How short is too short?

Lately, especially in the older generations among us, people have been complaining about how many of the young women and girls of various ages have started dressing in outfits that are shorter and lower than before. Almost every girl I know has a pair of short shorts, and there was even a girl at school yesterday who was wearing shorts that pretty much had her ass hanging right out of them. (A crude description, but accurate.)

Basically, I would like to know where you draw the line at acceptable, Escapists. Also, when does expressing oneself through clothing end, and offending the public begin? Where do you sit on this issue?

I kid, I kid. To qualify as shorts, they have to cover more than the person's underwear does, otherwise it's just an exceptionally large belt.

but from MY standpoint (which again doesn't matter any more than the person who wears the short item) there shouldn't be any length too short really

Well, honestly, people need to wear what looks best on them. I don't want a larger woman walking around with a dress that goes to the middle of her thighs. And short shorts are fine, as long as it covers your ass, we're fine.

I actually don't think shorts can be short enough. My reason may not be what you are expecting though. I find that woman who walk around dressed as whores are not the people I want to talk to, so it makes my job easier. If you are looking to attract that form of attention from men, you will not get my attention. There is a tasteful way to wear clothes and carry yourself.

If I can see their underwear, it's too short. That's for woman. For men, if I can see your underwear, pull your freaking pants up and get a belt or something.

In all honesty, I can see where adults and especially parents can get a tad shocked by this. I have a Latin Teacher who claims that if you put your hands by your side and your tallest finger is farther down then the cloth, then it's too short.

That sounds waaay too short. It's about common courtesy, the general public has a right over one person because it affects far more people if the one person can't manage to just behave appropriately.

And it doesn't need to have anything to do with morals or religion or anything like that; the simple fact is that clothing like that is incredibly distracting, especially in a school setting.

I for one enjoy being able to actually think or concentrate on work/school once in a while

OT: I'm frequently annoyed when girls wear shorts that literally stop at the crotch, or tops that stop above the navel. Call me old fashioned, but if you want to look like a whore, you're going to be treated like one.
