Ohhh, a half-context.

See what I told Worgen.

And that wasn't even my point. For a dollar, you end up with four usable games. If you're going to whine about that, you'd better have a damn reasonable explanation for it.
Oh noes! I guess I better go buy that bundle right now 'cause you don't accept my refusal to do so!

Good show, sir! GOOD SHOW! XD
Is that what I said?

Oh, no. I don't accept your complaining about getting four games for a dollar. To charity, no less. If you wish to not buy it, go crazy. But coming in and trying to tell people it's a terrible thing, going as far as to manually grab the involved charity sites because you're convinced it's a bad thing? You're entirely delusional and making yourself look bad.

As soon as I saw the Humble email drop into my inbox I knew there'd be a royal shitstorm on the forums. This is easily the best thing EA have done in an age, but I'm not interested in the games. I already donate respectably to charity so the money saved here can help cover some of my other more frivolous purchases this month.

You're right, and I feel bad now.

I've made a $25.00 donation directly to the American Cancer Society in your name.

I hope that makes things better.
I'm suffering some major Poe's Law right now.

<spoiler=If srs>That wasn't totally necessary, but all's well that ends well.

<spoiler=If not srs>Classy, dude. Classy.

See, this is why we can't have nice things. One person constantly hammering their viewpoint without bothering to read what other people are saying. Seriously, if damn near every other post on a thread is yours, then stop typing.

I've already got the ones of those on steam I care about, the only 2 that interest me are dead space 3 and bf3, but both of those require origin.

Reported for jerkiness.

Beyond that, you gave no context. If you want people to respond to your posts correctly, give them correct context. Withholding relevant info and then being smug when someone doesn't read your mind doesn't make you clever, it gets you on ignore lists.
If you didn't come off as a jerk in your post then I wouldn't have responded in kind.

Nope. I totally am reading what other people are saying.

And I find it all so mind-boggling misinformed, bull-headed and painful that I can't help but fight it back.

Imagine if all your friends suddenly began curbstomping someone after they gave a wallet of cash to a homeless person. Would you just stand there?

OK, so I wasn't entirely honest with you. I didn't think "In Memory of lacktheknack" would have been in the proper spirit of the donation. Plus, they wanted first/last name and I don't know yours.

But I did donate.

This is probably the weirdest turn of events I've ever encountered in my thread-fights, but rest assured that you kind of win by default. Good on you.

False. Four months later, my never-online laptop still opens Steam and lets me play.

Please use correct reasons when constructing an argument against something.
It happened to me, how does that make it false?

Oh, right, you're trying to minimize and provoke me. Well done.

If they'd wanted to win my money they could have made these DRM free.
Let me yet again reiterate that apparently EA doesn't get any of the money. /quote]I know that, I read that, I wasn't specifically referring to EA.

Also, they removed ALL of the layers of crap. I'm no longer mad at them. Not even for what they're doing to Mirror's Edge 2. As far as I'm concerned, they're once again tabula rasa.
Perhaps not always on, but you are required to check in periodically, monthly or something thereabout. When I moved to my current home I was without internet (except for my 1gb per month on a cell) for 5 months. That meant that any games I owned, fully paid for and all, I was unable to play because of that garbage. The games I could play were GOG and console only, of course the exception to that being that on my Xbox 360 I couldn't play my indies without online access.

So again, it's an internet based DRM, and for that they can suck it.
As far as I know, as long as you log into steam ONCE and then turn on offline mode, Steam will not hassle you to enable an internet connection again unless you try to play a game that requires you to be online... So I think you're wrong about this.
This wasn't my experience, which occurred in Feburary and lasted until June of this year. Maybe my experience is atypical?

I'm going to go with that (non-provacatively). What exactly happened? Did it come up with a screen saying "You need to log in now"?

At the risk of derailing this thread even further, I love that EA have done this (I didn't own any of the games before today) but why are four of the five charities American only?

Man you think they would have learned from Simcity... It's dam near impossible to redeem a code right now, servers seem to be locked up.

I had a feeling that if EA made any attempt to turn around their image, it would be met with heavy skepticism and shitstorms a brewin'. When I saw the announcement in my e-mail, my head went "EA in a Humble Bundle? I'm sure there's a news post about it and the comments are at least very interesting". Glad I'm not disappointed.

Threw in 10 bucks (they're not even keeping the money). First time I've ever installed Origin on any of my machines and it was pretty painless and un-scary. I would assume one of the hugest publishers would be prepared to accept codes for something like this, but they're new guys in the game.

At the end of the day: They aren't keeping any of the money and it all goes to charities and Humble, Origin didn't spawn a demon out of my CPU that haunted my house, and prompted me at every step if I wanted hardware/software data taken or commercial e-mails, and another show of interest is shown in the growing PC market by a major publisher in the classiest of ways. Keep at it guys, if you can put the "arts" back in EA with Ricitiello gone I've got a wallet for you to pick at.

Oh boy, are we still stuck on the "ORIGIN IS GOING TO READ MY EMAIL !!!1!11!" bollocks?
Anyway I would love to buy this, but I already own all the included games that I'm interested in. Also I love that if Valve had done this (which they never have and never will) people would be nominating Gabe for the Nobel peace prize. At this point EA could announce they are funding a campaign to find homes for abandoned puppies and people would fly into a rage about how EA is evil and start dissecting the puppies to find the spy equipment that they are sure EA stuffed them with.

So, if a game is on steam and origin both, does that mean you can redeem it in both places? Because that would be great, you could keep one and give one to a friend or something.

I'm going to drop $25 on this all for cancer and never play any of the games.

This deal would be great if they weren't using another background program as DRM. Will these companies at least have the decency to do what the movie industry does and come up with some kind of DRM standard that they all can use? On the other hand, if they were releasing game keys for console versions of the games then this would be pretty good.
