I HATE rich people...

How do you feel about rich people? Do you hate them all? Do you feel most of them carry themselves in a certain way?

There are magnitudes of "rich" that are too diverse to really attempt to answer this question - I think that's been pointed out already so to elaborate...

There are "We can spend two weeks in the country when our family vacations at a location we either own or partially own" rich folks who are by and large normal people who are either nice or jerks depending on personality and attract almost no attention from me except as I interact with them and their personalities are revealed.

There are "We spend much of our time vacationing and/or own a number of expensive cars and/or homes we are not using" rich folks who I am somewhat inclined to think of as wasteful, but do not have any particular ire towards them beyond thinking that they are being extravagant or flippant about their use of their resources.

There are "We don't work at all and we have many expensive luxury possessions that we may not even see to enjoy" rich people who I do think are absolutely wasteful with their resources and have some strong feelings about our society tolerating their excess with more good grace than I think it deserves.

Then there are "We don't work, we have many many expensive luxury possessions that we probably don't see to enjoy as they are so many we could not possibly be bothered with them all individually AND we have massive holdings in terms of the % of the world's wealth we control that we can't even hump back into the economy if we were even so inclined because they are so massive indeed" rich people - and these I do not hate, but I do not think they should be allowed to exist (not saying kill them, just saying we shouldn't have let it get to that point and should probably do something to reduce their wealth back to a sane level).

Finally there are "We don't work, we have ridiculous luxury items we might not even remember we have, massive holdings of wealth, a sickening percentage of the wealth of the world, and the political power that all buys" rich people... and those I do sort of hate, only in that I really think it's gone entirely too far there and they shouldn't be allowed to hold that much of the resources that exist and then wield them as they see fit when there are a whole lot of us that have to live under them for no other reason than that their ancestors managed to snatch up a majority holding and keep adding to it over the years.

Honestly the "They spend all their money on Ferraris rather than helping people" thing... Never got it.
How many people have a computer capable of playing games at home? Almost everyone reading this? Great, why did you waste money on that luxury instead of feeding Africa? You know, if everyone stopped buying luxury products, just the middle class, and put that money towards helping the world, we'd make a bigger difference than a couple of rich people doing it.

Problem is, rich people have more, so its easy to say they should do it, not us. Yet, honestly, we're in the same situation. Nobody wants to give up their luxuries. If you're struggling to make ends meet and mostly just being able to get food on the table, then yeah, there's no much more you could do. But usually a number of the people that complain about this have a decent car, widescreen TV, a nice house somewhere, and the subtext isn't that the rich should help the poor, but the rich should allow the middle class to have more luxuries.

Overall, I don't hate the rich. I hate assholes. If some guy is an asshole it doesn't matter how much money they have - they're a terrible person and I won't like them. If someone is a genuinely great person, it also won't matter how much money they had. They're a great person and I'd look up to them. I don't see any point in judging people based off the amount of money they have. Someone's character is independent of their fortune, and that's what I'd rather judge them on.

Rich people are people. Some are jerks, some are great, some are just regular joes in a fancy costumes.

I do think a lot of them are assholes that exploit and even outright bribe people to get their way, but not all of them. What i do see as a problem is second generation rich people, those who inherited rather than earned the wealth, because all too often they just waste it on variuos crap such as bribing police officers to let them get away with car theft.

In general I kind of feel indifferent. People are people, some are good, some aren't. Money doesn't change that much IMO. That being said however, I do dislike (Hate is a very strong word after all) people who are arrogant, but only rich because they inherited their wealth. Whereas people who earned their money, well, I don't like their arrogance either, but they earned the right to be. And I dare say most people are just envious.

Concerning the Ferrari example posted. It's easy to tell others how to spend their money, but god forbid you tell them how to spend their own money. All hell breaks loose.

But at the end of the day I still won't care. Your rich and you want to use your money as toilet paper? Go ahead. It ain't any of my business.

