The pile of Steam games will just keep going on and on.

The curse of the Steam [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/steam] backlog is too many games and not enough time to play them all. Before you know it, your list of unfinished games just keeps growing with every Steam sale and Humble Bundle. If you ever wanted to know approximately how many hours it would take to complete the games in your Steam library, a site called SteamLeft is here to make you feel ashamed.

HowLongToBeat [http://steamleft.com/], which takes in the number of hours people say it took them to play the game as well as how they were playing (e.g. completing the main story, completing the main story and extra content, earning every achievement, etc.). HowLongToBeat then takes the averages of each to provide an estimate for the length of the game.

To get your estimate for your library, just enter your Steam ID; your profile must be publicly viewable.

The funniest part of it all is SteamLeft gives you suggestions on how you could spend that time instead. For example, you could listen to "Be A Man from Mulan over 7,000 times. You could watch the Star Wars [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/star%20wars] original trilogy 90 times. You could drive from coast-to-coast in the U.S. five times. Or maybe you'd rather watch the entire Hobbit trilogy 38 times, in my case. Maybe run a marathon 70 times?

Of course, the curse is that we'll all continue to get new games before we're finished with the older ones so will we ever complete them all? According to an 36% of games in all users' libraries have never been played [http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/04/introducing-steam-gauge-ars-reveals-steams-most-popular-games/], and only 17% are played for one hour.

How long would it take you to finish all of your Steam games?

It would probably take me about 200, because I really only have a handful of non-multiplayer games and I'm particularly slow.

But Question: Why is this in a section labeled news? This is at best a personal blog, and at worst, its paid advertising.

Look, Kotaku may be Luke Plunket's personal tumbler page which is fine for them, but The Escapist is overall a pretty interesting publication with a lot of talented writers. You have plenty of space for staff blog or even individual staff blogs and other places you can put things that AREN'T NEWS, but wow am I sick of reading personal opinionated rants in a section labeled news.

And before anyone starts harassing me, this has nothing to do with "ethics" or any annoying side argument that became popular in 2014 that cursed year. I am simply a paying customer at the escapist who would honestly prefer some better labeling in regards to content.

I have about 20 games on Steam that work for Mac out of the 22 I have total. The other 2 are games that I got from bundles.

Beat Hazard, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life Deathmatch, and Deathmatch Source cannot be 'beaten' or completed. And those I haven't played in ages. It's safe to say that I've beaten most of the games that I own on my library. Out of the ones that I have, The Talos Principle, Wasteland 2, Torchlight, and The Bard's Tale are the only ones I haven't completed. By the way, Talos Principle = Fantastic.

But seriously, that's not too bad and with almost 900 hours [http://postimg.org/image/6a9o4kibt/] on record I don't feel entirely ashamed.
900 hours? I have more than that just on SKYRIM! Try to keep up!

I don't want to share my name from HowLongToBeat but I'm on the top list for backlogs on that site. And I have years worth of games to play.

Well, I'm about to start CIV5 for the first time, so......

Though to be fair, I have a decent chunk of games on steam I've finished or have given up on, and some of those finished games I will play again.

I have over 500 games on steam, but pretty much every even semi decent RPG, action rpg etc. Many games have over 100 hours in them already, and tons more that I have not played with well over 100 hours worth of play time. Add in DDO, NWNO and other online games (many of which have thousands of hours in them...I was in the DDO beta for instance and paid $15 a month for the first 9 years).

Even a very low estimate of 20 hours per game would put me at 10,000 hours to play all of my games, and I'm pretty sure it would be more then that. If I had to play JUST games i have on steam right now, 10 hours a day, I would estimate a good 1,200 days of nonstop playing (so a good 3-4 years) to catch up.

Thing is I have a few hundred ps3 and xbox360 games, a good 20+ Wii games etc to play through as well, including many RPGs. I also have none steam rpgs and other MMOs.

I figure I could play games all day long for 10+ hours a day, without including MMOs, for a good 10+ years right now....before catching up. Yet, I'll still keep buying the new games that come out and interest me as I want to support the industry and buying games is more of my hobby now then actually playing them.

So, yeah. Might be time to start working off some games. I've only played and completed about a third of my games I reckon.

It would take exactly zero hours and zero minutes to play through all my Steam games. Then again I don't have a Steam account so I suppose that's kind of cheating.

or Travel from the sun to Pluto at the speed of light 162 times.

Eh, still doable. I really need to start playing a bunch of these, problem is I know that once I start I can focus on little else so that is an awesome sucky curse in and of itself.

5005 hours.

Well, I know the nicely symmetrical number is off by around 100-200 hours, due to playing in offline mode for almost 2 years.
And probably at least 50 hours could be safely subtracted from Humble Bundle games I never intend on touching.
Guess I can only have enough time to beat Legend of Zelda 513 times now.

Really though, it's 208.5 days. Not impossible, especially as I buy less and less at each sale, and don't tend to go through each game in my library fully (considering some I got on PS+ for free in the meantime)

Well I could watch all of Avatar: the Last Airbender 65 times in the time it would take me to complete my Steam library. Maybe I'll just do that instead :D

Already watched all the way through 4 times after all...

1131 hours. That's just over 47 days. I'd have to play an average of 3.2 hours a day to clean up by the end of the year. Taking into account that there are some games that came in bundles which I have no intention of playing, that's actually doable!

It would take me 2348 hours or 97 days, 20 hours and 41 minutes.

Enough time to watch the original trilogy 339 times.
Or make that webapp 117 times.

1430 hours. Apparently enough to fly around the world 35 times.

That was... Scary... To say the least. I don't even know... Then again, there are things on my steam library where the 'play time' stat says 430 hours played... Ugh...

i use howlongtobeat website regullary. what i notice is that its data does not fit my playstyle. some games i finnish faster than their "rushed" while others take longer than their "leisure" time. Though im generally a peron that likes to take its time, and when it comes to games like civilization - easily hundreds of hours. and by that i mean 740 hours in civ 4.

The website claims it would take me 2008 hours to beat my library [http://steamleft.com/span/76561198105601356].

While i can safely say at least 10 games in that list i never intend to play (came with bundles) i am aware i have a lot of games i want to play and too little time for them.

I guess ill just have to skip those 443 marathons i havent been planning on.

I dont think you can watch porn fast enough to watch all the clips that are constantly being added to websites i regularly visit.

Enough time to:
- Watch the entirety of Star Trek (all TV shows and movies) 1 times
- Read The Silmarillion 6 times
- Watch the entire Futurama series 21 times
- Watch Star Wars: A New Hope 547 times
- Walk 3,311 miles

I wish there was some way to mark games as already completed. It seems like the app takes my entire library, regardless of them being completed or not...
