Left 4 Dead had Co op multyplayer
and I think Counter strike did too, I'm not sure I never played it
it makes them less bad than TF2
Left 4 Dead has both co-op and competitive modes. Counter-strike is purely competive, and most of the people who play it are super-aggresive hyper-caffeinated jerks that can headshot you from across the map with a pistol. I think if you played it you'd change your mind about TF2 being the worst Valve game.

I just hate the whole competitive multyplayer thing
I have a friend who loves competitive multyplayer *namely Modern Warfare 2. and I asked him why it's so fun. and he said "Fun isn't the point of competitive multyplayer, it's for the challenges like sprinting 250 miles or disarming 300 enemy C4's."
I don't know your friend but he sounds like the kind of guy who ruins competitive multiplayer for someone like me. I play for fun, and to relax. And when I have teammate/enemies who are trying to earn some stupid achievement INSTEAD of trying to win that pisses me off to no end. If you want achievements, go to achievement servers.

So I don't think there is any real point to comp multyplayer. especially not if it's the only part of the game.
plus they've proven that they can knock single player out of the park with Half Life and Portal
Portal was like an 1.5 hrs long, and while Half-life was great, it isn't all that popular. The most played games on Steam are Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2, so that's where Valve is putting their attention.

all I'm saying is that I want to see Half Life 2 episode 3 before Left 3 Dead or Team Fortress 3
I would also like portal 2 but honestly how long do they have to work on those god damn HL2 episodes?
I agree with you here. Where is EP3? It wouldn't be so bad but EP2 ended on such a cliffhanger. Quit playing with my emotions Valve, give me some closure already!
I kind of figured that's what Counter Strike would be like, that's why I never played it.

you'd probably hate my friend, he always sends out "M2AF: Wanna boost?"
but I just don't get any enjoyment from competitive multyplayer.
sometimes I'll get in a good match where it's close all the way to the end
(my Comp Multy game of choice is Halo Reach, mostly because of Fire Fight}
but if it's clear that I suck, I don't have fun. and if it's clear that I'm the best, I don't have fun. I want to play against people my own skill level, and that's impossible to ensure

that's true about portal but it was the best 1.5 hours in any game ever.
but seriously Valve needs to release Episode 3 and Portal 2 and Half life 3

I'm sure all the time they're putting in to development is to ensure quality

Easy. This is such a goofy and ridiculous FPS that I don't even give a crap if I die often.
Never thought of that one.
Same for me. And like someone else said, try each of the classes for a bit and find one that you might be able to get the hang of, then spread out from there.

Also, I'd say to ignore drops and trading for a while, stick with the default weapons for a bit and grow into them.

In addition make liberal use of the mute function for mike spammers, cause this game attracts mike spammers like flies.

Hopefully you will have fun!

Ask the people in the TF2 group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC]

They'll tell you.

For me, its because its arguably the most balanced FPS ever made.

Every class has a purpose. Every class has specific strengths and weaknesses. No class is the be-all end-all. But play a class well and you can use it for pretty much any task.

Its just insanely well balanced, simple, deep, funny, and fun.

This is a sentence that can legitimately be said after a round of TF2.

So me, a gun-toting soviet and an angry baseball fan were all pushing a bomb towards the enemy when suddenly an Australian man threw a jar of urine at us. Soon after a crazy Texan's machine-gun sentries started gunning us down but luckily our crazed German medic came out with his healing gun and made the Soviet invincible whilst he threw down a sandwich for me and the baseball fan to enjoy. My baseball loving friend then noticed an invisible Frenchman sneaking up on us so he hit a baseball at him which had him stunned so I could burn him to death with my hadouken of fire.

You sold?
Spycheck, please

I really like the social aspect of it, myself. It's really cool because if you can find a good server with a good community, it's like being on The Escapist while playing a pretty fun FPS at the same time, since you can discuss video games and stuff. It's cool.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are people who are hostile to anything less than pro-level play, and mic spammers. You just gotta mute these fools.
