It will end after they have released their next crazy money sucking black hole (which May be World of Starcraft or maybe a Diablo MMO... just speculating). But as far as the story goes... maybe the whole WoW world will realize its lame and just go away or go all emo-style on its self.
I'm willing to bet £15 of my hard earned, finest English moneys that you don't know even half of the Warcraft story.

Sargeras returns from his holiday in the Twisting Nether and stomps the fuck out of Azeroth.

Then in Warcraft 4 (the RTS), we get to collect what little people we have left and start rebuilding all over again, lead by Rhonin the biggest goddamn Marty Stu to ever be written into literature.

KNAAAAAAAK!

All players will simultaneously recieve the same message "GET A LIFE" along with a nice tally of how many hours they played and get special ranks depending on how long they played going from Loser to Nerd all the way until the coveted Virgin 4 life.
That's clever, did you make that up all by yourself or did you need mommy's help?

Awww but what he said is funny because its true. My 24 year old virgin friend spends more time being a female dwarf rogue than talking to real people...so....evidence tells the story.

No, I'm married and have kids, if I knew even a quarter of the War Craft story I would never have accomplished those feats.

There are at least three people in my guild who are married and have children.

evidence tells the story.
Yes, indeed it does.

WoW is kept static to not upset the people who enjoyed the Warcraft lore. Look at the latest expansion, it just introduced a place which was fully explored in Warcraft 3. When they run out of things that already exist in the lore and are going on with the story I demand a Warcraft 4, when I played WoW they were already starting to fuck shit up.

I agree with some others in this thread... there are enough major antagonists left to last Blizzard at least 3 more expansions, and if they really were ever to end it (possibly due to World of Starcraft coming out) they'd probably have big daddy Sargeras show up, laugh at the petty pursuits of the entire cosmos that have transpired during his absence and then blow the whole thing up for poops and giggles.

With an impossible acheivement that would somehow be completed and break down the game servers.

WoW will end with FIRE! The (digital) fire of a thousand servers being cyber-torched. By me and my other WoW haters. *evil cackle*

WoW lore is running dry, its true, but honestly I think they will just write more now. Thats probably what they are working on. All WoW has been so far is the tying up of loose ends from Warcraft lore.

So what happens next? I'd imagine they would either dig up a section of lore and take it for a run for its money in yet another expansion pack. OR they might write something completely fresh, loosely related and come out with WoW 2.

Then again they could end it, and go back to working on their other games... or a Diablo MMORPG...

when everyone realizes that they are overly bored with it and just log on because they dont know what else to do, then they run around in dalaran for about 8 minutes before deciding to fly around on their mount and grief horde/alliance. so yeah, when they realize it's boring.
though i imagine it actually being more along the lines of maybe 6 years from now, after 2 new expansions, one featuring the emerald dream and the other with sargeras, and then it will slowly fade off like most MMO's do after their time is done.

It'll end with each player's character getting crushed by the money (in pennies, no less) that Blizzard have basically robbed from them.
