Jim Grin/Vitagen, if you look at the underlying AdAge article that this is referencing, AdAge is offering the *total* views the top content creators on YouTube have gotten, which are in the 60 million to 200 million plus range. We are comparing apples to apples - Yahtzee's total views to their total views.
AH. Well done, Yahtzee. Start a cult!

Three cheers for Yahtzee! Hip-hip- aw, who am I kidding....
This might explain why my Kilplixisms [http://www.youtube.com/user/kilplixism] can be slow to load at times.

Yes we certainly love it.

Also I need to make sure not to post this comment until 5 minutes after the article was published.
Five minutes, right on the button. :D Thanks for the chuckle.

I kind of wonder how Yahtzee feels about his success through Zero Punctuation. Its catapulted him to semi-famous and provided him lots of cool opportunities like his Mana Bar and book, which based on his descriptions of his life prior to making Zero Punctuation would not have happened otherwise.

Regardless Yahtzee's got a good thing going which I'm sure he's aware of. I hope he keeps at it for a long long time.

VIEWS (ALL-TIME): 585,136,315
Not only did he beat Yahtzee handily, but that's over half a billion. Actually.... Fred's top of the list. "Nigahiga" comes in second at 546 million, whoever that is. That can't be right. Did someone go back in time and change the past so we get the "bad" future? This just can't be the right universe.

Okay, looking over this list, is there some sort of other Internet out there I haven't been on? I haven't heard of ANY of these other than Fred, and even that's only because someone posted a rant about him where I saw it that could be best described as pure, distilled hatred.

You know, it's days like this that make me want to hang myself just to get off this planet. I think I don't because of a mix of survival instinct and a belief that I shouldn't kill myself unless I can take a lot of stupid people with me.
Well fuck. This is no longer a world I want to live in.

He beat that Fred thing, right? Please tell me that Fred isn't one of the few that surpassed ZP.
Thats what I'm thinking as well. I really hope something as retarded as Fred didn't surpass him...

Then again, a video practically every week for 2 or 3 years... I'd rather see the numbers for one individual video.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I quickly did the math:
If every vid had the same amount of viewers, not counting the ones on youtube, every episode has 1362500 views.

So, it's not that bad, but it's not as groundbreaking as it may seem.

imho, still the best escapist feature though.

Well Yahtzee does have a lot of ZP videos by this point, but yes, a ton of people watch them. Hell, I believe you guys have publicly stated that your traffic went up four times when you brought ZP on board. I'll freely admit that ZP is the reason I started coming to The Escapist, but quite frankly, you guys have kept me a regular reader with your excellent content.

The Escapist newsletter is a highlight of my week, and I've more recently started watching Movie Bob's excellent capsule review videos, and the Extra Credits series is fast becoming a favourite of mine with some very nice thoughts on game design. I enjoy John Funk's View from the Road column, and on Friday I always look forward to Shamus Young's Experienced Points. I <3 Shamus. :)

I really want to rant about how mainstream youtube stars are just zany hipster twats with no talent who make pop culture references who's entire fan base consists of twatty 14-year-old girls.

Oh wait, I just did.

I'm glad Yahtzee stays away from that territory.
I bet you didn't start using Twatty as a verb until you started watching Yahtzee
No, I come from the strange and mystical land of Britain, where people use the word twat and twatty without ironic sentiment.

Nice try, though.

he is the reason i found the Escapist :p

Stayed for the quirks of the Staff and their articles. Plus this is the only site i can visit where the news about what matters to me is dished out in chunks i can digest on a daily basis. The getting a message when you get quoted is nice too :D

And as if by some off internet magic my copy arrived today the day before I left for University, yay for me!

It's enjoying it a lot at the moment. Very compelling and cinematic.

True but surely the amount of video's count? You could compare all his videos to a guy who's made three short ones and say your comparing the same thing, all of Yahtzee's to all of his
Someone who gets 60+million hits for a single video (or a short series) wouldn't be something you'd really want to compare with Yahtzee anyway - not that these people haven't been successful at what they've done (they have), but they're doing something different to the serially successful (the ones who get big audiences every week)

So even if - as seems to be the cry - you calculated mean hits per video 'for fair comparison', you'd still have to remove all the outliers. Single videos which were massively popular due to being topical and well presented, for example, often get ridiculous numbers of views - but the authors never create anything again, so it's just not comparable to people who are producing series'.
True, so in all fairness it really isn't comparable unless you look at other series' of this nature and the amount of views that they get each week.