I dislike rich people who don't spend the money well. A lot of people see being rich as either something they deserved or just a happy accident. Whereas some see it as a responsibility.
If you're a billionaire and you're not spending serious amounts of money to try and improve the state of the world, I just can't like you as a person. You don't have to go as far as Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Elon Musk and spend 95% of it. But I think any billionaire who's not actively contributing say 50% of it towards public projects, has a serious moral deficiency, and is creating the rationale for people who say we need bigger and bigger governments with more taxes.

I will say though that for some reason, we have an ingrained habit of hating rich people and writing them off as assholes if they do the slightest thing wrong.

It's pointless to me to hate the people rather than the system that allows people to assume position of such a large disparity in power.

I don't begrudge people for being rich or poor. However, it's hard to hear rich people talk about how the poor are lazy or just "don't want it enough", or that the rich pay too much in taxes, or that the rich don't have enough say in how the country is run, or that the rich are somehow getting a shitty deal in general without wanting to smack said person across the face.

Hearing Donald Trump go on and on about how he's not "part of the establishment" would be laughable if so many people didn't sincerely believe it. And then there's people who run large Corporations and makes plenty of profit, who talk about how they can't afford to provide health insurance or raise the minimum wage for their employees.

I don't mind rich people.

If they are using money to specifically manipulate politicians to into giving them laws that would suit them, then I'm getting annoyed. If they are talking about those poorer then them and their 'low levels of effort' I get pretty cranky, especially when they are the ones controlling wages, literally making people poorer. It just reminds me of the Monopoly experiment where some people were given double the starting cash, extra turns, extra dice and even if they were the nicest person, many turned out like Trump, stating they deserved what they got, ignoring the significant advantage someone gave them.

I get towards mad when they make huge mistake like in the GFC and they expect us to bail them out. A year later, and most have paid back the loans but they haven't paid for the consequences of their damage. Also there is a couple of hundred thousand fraudulently created subprime loans that made the mess worse and no one went to jail on the lender (usually richer people) or customer side (usually poorer people).

I don't mind rich people, but if they are making the rest of us pay for their mistake or influence policies and change the rules of Capitalism for their own benefit (i.e. crony Capitalism) then I'm out. They can have every criticism levelled on them. Unfortunately, like the GFC, this hurt the entrepreneur that did the right thing just as much as those who did the wrong.

I don't hate anyone for silly reasons like how much money they happen to make. Many folks who are rich worked very hard to earn said riches and deserve to do what they want with their wealth. I don't envy them their money either. I would rather have what I have now, enjoying what I enjoy at leisure, rather than being burdened by enormous wealth. I truly believe that the things we own end up owning us and that contentment comes through learning to enjoy what we have rather than envying what others have.

Rich people aren't any different than anyone else. There's rich people who are complete assholes and there's rich people who are total saints.

You know what's interesting? There's poor people who are total assholes and there's poor people who are total saints, too! Money - or lack there of - doesn't make you an asshole, your personality does.

Perhaps I am far off the mark, but OP's stance comes across as the very naive opinion of a young person who hasn't thought out his post before writing it.

How is this thread any different from saying, "I hate black people because I met some bad ones." or "I hate women because I met some bad ones"?
He'd be torn appart or banned for such a thread. I wonder why it's OK to hate one minority of person for no good reason, but not OK to hate another for an equally pathetic reason.

I work as cleaner and the people who hires a company to do their cleaning for them are usally not poor. So I'm have met people who are wealthy that treat me as a secondclass citizen,but it comes with the job. Not ALL of them are like that ,but some of them are I feel like part of their manners went out the window once they accuired a large sum of money. But this is nothing new ,this is what our society looks like today and have for a long. We've divided into different socialclasses for a while now,you have the poor,the blue collar(like myself) and rich. However I do belive money changes people,so if I ever got rich I hope that I can maintain the same valous I live by now.
