People collect and follow a lot of strange things... I mean people pay a lot of money for vintage video games... granted, those could possibly be played- but I doubt most people who buy those games play them.

segue:
For any of you who watch Justified by any chance, I loved the recent episode with the guy who collected Hitler's Paintings... that was brilliant and hilarious

Worst way to waste money: my roommate. (The asshole.)

He buys new games and often sells them back less than a month later. Right after paying rent (he at least keeps up with that) he spends the rest of his paycheck on games. Uh... Does he ever buy food? Rarely.

He's even sold me an old version of his DS before so he could get a little more money for some food, and then games...

People still play Yu-Gi-Oh?
yea, to tell the truth, i do, i find it a lot of fun, and its a easy way to make money.
Oh I honestly thought the game died when the show stopped airing.
I play MTG so I'm hardly being judgmental about TCG's or anything.

Make money how? Buy/Sell ebay style?
i made 35 or so bucks off of 3 cards, and the town i live in runs cash tornaments, so when i win, i get cash.

I think the OP is missing the point of charity. You're not buying the actual item, you're giving money to charity and the item is like your proof of generosity or something. Obviously some people understand. It's like writing a check to a charity, and getting a receipt...only in this case the receipt can also be used to play a game.
i get the point of it, i just, i odnt know, it feels weird to me that someone is willing to pay that much, i dont know how to say it.

Look up "Black Lotus" on ebay...this Blue Eyes is nothing...

Ah, Blue Eyes White Dragon. I remember owning one of them. I also owned a number of other awesome cards, like Dark Magician and Red Eyes Black Dragon. Sometimes I regret throwing away those, as I like collecting things.

It may be a waste of money to you but thats the thing its only a waste of money if you don't think it is worth buying. Collectors will pay stupid amounts of money for the things they collect.

I don't get it. What's so great about that card that it gets to cost almost 1000 dollars?
Having seen Yu-Gi-Oh cards just 2 days ago, I'd say that judging by the amount of stars, or whatever that was in the top part of the card, that's a really powerful creature. It would be worth more than a few bucks to the die-hard player. Add to that the "charity" part and the value may increase over tenfold.

it's not at all that powerful, you check efects or Att/Def for that. all those stars just mean a fuckload of sacrifices.
Well, the atk/def looked average, so I was thinking the effects are OP for the card to have such high cost - can't really read what they are from this pic :)

I see your Twilight and raise you Meet the Spartans. Or lower, whichever you prefer.
Peter Griffin and blackjack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nAqQ9D0v2w What game are we playing!? :D

For the topic. I am really not sure that this is charity. I have doubts that someone actually will send this to charity. If it really is I am amazed that someone actually uses internet for a good cause (other than the escapist).

Ummm....I'm going to pretend you don't know what you are talking about or have never played MTG lol.

Black Lotus give you 3 mana for free. The reason it is the most powerful card in magic is several fold:

1)It is colorless, making it fit into any color deck
2)Every deck needs mana, so it again fits into any type of deck
3)It can be used in conjunction with several hundred types of 1st turn kill combos
4)Again, it can be used in conjunction with several hundred infinite mana, damage, etc type combos
5)It is a card that can bring out more powerful cards much more rapidly than any other card in the game, making it extremely versatile

I would be hard pressed to play Any Type 1 Tournament and not use a black lotus (assuming I owned one). I can not think of one situation where it would not be useful in a deck, which I can't say for ANY other card in the game.

Come on people it's signed. Sign something and you'll always get die hard fans paying out loads. Plus, people will pay silly money if it's for charity. (Which is a good thing)
