I'm 19 and can't even find a job to apply for around here, am trying to move out of home, have a girlfriend and am an independent film maker.

It's tough on all of us kid, if your Uncles restaurant is available then do it, it's right there in front of you and you said you're desperate for cash, stop being picky...

You're going to eventually have to do things you don't really want to do, that's life, so you should get used to it. I regret not trying to get a crappy fast food job when I was your age, school and adults would always say "it's first priority to study blahblah" and that got me nowhere in the end, personally. I should've just snapped up work I could get while I had more time to do it.
I wouldn't call myself picky for not wanting to work at a resturaunt that is closed for half the year. I would need a steady job.
At least you know that the job is there 7 months of the year, which is more than a lot of people can say given the economy.

Honestly, you're 14, you're not going to be able to find much. Work in the restaurant. It's no big deal if you don't work year round. You don't actually need a job, you want one.
I actually am better off without THAT job. You work 3-5 hour shifts in a hut with no cooling during the blaze of summer, over 1500 people a week, most of which are douche bags, and seemingly endless work. three of my cousins tried working there, and all of them quit after 10 days.

Ughhh. Seriously, just take the job at your uncle's. Stop being so picky. You can always continue looking for employment elsewhere and leave if something better turns up.
Again, The Job won't be avalible for another 3 months, You work long hours in a shack with no cooling during the blazing hot summer of my area, and most people who go there are pricks. I'm better off taking 15 bucks a week for chores than working there. I figure I might as well submit an aplication to every local buisness withen a 10 mile radious and hope for the best.
Again, beggars can't be choosers. But ok, suit yourself.

Jobs generally aren't fun. That's why they are called work.

Yes, but I never saw work defined as hell.

When I was 13 I had a paper route, something to look into. And in relation to the uncle job situation, work for him, and then you got experience, employers want people with experience.

Well, they say that hell is repetition, and that certainly describes work.

Well people are trying to help you, there's a good solution right in front of you. Yeah, it can suck having to work, but if you NEED a job you're willing to take just about anything, people have it far worse than you right now and can't even find a job to even apply for. The reason we're recommending you do it is because it's the best option, at least give it a shot, you know? You can try to defend the decision as much as you want, but it's not getting you any closer to getting what you need.

I can't really offer any other suggestions besides Paperboy.

Preferable movie theaters or retail stores.
I think that is your problem right there, beggars can't be choosers. You really want a job? Fast food. Actually, working at McDonalds isn't that bad. And if it is, you can still be looking for a different job but at least you will be making money while you look.

Filling out an application form doesn't mean you should hear back from them. Fill out a form, wait a week, start calling them twice a week asking about your application: "Hey I applied for a job with you the other week and I haven't heard back so I thought I would just check up on that."

Worked for everyone I know with a part time job.

Ah I remember you, you're the guy who got scammed into buying a shitty laptop, Toshiba if I remember correctly.

Paper route, snow shoveling, waste removal, car washing, babysitting, teaching english, are a few suggestions.

Well, at 14, I was "working" for my local VFW, (my mom knew a nice veteran), and it was a great job. I suppose you could try talking with your parents and seeing if any of their aquaintances have some chores or general work to be done for petty cash, its a nice gig 'til you can get employed legally.
Also, I am now working at my local theater, and its AWESOME!
In 2 more years I definatley reccomend trying out for it!

Whore yourself out to people....it's how I got my first console! :D

In all srsness, word of mouth seems to be the best bet for you. Do you know of any shop keepers/owners or of any family friends that will pay you in cash fro work? Ask your neighbours if they need a hand, mow some gardens, sell 'Lemonade' and paint cute little backwards 'e's......etc also.

As it has been said, unless your like me and live in the backarse of no-where, not many people will hire a 14 year old.

Good on you though!

you can't be picky with your first job. Saying "only retail or movies" severly limits your odds of getting a job.

I know your pain man, and all I can say is good luck and look EVERYWHERE. I turned 16 last month, and I only just now got my first job. I've been looking for work since I was 14.
