I'm glad that America doesn't have a universal health care system. Our country is full of obese bastards who are eating themselves to death, and I don't want to have to pay a penny of their medical care.

It does quite suck for people who have legitimate health concerns that they themselves didn't bring about though (like cancer). That's why fat people ruin everything, roller coasters, airplanes, health care.

Cancer can be cause by smoking as well as drug abuse and as such can be self inflicted.

Several actually. A few on my neck and last night I found one on one of my testicles. They are all fairly hard and round and maybe half the size of a grape. When I approach my father with this he either tells me that I don't have cancer or that if it is cancer we can't afford to have work done. We have no medical insurrance and no real money, because he went and lost his job the useless fuck.

Sounds like you probably got same thing I used to have. I can't remember what they're called, but they're just little pockets of calcium and shit that hardened, just happens to be in the same spot that cancer can be. Go to a free clinic or something anyway, though. Even if it's not cancer I feel that "fairly hard round lumps" in your neck could fuck some shit up sooner or later.

Find a free/cheap clinic and have a basic check-up done: poking and prodding, no fancy MRI business or anything. They'll probably tell you you've got a lymphatic infection, like some other posters have mentioned.

Ask what you need to do to make it go away & stay away. Chances are, "eat healthy, get 8 hours of sleep a night, and exercise regularly" will do the trick.

It's not ignorance, it's statistics. Yes, it could be cancer. No, it's probably not.

I did suggest that he get himself checked out. (And yes Stalk3rchief, if you're still reading this you should get yourself to a clinic.) But in a sensible way - find a medical professional to poke at you & hope that it's easily identified as a lymphatic or other condition.

Paranoia + statistics + screening = false positives, headaches, and skyrocketing health care costs for us all. The short version is that false positives on testing for rare conditions actually tends to cost more than it saves, in addition to fueling a mindset of paranoia & misfocusing on the little things while ignoring the big things. I can't count the number of people I know who stress about .01% bizarre shit they saw on a medical drama, then fail to wash their hands after using the restroom.

What I'm trying to say isn't that he should ignore it. Just that instead of assuming the .01% freak accident chose him as a baseline, take a neutral stance & let a medical professional do the diagnosis. Not to put words in anyone's mouth, but "What's wrong with me?" is a much better starting place than "Prove to me I don't have cancer." Especially at 20.
