OK, so I wasn't entirely honest with you. I didn't think "In Memory of lacktheknack" would have been in the proper spirit of the donation. Plus, they wanted first/last name and I don't know yours.

Also, they removed ALL of the layers of crap. I'm no longer mad at them. Not even for what they're doing to Mirror's Edge 2. As far as I'm concerned, they're once again tabula rasa.

Perhaps not always on, but you are required to check in periodically, monthly or something thereabout. When I moved to my current home I was without internet (except for my 1gb per month on a cell) for 5 months. That meant that any games I owned, fully paid for and all, I was unable to play because of that garbage. The games I could play were GOG and console only, of course the exception to that being that on my Xbox 360 I couldn't play my indies without online access.

So again, it's an internet based DRM, and for that they can suck it.

As far as I know, as long as you log into steam ONCE and then turn on offline mode, Steam will not hassle you to enable an internet connection again unless you try to play a game that requires you to be online... So I think you're wrong about this.

At the risk of derailing this thread even further, I love that EA have done this (I didn't own any of the games before today) but why are four of the five charities American only?

I had a feeling that if EA made any attempt to turn around their image, it would be met with heavy skepticism and shitstorms a brewin'. When I saw the announcement in my e-mail, my head went "EA in a Humble Bundle? I'm sure there's a news post about it and the comments are at least very interesting". Glad I'm not disappointed.

Threw in 10 bucks (they're not even keeping the money). First time I've ever installed Origin on any of my machines and it was pretty painless and un-scary. I would assume one of the hugest publishers would be prepared to accept codes for something like this, but they're new guys in the game.

At the end of the day: They aren't keeping any of the money and it all goes to charities and Humble, Origin didn't spawn a demon out of my CPU that haunted my house, and prompted me at every step if I wanted hardware/software data taken or commercial e-mails, and another show of interest is shown in the growing PC market by a major publisher in the classiest of ways. Keep at it guys, if you can put the "arts" back in EA with Ricitiello gone I've got a wallet for you to pick at.

Anyway I would love to buy this, but I already own all the included games that I'm interested in. Also I love that if Valve had done this (which they never have and never will) people would be nominating Gabe for the Nobel peace prize. At this point EA could announce they are funding a campaign to find homes for abandoned puppies and people would fly into a rage about how EA is evil and start dissecting the puppies to find the spy equipment that they are sure EA stuffed them with.

This deal would be great if they weren't using another background program as DRM. Will these companies at least have the decency to do what the movie industry does and come up with some kind of DRM standard that they all can use? On the other hand, if they were releasing game keys for console versions of the games then this would be pretty good.

All the money is already going to the charities and HB team; EA isn't taking a cent from the sales. Read the article.

This is something I didn't think EA was possible of doing at this point. There's way too much whining about previous EA missteps when discussing this, EA are idiots; unless we acknowledge them for using a decent marketing position for a change, they won't understand that they could be doing more of it.

Man... arguing against charity donations due to platform hangups. I don't think I've heard anything this low from the gaming community since some of the Retake Mass Effect 3 crowd were demanding refunds from Child's Play.

EA's HQ is in California, it's only natural they would want to support local charities. Also supporting any charity for a cause such as AIDS or Cancer has a knock on effect with with all others. Discoveries in one country are shared with others even if it's something as simple as how to make people more comfortable. If you really want to you can adjust the slider to give all your donation to one charity.

This, quite frankly. EA aren't getting a penny and if you don't want to use Origin then don't, just pay your $1 and take the Steam keys. All they are asking for is a $6 donation to charity, doesn't matter if you take the codes or not, it's publicity.

Of course I did run into a bit of an issue. I can't activate at least one of the Steam keys because the game isn't available in my region. Hopefully the same issue doesn't crop up with Origin.

I am surprised and love to see this. I have wanted to play a good few of these games for a while, and with a small small microscopic hope I wanted SimCity on there But good on EA. This is great, not taking a dime but putting these games up for cheap cheap cheap.

And for some of the people saying they are just gonna give money to charities and not buy it... why not use that money on the humble bundle, put every cent into charity (not even a humble tip), and give the games away for free to friends? You know, make both the charities and gamers happy. You get to do what you wanted and your friends play more games, cus not everyone hates EA, and some of these games some poorer people have wanted to play.
