Valve loves sequels
Sequels mean no risk.
For e.g. They release L4D, a game with less content but an intriguing premises.Once it is successful they announce a sequel which is what L4D 1 should have been in the first place.
Those guys are actually no. 1 FPS company in my book.

So, OP
What is it that you want,
A new Half Life game, or original content?
That doesn't really seem clear in your post

ohh waaaaaaah.....another whiner is 'mad' that Valve is doing exactly what they've always done more often than not better than thier competition. And you complain about Portal 2...."more of the same" you really are a troll(that or a thicko) its more Portal with more features and all of said features look awesome.(Co-op anyone?)

Isn't valve also working on DotA 2? they're making a game from a 10 year old mod and since more then 75% the people who play this one will have never have played the first one I wouldn't call it a squeal so much.

Besides with the Mann Co store nobody gets to use the new weapons unless they pay for it.
Looks like someone didn't understand what valve told them about the drop rates for all new items being the same as all other items. Herp. Derp.
What I mean by this is that you can pay and get instant reward. Or you can wait for ages to horde together the scrap to craft the new weapon. Or wait for lady luck to grace you with one.

It takes over a month to craft a polycount hat, which you need for the set bonus to take any effect at all.

When was the last time Valve [http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meanwhile.jpg] announced a completely new series? L4D...how long ago was it?

Now they just announced Portal 2...or should I say Portal: More of the Same."

I mean, at least they could have it on a new engine, but NO!

They have used the same engine for an entire decade.

WOW!

Not to mention they have completely forgotten their best franchise! Hey guys! Remember Dr. Freeman! You know, the whole of Earth and stuff!

There should have been no "episodes" in the first place for HL2, and they should have all come out in the same year considering around five minutes were put into each section.

They are the perfect example of a lazy company, stop using the nasty Source engine, and get their engineers to make something that doesn't have Gamecube graphics.

I give up. I can't be pacified with TF2 updates forever. If Valve doesn't announce Episode 3, or HL3 running on a new engine soon I'm just done with them as a developer.

Actually I think they were done with Ep. 3 a long time ago, Gabe just ate it.

What do you think about the company?
its ingrates like you...... no you know what. not even going there. dont want to get b&. and no im not a fanboy. thats all im going to say.

The obvious mistake you're making is that you obviously consider Valve to be a game developer.

Once you get that crazy thinkin' out of your head and realize they're a digital distributor (who happens to make a game whenever they feel like it) you won't be so angry all the time.

I'm sure that everyone at Valve is panicking now, god forbid they lose one customer.

I personally love them. I enjoy every game they put out.

As for the next Half-Life game: It will never live up to the anticipation, so why make such a fuss?

This but no 'That is all.'.

Source engine is still good even by todays standards, to say otherwise is just silly. (Yes it is getting a bit dated now though)

In my opinion each episode in the half-life franchise has been good but they have taken far too long to get each one out considering their original promise of more games faster.

Have you even looked at the videos of Portal 2? Im not even gonna explain this one.

L4D2 was a mistake, it should have been a large DLC add-on to the first game though I would have been happy to pay and I think Valve has a free DLC forever thing going on so charging for all the new L4D2 stuff as a new game was the only viable choice. Still a mistake since it turned the first game into a ghost town though.

I think Valve are currently producing a new engine which they'll release with Ep3 because the Source engine is notoriously bad when it comes to snow and ice and it's pretty much the only explanation I can think of as to why it's taking them quiet so long to push the next Half-Life out.
Though keep in mind L4D2 Is a better mistake then most other company's games but it desolated my servers.

OH NO!!! Someone hates something! I am shocked!

Wait!

Someone hates something AND wants to pointlessly share it with the world! I am also shocked!!!

/sarcasm

oh please I see these hate threads every day, just give it a rest who cares? I don't like things but I don't make threads expressing how I feel, because I know there is NO point besides you wanting attention for some reason.

and here i thought the source engine looked great.
It was the best looking engine out there when Half life 2 was released, but as much of a fan as I am, I do think it's starting to look a bit dated now. L4D 2 was one ugly ass game.
excuse me?
Ugly? Compared to what?

Vindictus (2010) is their property, you're argument is invalid for them never making new things.

Gabe also said there will be three surprises in 2011 that none of us have heard of, assumingly one is Half-Life 3. It's very probable that one's gonna be a new IP.

Hey, who doesn't like a game that runs on actual computers, as opposed to something resembling a house. Besides, this person seems like a troll to me, (which is strange on The Escapist) a troll being someone who says something mostly if not completely for reaction.

I like Valve's games, I like their gameplay, y'know, the part of a game that matters? Graphics are a nice addition, but if sacrificing pretty for playability is what has to be done, then I'm all for it. (Before it's said, yes I know there are games out there that are pretty and fun, but the time it takes to work out a new engine would seriously detract from the time they can spend ironing out glitches and other problems with the gameplay)

My shtick of being years behind the times mean I never get annoyed by this.. I just started to play the first Left4Dead and played the HL2 episodes earlier this year. I'm not emotionally invested in anything new being handed to me instantly, or expect anything great in the near future (or ever), so...

Calm down, chill out and enjoy what's there. There's enough.

I like Valve just fine.

i'm not reading thru replies, but i'm sure someone pointed out that the engine is helpful for all of those cheap bastards who like pc games and don't have the cash to update or get a gaming-only pc. it gives you the shooting you want, without killing your pc. which is good for business if you intend to have a long ass support of your games like valve does. if they didn't have a new engine in 20 years, then that'd be a different story, but for now it makes sense.

Newsflash. It wasn't valve that made the concept of portal. Yes the creators were hired by valve but since when does valve actually develope their own games anymore?

They just ride on the sales from steam and keep tweaking and slowing down and applying steam only locks to all their games.

Apparantley they had a whopping 10 people working on portal.

The rest were probably busy rolling around in cash and playing wow (idsoftware syndrome)

Anyways if they made some half-life game it probably wouldn't stand a chance to all the grey generic macho marince crap ther's been since valve gave birth to anything.

They've just been riding on the success of what other people designed for them. (Counter-Strike, Portal) So why bother making something themselves. When it's just a bland, HL1-dumbdowned and shortened, freeman mini-game.
