I'll e-mail news of your plight to my deployed friends. Perhaps they'll be sufficiently moved by this injustice to seek a transfer to the ongoing efforts to dissuade eating and running in the region, but to be honest, we've all seen too many good men- a lot of them kids, really- get sent headfirst into that grinder and never come back out again.
My friend Johnny, from Basic? He got sent to the eating and running efforts right after joining up. We don't talk much anymore, but everyone can see it in his eyes. Something's different. Something's... gone. Maybe we shouldn't have faith in a world that can do that to a person.

If I punch a guy in the stomach and steal his wallet I wouldn't consider that 'outsmarting him', nor would I consider it 'outsmarting him' if I pick pocketed his wallet, I mean yeah, maybe that makes me superior in one way or another but what he did had nothing to do with intellect or guile, there has to be a better phrase to describe it. =/OmniscientOstrich said:

It's not 'just' or 'right' in any way, but it's realistic. I'm not saying in the case of poverty we shouldn't be trying to help, but the people we're helping are often the problem. I laugh at how ironic this thread is.
So many people talking down to the OP, even if he did state a sweeping generalization (which he really didn't, he merely pondered why "people" are assholes, not actually accusing all people). I feel like far too many people were somehow offended.
Most of you didn't take the time to politely explain why you disagree with his point of view. Yes, this idea may be a dead horse to you, but you aren't all people. Some people enjoy discussion about these things.
As for me? I would have to agree with the OP. Everyone can use the "so... 1 incident = all the time. LOL OK BRO" In actuality, there is a large amount of evidence supporting the claim that humanity is pretty much in the shit. The internet is one of the greatest of these supporting pieces. It is full of immature trolls who can act however they want across anonymous communications, all while worrying about a very low percentage of possible repercussions.
Yet here we have an example of someone being an asshat in real life, and when someone decides to contemplate what ramifications one small action could have on our species as a whole, he gets chewed out by a bunch of people who clearly have had enough of debating this topic.
If that is the case, why bother responding/reading it in the first place?
