I guess I must be borderline sociopathic.Danny Ocean said:And I don't care.I have zero faith in humanity...
This is nothing but a tired juvenile revelation that most people come to realise is full of crap.
I can't help but feel that such an accusation as 'people are assholes' or 'I have no faith in humanity' requires such a profound lack of empathy as to border on the sociopathic. More of an incitement upon the speaker than the subject of their ignorant, arrogant bile.
If I punch a guy in the stomach and steal his wallet I wouldn't consider that 'outsmarting him', nor would I consider it 'outsmarting him' if I pick pocketed his wallet, I mean yeah, maybe that makes me superior in one way or another but what he did had nothing to do with intellect or guile, there has to be a better phrase to describe it. =/OmniscientOstrich said:Look who walked away with the free drink.Kurokami said:Really? You consider that 'outsmarting'?OmniscientOstrich said:Welcome to the club? Although, the example that you listed just sounds like you got outsmarted. Yeah, most people are assholes just savor the few that are actually decent/likeable.
Can I hug you, please?Danny Ocean said:And I don't care.I have zero faith in humanity...

It was inconsiderate, rude and far worse than wronging faceless people in an indirect way. As for leading to the misery of millions, some people will always have to suffer. It's not 'just' or 'right' in any way, but it's realistic. I'm not saying in the case of poverty we shouldn't be trying to help, but the people we're helping are often the problem. Dropping all the guns and loving each other unconditionally isn't going to happen, and the fact that it's not going to happen isn't a negative reflection on people in my opinion.CarlMinez said:Yeah I read it and I know, it was terribly terribly unethical. But since he broke such an obvious norm it's probably the result of some mental problem he has.Kurokami said:Did you read the rest of the comment where he dug into the tip jar and used that to pay (not enough) and went off on his marry way?CarlMinez said:People are assholes because we constantly find new ways to destroy ourselves and our environment, not because some guy you met the other day doesn't know how much a large soda costs.
We develop ways to destroy our enemies and protect ourselves, yes. We ruin the environment to better our lives too, that's understandable. At least those two have a greater purpose than wanting a soda.
Now, things we should really be concerned about is what all of humanity does (or rather, problems that most of us in the western world indirectly or directly contributes to) and what is considered politically correct despite leading to the misery of millions.
Well you clicked and answered quite elaborately. Seems you do care. Liar.Danny Ocean said:And I don't care.I have zero faith in humanity...

Why do you care ripped off a fucking fast food corporation? I hope you put the tip money back in the jar...Kopikatsu said:...for many reasons!
It would take forever to go over all of them, so...I'll just give an example of what happened at work the other day. There was a guy who ordered a large soda, so, I gave it to him. Then after drinking part of it, he asks how much it is, despite there being a GIANT menu sign behind the counter, and so I tell him, and he says "Nah, that's too much."
So...he dug through the tip jar for the cash, handed it to me, then left. I was so stunned that I didn't even say anything...and he didn't even give me enough to pay for the thing. (Sales tax...)
Why are people such assholes?
