I personally believe that the only reason to raise a hand at someone is self defense. i can't imagine being set off by a gesture, i really cant.
The rude gesture IS raising a hand at someone.

If i had not driven away i would have[/quote]

If you had been a courteous and safe driver you wouldn't have even had to ask the question. You are the author of your own demise here. You are not a victim. You had every bit of power to prevent any of this by happening. You chose not to, and chose to be offensive and provoke the other driver.

Tho, I kinda feel for the other driver tho, there he is, trying to drive safely, and show common courtesy, and some fucknugget's honking their born, and screaming at him, and telling him to go fuck himself, while behind the wheel of a one ton deathtrap.

Oh yeah, did you forget that part? You're armed in a vehicle.

I would hate my country if the people were so impatient that they would always honk at me for just letting people cross the road...

This. You caused the incident. If you had had some patience the situation never would have happened. Maybe next time you would be such a jerk.

I think you got some of the story wrong, probably my fault cuz i'm really bad at telling it

I honked ONCE before i saw anybody crossing the street .
I did not say a word to anybody, the guy who started yelling was the guy crossing the street.

Sounds like the same world where someone is nice enough to stop to let someone cross and then gets honked at by a driver who has absolutely no courtesy and a nice big helping of road rage.

Do you force cyclists to mount the curb to avoid being hit by you too?

TC, your problem is presuming that the people in your country are going to have some kind of affinity with you because of some imaginary boundary. A country is like family: you can't choose them, so why feel so proud of your ties to them just because you are tied to them. The ties that bind, dude, are the ties that bind. Just look at this episode as a turning point in realising that sharing a flag with someone else means jack.

Uhm... all I have learned from this is that Karma works very well.
You started hooting when a guy stopped in front of you for a pedestrian... when you were going above the speed-limit. And you showed him an insulting gesture. You got your just desserts there, the pedestrian is really the only one who should feel the need to leave your country after that incident...

So i was almost attacked today.
I was driving in my car pretty fast when the driver in front of me stopped at a crossing in order to let a guy cross the road. i was pissed so i honked once. the guy who was walking started yelling at me. i made a gesture for "pshh" (pretty dumb on my part i know) and the guy just flipped started running towards my car yelling for me to get out. obviously i didn't and started driving when i could but he was close enough to kick the car.

What kind of a fucked up world do we live on that someone can turn violent from a hand gesture from a guy he does not know in a car across the road.

So escapist... what do you think?
ಠ_ಠ [facepalm]

You shouldn't have gotten so pissed about having to suddenly stop when you were going fast that you honk and flip him off. Only thing you did right was admitting that your part in this was dumb.

Stop. Just stop.

Your horn is to be used to alert other drivers as to unsafe scenarios, or to alert pedestrians. It's not to communicate annoyance. If another driver cuts you off, you're not honking cause he's an ass, you're honking because you need him to know there's a car there and thus is dangerous.

This doesn't even begin to apply in this case, because he's not trying to enter your space. You should have honked your horn zero times. Not once. Zero.

Secondly... seriously dude. It's a car at a fucking crosswalk. Why are you surprised that someone was crossing the road? I'd have some sympathy for your apparent surprise at this strange turn of events if it was in any way unusual.

Instead... a car stopped at a crosswalk because a pedestrian is crossing is EXACTLY WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO HAPPEN.

What scares me here is that if this had been a two-lane road, you would have ignored the driver, switched lanes, gone right past him, AND KILLED THE PEDESTRIAN.

Seriously. That's how bad a driver you were in this situation. Do you think it matters how many times you beeped? You were UNAWARE of a car's reasons for stopping at a crosswalk. That's DANGEROUS and NEGLIGENT.

I did not say a word to anybody, the guy who started yelling was the guy crossing the street.
When you raise your hand in a rude gesture to someone, you are telling thme to go fuck themselves. That's the entire point of the gesture. They don't have a hand gesture for 'you're kinda an inconvenience.' They START and 'go fuck yourself' and escalate from there.

How DARE he try to cross the road when you're driving!

Seriously, he sounds like he's much closer to being in the right here than you are.

No fucking way.
That was actually pretty funny. "Cocksneeze" is my new favorite insult.

And yeah, the OP kind of brought this on himself. I mean, running toward the offending party while shouting is not the best way to go about conflict resolution, but still. Dick move, OP. Dick move.

Everyone here is right. You were admittedly driving fast and you got pissed at someone for stopping to let someone cross the road - at a crosswalk? What is that about?

Did the other person overreact? Perhaps, but if you run around acting like a jerk, eventually you will run into the person who isn't going to take your shit and you have no one to blame but yourself.

Edit: I take it back - the part about the other person perhaps overreacting. I don't think he did. When you get into a vehicle, you could kill someone. You could have killed him. I agree with the above poster that if it had been a two lane road, you would have just passed the other car at your high rate of speed like negligent idiot. I would have told you off too. You could kill someone. It's one of those things that only happens to other people until it happens to you.

I take back my 'perhaps'.

Um...didn't you start this nonsense by showing your anger at another driver for not running over a pedestrian?

I guess by "almost attacked," you mean that someone very nearly kicked your car with a sandal. Why are we so spoonfed that we take to the internet to spread our hyperbolic melodrama anytime someone slights us?

Yeah, you're right the guy in front of you just should of plowed that pedestrian over so you could arrive at your destination ten seconds earlier. Obviously your time is far more valuable than anyone else's and even the most minor delay should be met with immediate honking and insulting gestures. I can only begin to imagine how terribly inconvenienced the remainder of your day must have been after this unneeded delay.

I think the solution here is obvious, you should petition the city to give you special lights and a siren so that the rest of the motorists know just how precious your time is. Furthermore, the lights and sirens would let them know immediately to pull off to the side of the road so that you can drive through at whatever speed you deem necessary ignoring all stop signs and stop lights along the way. Afterall, your time is certainly more valuable than any other driver on the road and certainly infinitely more valuable than any of the shameless vagabonds that dare to be out walking.

Now barring the above option there is another, far more radical, solution you could try. That solution is slowing down and not acting like an impatient twat. Cause it sounds to me like you were being just that, an impatient twat, that thought you can act however you deem fit with no repercussions and ended up catching the wrong guy who wasn't about to put up with your shit and ultimately left with a kicked vehicle and likely soiled pants.

a)The way i acted was retarded that is true.
b)He DID kick my car, hard, and if i had not drove away when i did he could have done more.

the point i am trying to make (not doing a very good job at it) is that i am amazed that it has become normal for some to assault you for waving your hand- that is what i did btw not "flipped him off" as more the one person described it.

A lot of the posters say i deserve it because provoked him. this is a grown man we are talking about not the neighbor's dog

You're a Pussy.

''So, I was being a dick, honking my horn and then showing someone a insulting hand gesture, because I'm a dick. But then this ruffian wanted to get to me, so I drove away like a little *****. POOR ME''
And getting out and fighting with ten minutes, leaving two people injured and a lot of time wasted on sorting it out with the police is a better idea?
I think his point wasn't that the OP should get into a fight, but that if he's going to be a dick, he should at least stick to his convictions rather than run away like a ***** as soon as someone stands up to him (and then whine on the internet about it).

And honestly, your story was hilarious and awesome. If the other guy had antagonised you like that, and then just drove off, you'd be left with an empty, irritated feeling. But the fact that you actually got the opportunity to knock his ass out must've been immensely satisfying.
