Like the one shot one kill golden gun your holding?
Exactly like that. Nothing's sweeter than firing a gun effortlessly like a ballerena and gracefully poping a cap in someones eyeball.

Or the EZ gun in MGS3 and 4 that puts to sleep every thing in one hit with infinite ammo making the game retardly easy.

To me, a satisfying weapon is one that fires exploding barnyard animals. I'm prepared to overlook a gun's flaws, as long as it fires nuclear powered cows at super sonic speed.

Now if THAT gun doesn't turn the tide of a battle, I don't know what will.

Generally speaking in FPS terms, I have to say that a "good" weapon for me is any weapon with which I can wreak catastrophic levels of havoc on both the enemy team and my own. I don't care if it's got a single shot and respawns once every summer solstice, if pulling that trigger will absolutely destroy anything and everything that moves, and hopefully parts of the game's integral code, I am happy. :3

Take for instance the Redeemer. In one of my stints playing Unreal Tournament in the computer labs back in high school, I managed to snag it on the two-fort map (y'know, TF2 has just corrupted my tastes so much that any map with two buildings and a gauntlet is "two-fort" so nyeh). As my allies are battling in the center of the enemy base, I leap from the tallest tower and pull the trigger right before hitting the ground, detonating more friendlies than enemies. It was a good day.

First of all, it has to make an outstandingly fitting noise. I have played games with AK-47s, -74s, whatever, and they never sound right. I have seen videos (who hasn't) of these monstrosities being fired, and it is a deafening crack. Most games have a serious problem with their gun noises. Counter Strike, however, got it right. Most of the guns' sound alone could probably kill people.

Secondly, if it has bullets, and you shoot them at an unarmored/lightly armored enemy, I want him/her to die. Even if the enemy has body armor, the bullets should at least kill with one headshot. Seriously. I have had enough of this shooting a single enemy a hundred times to get them to bite it. *cough* Timeshift *cough*

Thirdly, if the gun is unique to that game, I want it to be useful, not gimmicky. Think gravity gun.

Noisy, makes a big splatter, and rapid fire. Mmm.
That is the best gun of all time a machine gun with a fricken chainsaw!

But the P-90 is probably the gun that fill sout all of your things for "ammo supply" ect therefore is amazing =D

Only on lower levels. Infact, even when i played on the lower levels i still had to shoot them in either the Head, butt, or crotch to knock them out in one hit.

Knew it. Golden gun is okay but EZ gun isn't c'mon you fell right for it like the MGS4 comment guys (oh yea...) did when Yahtzee said it.

Or, is it a combination of the above?

So, what do you think is required?
That one, you need a good balance with weapons, otherwise they'll have obvious weak points which will hinder you in the long run.

Hi there, long time reader first time poster.
I really like the red6 in resident evil 4. When you max it out its accurate and powerful. And it looks pretty cool too.

I would define a satisfyign weapon as...

An assault rifle, big bullets, so you can practically feel the impact of the badguy splattering the wall.

And some form of secodary fire that makes a rocket lancher look like a pussy cat.

To quote the merchant - "Guns ain't always about shootin', it's realoadin' too. You'll know what I'm talking about."

Basically, loading the Red6 (or was it the "Red9"? I can't remember) also made you look like a badass, but it didn't take as long as the Broken Butterfly.

What makes weapons 'Satisfying'

the asthetic look and the gut renching feel it gives you when you land a hit with it.

that is what makes a weapon satisfying.

when you fling a washing machine at a combine trooper you just Feel the pain that he ragdolls with the heavy peice of machineary.

It was red9.

In response to the thread, I would say a loud bang and a good firing speed. I like it to be thin though, those clunky rocket launchers are ugly. I like the Shotgun in Resident Evil 4 because it would make a load sound and destroy everything you shot.

The most satisfying weapon?
One that has the potential to be hard hitting, have a fair ammo clip, and requires a good amount of talent or skill to master. One that you can say "yeah, I worked for that, and now that I've worked for it I can use it to a sick dangerous degree"
In other words, almost every single weapon in the Unreal Series, especially unreal 3. Mastering any weapon in that game gives you a monster to unleash, because every weapon is balanced so well.
Now if I had to go for an instant gratification weapon? Proxy Mines. Hands Down.
Funny, Fatal, and with a slight touch of random chance, "just to keep you on your feet" If you don't know what I'm talking about; look up Chaotic Dreams or ChaosUT Proxy Mines. Fun fun weapon.
