How would you define a 'satisfying' weapon?

Weapons should do what they look like they do. A shotgun that doesn't even stagger somebody when hit in the chest from point blank range is a good example of what we don't want. The same applies to tiny and useless .220 pistols that somehow have more recoil then a 120mm cannon.

In RTS: If it creates a screen obscuring explosion but only harms one or two of the twenty units in there, the designers should feel ashamed(Glares at Rise of Legends and it's, well, everything)

The most satisfying weapon is the one that makes the controller rumble when it shoots its load.

Mmm...satisfying...

Anyhow, I feel the most satisfying thing you can do in a FPS is take some guy out with a shotgun to the face. It just sums up exactly what FPSs are all about. Firepower. You're not there to think, you're there to kill and blow shit up.

a satisfying weapon is a weapon that 'satisfies' me. The exact meaning of 'satisfies' is to be pondered further.

I'm not trying to mean, but that's a contender for most useless post of the year, sorry.

The Sleep Gas Satchel from MGS4. It's a remote detonated sleep gas mine. If you're careful you can stick it to people's arses and then wait for them to go over to some friends and detonate it, taking them all out. Did i mention you can stick it to people's arses?

A weapon that seems satisfying to me is a weapon that spawns bots! I do like RTS but I especially love being able to have drones to help me kill in an FPS.

Ratchet and Clank, not an FPS, but those doombots or whatever are awesome.

Melee and bloody.

I like it when I can get up close and eviscerating with my enemies, which is why Ninja Gaiden 2 makes me so happy with it's gigantic rip-you-apart scythe :D

Overall, I'd say pistols are the best in almost any game. Why? Simple.

1. Pistols have the most common ammo in games.
2. Pistols are usually pretty accurate.
3. Pistols usually have good range.
4. Pistols usually do 1-hit kill headshots.
5. Pistols are light, and in games where that matters, you run faster with them.
6. Pistols get silencers, stealth ftw!

-and I prefer the ones that make my subwoofer loosen the foundation of my house.

I made that mistake when the "Mavor" in supcom fired, had everything turned up, but man was it totally worth hearing. I swear I felt a shockwave (or at least it was the "illusion" of one). Ever since then though, I just thought "Rumble can go **** itself...that was awesome."

Oh and another "slow but deadly" weapon that comes to mind is the M82 in MGS4, there were M82's in other games but this one is special because of the way it looks, instead of a "gun with a stock" it looks more like a "precision shoulder fired canon" or something, half the time I don't even aim down the scope because of that.

Of all M82's though, the one in "Firearms" is the best, that mod is practically gone now but the memories of me shooting someone in the knee, thus breaking their leg, and then landing the final shot as they slowly limp away just made you feel (somewhat cruel) so skilled and "tactical" - like a curel opportunist or something.

Also I remember some things in the Mercenaries game like the bunker buster (which was actually a lot different from an actual bunker buster but none-the-less it was still awesome) that made buildings crack in two halves and then crumble apart.

just so long as it doesn't degrade overtime and actually feels like it's useful in the game, i'm happy. seriously, weapon degradation is stupid.

I like giving a good old arrow right between the eyes with a torque bow in gears of war.
That and the rivet gun with exploding bullets from Metal arms.
so much joy comes from blowing your enemies cerebellum out the nearest window

Is it the ammo supply? Ammo isn't a big deal for me but i like to be able to spray at something if it comes close. So a 30 round clip when your given 3 clips is ok.
Is it the power? As long as its good from range its fine.
Is it the practicality? Unless its games like quake i like my weapon to have a silencing ability.
Is it the accuracy? Accuracy is key. I can't use weapons that have poor accuracy, its just not the way i play.
Or, is it a combination of the above? It's all of the above :D.

M4A1 on CS:CZ and CS:S is my favorite weapon.

I assume that "Submachine Guns" is in your #2 spot right?

Looking at your list, definitely hard to argue whether SMG's or a Pistol would be more practical but, I think I'd still take an SMG, unless you give me a high caliber pistol with a long barrel, I have a soft spot for those.

I'd say size-->sound-->damage-->size of explosion (visually). If anyone remembers the SCUDD missile from BF1942 Desert Combat... that was soo satisfying

Satisfying weapon= high quality katana + insane skills and constitution (something in between Seta Sōjirō's speed and agility and (Rouroni Kenshin) and Shimada Kambei's wisdom and insane skills{Samurai 7}).

For me a satisfying weapon is a weapon when you feel a special feeling when you kill som one whit it, not the "hagwihahwhahiha, i killed you feeling" but the "Aoooww, pwnt" feeling.

The perfect example would be the hidden blade in Assassin's creed. It's so awsome to run to a dude and then jump on him and put a dagger in his troath.

Oooh yeah, I made a battery of those then fired them all at the enemy commander in one go. Took a fucking age to do but then I just decimated the whole map.
