It`s a shame you`re only 14 I was going to suggest prostitute. The world always needs more hookers. Anyway, paper route?

Wait until 16 to join the 'Damn i need a job" club. Instead start making friends with managers of local mom and pop shops.

I think Publix hires 14 year olds as baggers.

Might want to give that a shot.

Isn't it illegal to employ 14 year olds...
No, That is the legal age to work.
While 16 is the minimum age for most nonfarm work, minors aged 14 and 15 may work outside of school hours in certain occupations under certain conditions. Minors may, at any age: deliver newspapers; perform in radio, television, movies, or theatrical productions; work for their parents in their solely owned nonfarm businesses (except in mining, manufacturing, or in any other occupation declared hazardous by the Secretary); or gather evergreens and make evergreen wreaths. [http://www.dol.gov/compliance/guide/childlbr.htm]

Nope, its illegal.
It states I can work outside of school hours in certian occupations. My uncle owns a resturaunt that will hire 14 year olds, but I don't want to work for him...
I thought you were desperate? Beggars can't be choosers.

Yeah, But the resturaunt only operates 7 months out of the year, seing as it is outdoors. And I would need a steady job, 12 months around to actually get stuff I want.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I doubt most people would hire a 14 year old even if it is legal but good luck, right now jobs are a bit hard to come by, probably your best bet is fastfood since even in a tough job market no one wants to work there

Since most of the bigger employers will have policies against allowing in younger employees (I'm pretty sure it's more of an issue of work quality than child slavery,) your best bet is to try to find a smaller/independently owned store of some sort to find work at. Little local convenience stores/grocers/flower shops/music stores/get the picture kind of places might have some job opportunities if you can prove yourself dedicated.

Or volunteering for neighborhoodly tasks (i.e. mowing lawn, shovelling snow, raking leaves, etc,) are good options, though I never really got into those at all.

But it very specifically lists what those occupations are, and they are very limited. Get a paper route, make some wreaths or work for your family. There's your options. Sorry, but that's all you have available.

Why don't you just work there for a few months until you find another job?

Which, of course, you won't find. There are tons of adults and college who can't even find jobs.

I'm 19 and can't even find a job to apply for around here, am trying to move out of home, have a girlfriend and am an independent film maker.

It's tough on all of us kid, if your Uncles restaurant is available then do it, it's right there in front of you and you said you're desperate for cash, stop being picky...

You're going to eventually have to do things you don't really want to do, that's life, so you should get used to it. I regret not trying to get a crappy fast food job when I was your age, school and adults would always say "it's first priority to study blahblah" and that got me nowhere in the end, personally. I should've just snapped up work I could get while I had more time to do it.

I wouldn't call myself picky for not wanting to work at a resturaunt that is closed for half the year. I would need a steady job.

Ughhh. Seriously, just take the job at your uncle's. Stop being so picky. You can always continue looking for employment elsewhere and leave if something better turns up.

At least you know that the job is there 7 months of the year, which is more than a lot of people can say given the economy.

Honestly, you're 14, you're not going to be able to find much. Work in the restaurant. It's no big deal if you don't work year round. You don't actually need a job, you want one.

Again, The Job won't be avalible for another 3 months, You work long hours in a shack with no cooling during the blazing hot summer of my area, and most people who go there are pricks. I'm better off taking 15 bucks a week for chores than working there. I figure I might as well submit an aplication to every local buisness withen a 10 mile radious and hope for the best.
