I'd agree, though by the time that they would make the movie, Huge Laurie might be too old for the role, since it seems every time I see Gordon's face, he's roughly in his late 30s early 40s, and Laurie would be in his late fifties by then....I know, make up would work, but still, only so much.
DOn't count the old guy out! There are alot of older action stars. Some of the guys in The Expendables are old enough to be rotting atleast. And also, check this movie out:

Micheal Caine kicks ass.

Talk about easy cash for the guy, just walk around expressionless throughout the movie. Essentially, he'd be Keanu Reeves.

But yeah, that'd be pretty good casting.
totally! loll

or wait...

Well, alright, but only if he doesn't talk. If he's gonna talk, he has to be voiced by Ross Scott, maker of Freeman's Mind. Any other voice would sound really weird to me. Besides:

He looks pretty darn close, right?
lolll that'd be perfect
he doesn't even need to act, though judging by the way he can deliver lines, he can

Surely Morgan Freeman's voice with Hugh Laurie's looks and you have the perfect Gotdon Freeman...Hell, you have the perfect human being!
that's just because they're all named Freeman, right?

just kidding, but yeah, doing some math here, that there would be the most perfect human ever

What exactly would be the problem if he talked anyway? I need someone to explain the issue to me. Also, I think it'd be a good casting choice. There's nothing Hugh can't do.

Due to Valve's hatred of cutscenes, and the lack of reflective surfaces, you never get to see Gordon Freeman's face in the actual games. That, combined with the lack of legs when you look down means that we have no in game evidence that he is anything more than a disembodied pair of hands.
The box art is the only thing that says he looks like that.
I know I already quoted this, but I thought it's something you should see.

There's your Gordon Freeman (as seen in Half-Life: Blue Shift

Gah! Now I am worried. Freeman is bad enough, but now G-Man?

I'm gonna start preparing for "Unforseen Consequences."

Gordon is supposed to be a graduate from MIT. He wouldn't talk like Hugh Laurie, and everyone would recognize Hugh's House voice. If anything, give Gordon a Boston accent. That would be funny.

Valve have said that the "meet the team" videos are experiments regarding making a CGI film, and I would assume that HL would be the chosen franchise... so... sadly no Hugh Laurie needed; even if he does look suspiciously right for the role.

...Stephen Fry as the G-Man would be utterly win, too.
Well if they did it like most CGI films they would still need a good actor for motion capture, and it helps if the person looks like the character.

...........
THIS IS AWESOME.

OT: Ehhh maybe, although the lack of real acting needed would mean it's a bit pointless. Knowing what Freeman goes through means the stunt double would play him for pretty much the entire film.

Either you give freeman a voice and people ***** or you waste acting talent by giving the protagonist no script. Either way it doesn't much matter game movies suck. Only a few rise above this and the hurdle right out the staring gate is going to be hard to overcome.

It could work. But i don't think valve would approve of a Half life movie.
They said in a recent PCG interview that they'd do it themselves if they did green-light one, and that they're constantly exploring stuff like that (not that it means they'll ever do it).

Many people seem to be complaining about some actor not 'having the voice' for Mr. Freeman.
To them I say "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE"

That is all.

Though I want to see who the G-Man will be!
(And am I out of the loop, or is S. Fry still slightly chubby. The G-man needs to be stick thin!)

First, for the picture: MY GOD. I'm scared.

And as for the other comments at the wasting talent, etc, you should really just put the stunt double in, as they don't need to act, just fall off a lot of things. It saves money, time and talent!

Holy shit. I was a fan of Freeman's Mind, but I had no idea that they looked so alike.

Not getting into the discussion ... I support the notion wholeheartedly, because this sort of thing came to mind several years ago already.
Give him Morgan's voice if you have to, but he's a reasonably versatile actor in both body, face and voice. He could probably manage that AND the action parts with a bit of effort.

Just do it NOW, before he gets too much older.

EDIT: whoops, I saw a bit of discussion. Carnkhan --- no, you want Peter Capaldi, aka the sweary one from The Thick Of It / In The Loop. For some reason he just comes to mind...

A Half-Life film would have to be first-person anyway, if such an atrocity were being seriously considered.

Yes AND HE SHALL VOICE HIM LIKE HE DOES HOUSE BECAUSE GORDON WAS BORING,

No I'm not trolling. I liked HL2 but I just couldn't stand the fact that the main character, a freaking SCIENTIST, wouldn't talk. And yet people knew him and liked him. Fuck him. I want to see him with a personality. Especially a snobbish but charming bastard like House.

Also how can it ruin the character WHEN THERE IS NO CHARACTER?

No. He wouldn't fit the role. I imagine Gordon as more of a calm, scientific, but also mad-scientist-y character. I can't think offhand of anyone who could pull it off, but I haven't seen Dr. House's actor in any roles that might indicate he can play someone like Freeman.
