People are assholes. Sadly, everyone expects us to get over this and move on. Yet we didn't ask to be here, so why should we let other humans ruin our life experience?
Sorry to be so blunt, but...

You're 15, what do you know about people? How many people have you actually met? From how broad a spectrum?

I can't help but feel that such an accusation as 'people are assholes' or 'I have no faith in humanity' require such a profound lack of empathy as to border on the sociopathic. More of an incitement upon the speaker than the subject of their ignorant, arrogant bile.

Have you started driving yet? I feel like that every time I get behind the wheel because no one in my state knows how to drive(we're actually the worst state statistically). Some people are assholes, get used to it.

I have the niggling feeling that the amount of lost faith in humanity on these forums is inversely proportional to the amount of lost virginity. Just a hunch, mind you.
What in the name of all that's good and holy is that?

When your job involves serving the bottom of the barrel, you often interact with the bottom of the barrel

...You do realize you're included in "people" right? Therefor we should have no faith in you? Unless if you're some sort of Alien, Mutant, or super intelligent Octopus.

No apologies needed.
And I don't know many people, but the people I deal with every day don't seem to have common sense, self-control, or a sense of responsibility, and I dealt with nothing but violent idiots when I was in the public school.

I feel that you don't need to be of any certain age to understand that selfishness, judgement, hypocrisy, and violence are all in human nature (not that this is what makes me dislike humans.) A few humans act upon these traits to the extreme, and abuse, bully, rape, murder, rob, etc. others at some point in their lives, and end up hurting a lot of people. Some hurt themselves. Most humans do stupid things that have terrible consequences, and they refuse to take responsibility for what they've done. They also hurt other animals and the Earth around them because of a sense of self-entitlement. That coupled with their overall superiorty complex really gets on my nerves, and doesn't earn them any respect from me.

Note that this is just my opinion, and I'm not trying to inflict my opinions on to you, but you inquired, so I'm sharing.

Then what makes you think you can comment upon the whole of humanity.

It's one thing to recognise that everyone has the potential to be a dick but quite another to say that everyone acts upon it, as the statement "People are assholes" does.

I've been bullied. I later became friends with the bully. I've met all sorts of people from all over the world and all walks of life. I'd only call one an asshole.

I feel that you don't need to be of any certain age to understand that selfishness, judgement, hypocrisy, and violence are all in human nature
You were/are bullied in school, right?

Age is simply the most natural facilitator of experience. Some people have a lot of experience by the time they're 18. Most don't.

That coupled with their overall superiorty complex really gets on my nerves, and doesn't earn them any respect from me.
So do you have any respect for yourself? You are human, after all.

You might be correct in your view that your peers are idiots. To extend that to the whole of humanity, however, is as degrading to my character as it is to yours.

Welcome to the club? Although, the example that you listed just sounds like you got outsmarted. Yeah, most people are assholes just savor the few that are actually decent/likeable.
Is that the blue duck from the Dilbert cartoon?
In that case, one piece of "art" represents ALL of art
See?
One human doesn't represent all of humanity.
At least you know to charge first, then give the item in the future.
But I'm sorry about that guys idiocy. but hey, if that's how you get something free...

The fact that I have a right to type, say, or think whatever I want.

I've never put any thought into that. I dislike being human, but I've never felt any disrespect or respect for myself based on that.

Again, I'm trying to be civil here, and I don't want you to think that I'm being hostile. Not saying that I think that you're being hostile, but I don't want you to think that I don't respect your opinion.

OP, to put it simply, humanity is the most wonderful, complex and perplexing thing in the whole universe and if you have "no faith" in it then you surely have been living with your eyes closed.

Don't know why but this made me remember this video (on the Escapist ages ago), watch it if you haven't already:

3 words for you... The Dallai Llama.

Now a question... Why are people so willing to ignore the plentiful examples of humans not being assholes whenever they feel like being cynical?
Because people are assholes :D

A totally facile and irrelevant statement. You are still in no position to comment upon the whole of humanity based on your unimaginably limited experience of it.

Well perhaps you should be disrespectful to yourself then? Don't want to be a hypocrite after all. What a lovely paradox you are.

Or perhaps you shouldn't? Perhaps you should start having respect for other people and respect for yourself? That, unfortunately, would involve admitting you were wrong. But is that really a big deal?

It sounds like a leap, I know, but trust me on this. If you go around believing the things you are believing, other people will pick up on it, and it will inevitably become real.

Food for thought, I hope. It's also worth challenging yourself after all.

Then maybe it would be better to rephrase it as "people are stupid."
If everyone is stupid, then the nature of the term 'stupid' leads one to conclude that no-one is stupid. You're contradicting yourself with that one simple statement.

Again, I'm trying to be civil here, and I don't want you to think that I'm being hostile. Not saying that I think that you're being hostile, but I don't want you to think that I don't respect your opinion.
Oh don't be so formal about it. I don't really care if you respect my opinion or not, or if you have the right to free speech or not. Those are all just vacuous distractions. Simply discuss the core substance of the matter.

Really, i'm not tired of the phrase, so much as the fact tgat people are surprised. Read a little history, and it becomes clear that asshole-ism is natural to humanity.

And besides, is it wrong to be bad? Maybe the ones with a good conciense are the faulty ones? "nice" is not what got humanity to the top of the food chain. "nice" is stay in your cave. "evil" spreads across the world over thousands of years, building massive hives (cities) over the pre-existng land, either killing or enslaving whatever's in it's path. Yes, mankind are assholes. But they're Running this planet because of it.
