I've got 3 Game stores in my city. I couldn't give a fuck if they closed. I buy my games elsewhere.

Well, I have 2 games here so I should be fine, I hope they shut down the crappy small one, not the nice one in the oracle though.
We have two GAME stores here too. God knows why, they're literally within the same street not to mention one is right next to a Gamestation store.
Oh yea, I have a gamestation too, I see why they are shutting down some, they are bloody pointless.

Cooool, an Escapist lives near me. As for the OP, it always confused me that wherever I see a GAME store, there's a Gamestation within 200 yeards, yet they're owned by the same company. Sounds like a wise move to me.

Here in Leeds, there are no fewer than four GAME stores in the city centre alone. There's only one CEX, one HMV, and one Gamestation.

I think downsizing in cases like this would be a pretty wise move. One store, two at most, is enough to cater for a single city centre. More than that, and the company is just wasting money...
Didn't they buy out EB Games? Or buy out there UK stores?

Cos I know here in Sheffield, we had an EB Games and a Game right across from each other, then GAME bought the EB Games store and they had 2 right accross from each other, which I alway's thought was wierd.

... Fuck. I work for these people.

The one I work at is the only one in that town, though, so fingers crossed...

Better not be the one in Stockport. Only decent place to buy your games. Better selection than Gamestation here and the less said about the local Game Stop the better. There are the few independent game stores but they massively rip you off and seem to store their CD's in between their arse cheeks the condition they're in. Bleh.

Simalacrum lives near us too, I think the reason they have game and gamestation, is for 2 different demographics, gamestation for the hardcores who like more "local." stores, and GAME is for more casual gamers, with a more company feel to it.

My response is, meh, I shop online now anyways, majority of stuff that I used to find in game were usually found cheaper somewhere else, I'm pretty sure the last thing I brought at game was a used pokemon mystery dungeon game that I played for about a week.

The GAME in my town is going to be closing a few days before Red Dead: Redemption is released. I don't really care all that much though, I've never really shopped in there, and there'll still be my local independent game store and a GameStation to buy stuff from.

I never did understand that: why would two stores owned by the same company open up within 100 metres of each other? I mean, surely you're paying double the operating cost for roughly the same amount of revenue? It makes no sense!

(Just a little side note: there are two reasons I used Redemption as a reference point:
1: It's probably gonna be awesome.
2: I don't think in terms of weeks, months or years, I think in game release dates. For example, I remember my birthday this year as being "Five days before Mass Effect 2 came out".)

You sir live in Reading.

My city has two as well, I hope they shut down the one in Churchill Square (Guess where I live)
You sir, live in Brighton, where there are two GAMES and a Gamestation all within spitting distance of each other, so one will probably not be missed.

Not that I will miss them much anyway. I stopped shopping there when I realised they were routinely adding £2 or £3 to the RRP.

I can't help but think this is a good thing as the two GAME stores in my town are literally about 100 metres apart. They're even on the same fucking street for christs sake!

Good to see it's not just the locals that think this.

I gave up on GAME, as soon as I had a paypal account and a visa electron.

It is so much cheaper to buy games from online retailers.

GAME only really survive on the ignorant, and the deprived.
Agreed. The only time I go to GAME is if I happen to want a game REALLY badly and don't want to wait 2 days for delivery AND the game is being sold at the same price as online. Which isn't often.

But my more ignorant family members have a habit of buying games for £10 more than what they could online, simply because they can't be bothered to ask me to look a specific game up. *sigh*

Well, theres two in my nearest shopping centre. No wonder they have to close some, why would you build two in the same shopping centre? It doesnt matter much, I buy all my games from Gamestation. Apart from PC games, GAME do have good deals on those

Absolutely no idea :p. I only came to Leeds about two years ago for university, I'm from near Birmingham originally and I've never seen an EB Games store anywhere in the UK. Unless EB were bought out before I came North, it's always been four GAME stores...

There's five within range of me. Ironically four of them can be considered 'small' branches in comparison to the fifth. That's a bugger.
