I've heard a lot of good stuff about this film pretty much since it came out at the cinema and i just ordered it from Amazon, should arrive in a few days BUT with how much i've heard about it i'm worried i may have set the bar too high and will end up disappointed.

SO, for those who have seen the film, is it as good as it has been made out to be?

It's fun!
The story is an old one, but the stunning visuals and very detailed world of Pandora breathes new life into it.
It was worth my ticket when I saw it in theaters, and it was worth it when I bought it on Blur-Ray.

It's perfectly good, but don't expect anything further than "Oooh pretty" to amaze you.
Unless you got it on Blu-Ray, then you haven't quite gotten your money's worth, but it's still a perfectly watchable film that you'll enjoy.

Don't worry too much about it, I just spent almost £50 on MW2 because it was the prestige edition and I wanted to play with NVGs.

The problem is the story with avatar, so try and just pretend it's all a series of pretty lights, and blue people.

I kinda liked it.
It was pretty darn long, but pretty darn entertaining too. For the right reasons though, not just "lol this is like the Smurfs".

Probably not the film of the millennium like some people make it out to be, but I still liked what I saw.

The story is not as bad as people make it out to be. Sure, its no Discworld novel, but its not stupid either. Its just...unoriginal. But what stories are truly original? Boy meets girl, drama ensues, the end. Whats good about it is that it is VERY well done, with a world rich in both color and content. It really is a spectacle best viewed in cinemas though, I hope you have a big screen TV, and a decent sound rig.

Its an enjoyable experience I had in the cinema, good enough to warrant more money from me for a Blu-ray Extended edition. Well worth the 17£ I paid for it.

mixed feelings so far, mainly due to the story. one of my friends said they were pretty much retelling Pocahontas.

God have mercy on your soul...

Seriously think of all the other things you could have used that money for. Burning it would probably a better investment then that 3 hours of shit you soon will be watching.

Don't listen to anyone and watch it with an open mind, or other peoples opinions will influence your own.

Regardless, it was very pretty but full of so many cliché's. I was quite tired when I watched it though, so I probably didn't appreciate it as much. I don't think it lived up to the hype.

Gorgeous visuals and sound, and all in all a simple story well told. Unless you need a movie to be horrendously complex to enjoy it, you can't really go wrong here.

I honestly couldn't get through the second half of the movie because of the awkward and ugly designs of the Na'Vi. I didn't like most of the creature designs either and overall I thought it was pretty boring, but whatever.

erm...42 inch TV and surround sound system. the surround sound isn't perfectly set up as the room in my current house is smaller than the one it was originally meant for. i paid £12 on Amazon

Your seriously going to be disappointed, 70% of the appeal of it was the 3D, without that its boring cliche movie for most people.

Eh, then you won't get the full experience, but you'll have fun.
Thanks for the avatar compliment by the way.

No... its not. Its a nice pretty image, but unless you have one of those 3D tvs, you're missing the enitre point to the movie's development and specialness. The story is overdone and cliched and just really boring if you watched movies like Dances with Wolves (sorry, most popular one I know and it was on last night, so I remember it most since it was after the Penguins game).
