I know this has been done before, but I am in need. I have a half-term holiday coming up and need a new anime to watch.

Required fields are:
-no more than 30 episodes
-no annoying anime chicks
-must have good character design
-no furry stuff or ridiculous fan service.
-as little filler as possible
-preferably a follow-up series that I can watch another time.

I am capable of enjoying:
-action
-mecha (as long as it is done well)
-fantasy (likewise)
-sci-fi
-romance (but only if it acts as a sub-plot)

I know I have exacting standards, but I am open to suggestions of animes outside of these guidelines as well.

Ok, on what you said:
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni,
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai,
Umineko no Naku Koro ni,
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
I'll list more as they come to me.

Even better, forget the anime part grab a single season of Futurama. Basically your entire list in one.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo
Based off the novel, set in the 51th century.
- 24 episodes
- No annoying chicks
- Great character design (since it's based off the novel)
- No furry or fan service
- No filler
- No follow up :(

Payback is a *****.

Well, that rules out just about every anime ever. Still, I'll work with you here and interpret that as "as un-annoying as humanly possible".

  • [li]Ergo Proxy[/li]
[li]Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex[/li]
    [li]Elfen Lied[/li]
    [li]Afro Samurai[/li]
    [li]Spice and Wolf[/li]
[li]Aeon Flux (whether or not you would "count" this an an anime, being as it was originally on MTV of all places, is debatable)[/li]
    [li]FLCL[/li]

Nice one. Apart from 'The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya', which I have already seen, none of these showed up on my normal anime site.

Can you post a link to a site where these might be?

MUSHISHI

No annoying anime girls
beautiful and haunting mythological/scifi/medical drama
No fan service
No filler
based off a series of multi-award winning novels and mangas

Other then that
Big O
Blue Submarine Number 6
Outlaw star
Blue gender
Elfin Lied was alright too
FLCL is awesome but contains several metric tons of fanservice
Evangelion ( I suggest the movie series, not the episodes)
Hellsing OVA (Back when vampires were fucking awesome)

I believe these go against the
"No annoying anime girls"

Also Haruhi could be said to go against the "No filler" if you include the Endless 8 set which positively screams filler.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Cowboy Bebop
Neon Genesis Evangelion

All brilliant, especially Ghost in the Shell.

Well there goes all of my suggestions...
Sorry, I just can't stand them. Stupid little squeaky things with bright pink hair and ridiculous speech impediments.
They tick me off too, but I cant afford to have standards like that if I'm going to continue to watch perverted anime...
