Honestly, if you aren't opposed to it, marijuana works wonders. I can have trouble sleeping too, but on the nights when I smoke, I sleep extremely well.

while eating does make you drowsy, in the long run stuffing yourself before you need to sleep probably isn't the way to go.

I sometimes have trouble sleeping and for me the best thing I can do is just think about my breathing, it really clears your mind of everything else, just follow your breath in and out, works a treat, well if what's keeping you up is that up is can't switch off.

I must try this.

On a more serious note, never go to sleep with a knot in your stomach, try to feel good before going to bed. Itt's easier to relax. Also think about something - like how you're going to progress a game you're currently playing or so. Eventually you'll get lost in thought and suddenly you wake up the morning after.
This. I always think about something good coming up, or something to do with games, next thing you know, it's morning!

Just once in my life, I want to spend the night this way.

But yeah, I'm a pretty light sleeper. Honestly, the best sleep advice I can give is to try and stay physically active. If you don't do anything all day, it's going to be hard to get to sleep. Beyond that, just keep your sleeping area quiet by any means necessary.

...no, seriously. Punch people if they are keeping you up. They'll get the message.

I take sleep very seriously.

I lay on my stomach with my pillow over my head, and a cat sitting on the pillow.
It never fails me.

I have insomnia, so I barely sleep. I'm lucky to get one or two hours of sleep in a night. Nothing so far has helped me sleep better or easier.

Gotta say... that would be really funny to see.

I must agree with this man. I've had trouble sleeping all my life and a bit of pot is invaluable for the one morning a week I have to be up by 730.

Aside from all the other fun little suggestions (I'll most definately be trying out that blunt trauma one in a day or so :p ), I'd say this would work best:

Set a regular routine: Go to bed at the same time every day, get up at the same time every day. Even if you can't sleep, get up at that time, burn out, go to bed, sleep like a rock till the alarm screams at ya.

As for assistance in falling asleep: Technical manuals for car engines or math books I find often work too (joking, joking...), but in all seriousness, I'd recommend some music. Put on something relaxed, like Origa, a russian singer

Or some of Nightwish' softer stuff:

Or, for the crazy nut like me, Disturbed

Hope that helps! (And yes, I seriously do fall asleep to Disturbed. Honestly have issues falling asleep if there isn't music of some kind in the background)

I've been sleeping well lately, but most of the time I wake up feeling pretty shit. I can never get comfortable either, complete pain in the arse.

I'm told so, but sadly the cat won't sit on the pillow if the light is on.

When they find a cure for insomnia that doesn't involve prescription meds with side effects from hell (or when they legalize pot) then I might be able to sleep myself. Til then, well... I hate all of you that can pass out at the drop of a hat.

On silk sheets rolling naked in money.

No but seriously I sleep like a stone. Lately I've been exercising for 2½ hours every day at the gym, which means I've got more energy overall, but also means that when I lie down to sleep - I'm all gone.

I usually end up thinking things over in my head, like most people do. I also hear screams and my name shouted over and over by different people so I drown out my mind by playing music. Loud enough that I can't hear myself, but not so loud that it keeps me awake.

Also showering helps me feel sleepy, when my hair is still wet that is.
