2. youre in a COMPLETELY SEALED room, there are no openings or flaws in the wall (think metre thick walls of gold). you have a table and a mirror, how do you escape? (by the way there is light)
You look in the mirror, see what you saw, take the saw, saw the table in half, place the two halves on the wall, put the two halves together making them whole, exit the room through the hole.

1. What word in the English language is nine letters long, and yet if you remove a letter from the word, one at a time, will remain a true English word at every step?

2. What haunts all men, taunts all men, defeats all men, and yet is beaten everday?

3. What do I have in my pocket?

Turn me once, you may go as you please
turn me again, you will stay 'til you rot
I have no face, but I live or die by the crook of my teeth

Who am I?

A key.

This thing started walking on four legs.
Then it was walking on two.
Then it was walking on three.
Then it died.

What was this thing?

Man. A simple riddle, but a good one.
4 legs - Baby.
2 legs - Adult.
3 legs - Old man with cane.

There is a prison on an island with unclimbable walls, there is only one entrance/exit. The only way to the prison is across a very long bridge, so long it goes over the horizon, this bridge is too tall to leap from. There is no gate on this prison, if the guard at the gate sees someone leave the prison without papers he brings him back, if someone wants to enter without papers, he sends them back. The bridge is so long the gaurd only checks every 10 minutes, as it would take at least an hour to reach the end of the bridge. How did a prisoner successfully escape without papers?

Here's one that I made myself. It was originally intended to be a puzzle poem but ultimately became a straight-up riddle.

To warmth, I am the frozen blight
And I am evil to all good;
I am darkness to the light
And barren waste to grass and wood.

I'm what makes the rich turn poor;
I'm what makes the cup run dry;
I'm the source of every war
And what makes the living die.

Know that I am everywhere,
Oppressive as a tyrant's fist;
Know too that I am nowhere,
For technically I don't exist.

What am I?

The stuff about wars and the rich is making me think of either Time or Greed, although both are probably wrong.
Nope and nope.

Change?

Quite beautifully written, by the way.
Nope and thanks.

is it god or possibly fear
Incorrect on both counts.

The answer is not:
- Time
- Greed
- Change
- God
- Fear

Ok, I have a confusing one :p

There are 100 people in a room and they are told that they are wearing either a red or a blue hat. They can see what colour everyone's hat is except their own. They cannot communicate with each other in any way. In reality they are all wearing red hats (they can see 99 red hats but have no idea of their own colour). Every hour they get an opportunity to say what colour hat they are wearing but they can only say if they are 100% sure. A voice over a speaker in the room says "There is at least 1 red hat in this room". 100 hours later they are sure of the colour of their own hat and all say it is red. Why?

Hint: Imagine the scenario with one person in a red hat, then 2, then 3 etc etc.

This is interesting when you think about the information that the voice gives the people. They all know there is at least 1 red hat (they can all see 99!!) but if there is no voice saying that then they can never know their own colour. :O

A river.
You win this time Batman, but can you guess my second riddle though?
Nope. It makes so little sense I think my brain imploded.
It's quite straightforward if you read carefully.

Answer: the prisoner leaves when the guard isn't looking, then turns back towards the prison. The guard sees him approach, as the prisoner has no papers to enter, the guard sends him back across the bridge to freedom.

But surely the guard would recognise him as a prisoner?

Here are a few from The Hobbit.

What has leaves that nobody sees? Is taller than trees. Up and up it goes and yet never grows.
A Mountain

An eye in a green face, saw an eye in a blue face. "That eye is like to this eye", said the first eye. But in high place, not in low place.
Sun on the daisies

A box without hinges, key, or lid, yet golden treasure inside is hid.
An Egg

Well, i'm not sure but i'll say shit. Not crap... just shit. Follow my logic here
The guy don't want it, even if he produce it.
When you buy something that don't work (a shit) you don't need it because it won't do anything.
A Man that need it (need to collect his shit (the expression)) doesn't know it till it's too late.

So, i'm i right?

What action does a man do on two legs, a dog on three, and a woman while sitting down?
Shake hands, obviously.
shake hands and good job on the discworld reference

Pratchet probably got it from somewhere even older. The Order of Turtles [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Order_of_Turtles#Qualifying_questions].
