned off.
I sleep fine when I'm in silence, but the moment there's noise other than my own breathing and occasional rustle of my sheets because someone walks past on the landing outside my room, or coughs loudly, or opens the door, I'm fully alert and need ten minutes again.

I must try this.

On a more serious note, never go to sleep with a knot in your stomach, try to feel good before going to bed. Itt's easier to relax. Also think about something - like how you're going to progress a game you're currently playing or so. Eventually you'll get lost in thought and suddenly you wake up the morning after.

i find the best thing that helps me get to sleep is a fan.

a fan blowing on me keeps me cool and makes staying under my doona more comfortably. A fan also blocks out noises like traffic out side or music from the party down the street or your dad watching TV with the volume on 90 cause he is going deaf.
