some have mentioned i will miss out with no 3D but as i don't like 3D (seen a few 3D films and would have preferred to of watched all of them in 2D) would that make a difference?

The story is not as bad as people make it out to be. Sure, its no Discworld novel, but its not stupid either. Its just...unoriginal. But what stories are truly original? Boy meets girl, drama ensues, the end. Whats good about it is that it is VERY well done, with a world rich in both color and content. It really is a spectacle best viewed in cinemas though, I hope you have a big screen TV, and a decent sound rig.

Its an enjoyable experience I had in the cinema, good enough to warrant more money from me for a Blu-ray Extended edition. Well worth the 17£ I paid for it.
erm...42 inch TV and surround sound system. the surround sound isn't perfectly set up as the room in my current house is smaller than the one it was originally meant for. i paid £12 on Amazon
Same size as my own then, and probably with a better sound system. Not a cinema, but good enough.

wanted to see it at the cinema but didn't have anyone to go with and didn't want to see it enough to go alone. what i have is pretty good so it should be good :)

Ten words I have to say:

Avatar: Mech suits and gunships, what more could you want?

Seriously, I like sci-fi like starship troopers and so I loved avatar for a visually stunning and glorious destruction between aliens and human colonists/marines.. But that's just me..

It's not a waste of money, watch it and have fun.. See what you think..

EDIT: it's one of those movies that at the cinema that in the action scenes I was just, wowed.. It can only be described as when you see/ hear something your mind dreamt up exactly like it is then portrayed in reality and you let out a high pitch squeal..

The story isn't earth shattering or deeply profound, but you know what? It's still good.

It serves the purpose it was supposed to: To take into this gorgeous fantastical world Cameron created and really let you experience it, almost like you were actually there.

And of course the visuals are just damn breath taking.

Great movie. It strangely gets a lot of hate from people (I think people who are against popular things in general, or people who hate 3D). I mean, sure a lot of people just aren't going to like any given movie no matter how popular or acclaimed it is. But a lot of the Avatar haters are so venomous about it.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about this film pretty much since it came out at the cinema and i just ordered it from Amazon, should arrive in a few days BUT with how much i've heard about it i'm worried i may have set the bar too high and will end up disappointed.

SO, for those who have seen the film, is it as good as it has been made out to be?
Lol I'm dumb, I thought the title was "I just ordered MY Avatar" I thought you were going to be saying like "So I just bought the figurine/game/movie/etc. featured in my avatar" or "I just ordered my avatar to do something, what would you order your avatar to do?"

OT: I've never seen the movie Avatar, but I've heard it's really pretty, but the story isn't much of anything and is definitely not original.

It looks really good, but there really isn't anything much besides that. Most of the characters fall flat and while the acting is okay, it doesn't really stand out much. This movie pretty much lives off the world it takes place in.

tbh I wasn't expecting much when I watched it - via DVD, so my bar was set pretty low, overall it got me up to a "meh".

i watched the cinema version
absolutely fantastic visuals are literally its best feature
and that's completely lost on the dvd version (which i also watched in 3D but it still wasn't anywhere near as good as the cinema release)

so on DVD it has to stand on the merits of its story
and it aint pretty
in fact it's completely average, but when the bar was set THIS high for it
peoples expectations will exaggerate how bad they thought it was

I'd say it was a worthy purchase. Very pretty visually, some of the writing was clever but the story isn't too original. I don't see that as a reason to complain though. The movie is fine, I think you'll enjoy it, but don't expect to fall completely in love. (I set my bar pretty low for things overall and was pleasantly surprised when I watched it.)

I really love this film, story isnt the most original but it has a futuristic/sci-fi feel to it, memorable characters, awesome action sequences, spectacular CGI and the music is astonishing.
I went into the cinema when I saw it, pretty average I saw one advert thought it looked cool and I was blown away. I know most people dislike it, probably because it turned out to be quite popular, but its a great film IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO (flame shield)

It's a well-worn story with excellent execution and it's gorgeous to look at.

I'll admit it was very pretty.
But after about 25 minutes most people with brains got bored of the prettiness and saw it for what it really is.

A massive cliché cocktail.

Honestly, I agree with most people who say it's visually stunning. As for the story, it's pochahantus in space.

It's mostly just eye candy, but personally I became bored of it fairly quick.

Other than the visuals, the story, script, acting, and everything else, is all just mediocre.

It's pretty much just Pocahontas with special effects.

It looks amazing in the theatre but reading that you bought it on the DVD it won't visually amaze you. Not worth buying unless you can watch it on a big screen and in 3D.

Hope you enjoy it though =D, the best aspect of Avatar for me was the soldiers. I haven't seen a badass sci-fi army on the big screen in a long time...

Hell I might even watch it again just for them!
